  • Express Yourself was pretty much about getting to know the kids you saw every day on TV.
The first generation of Express Yourself (filmed sometime in 2000) first aired from early 2001-September 2002 with the 1st set of shorts including stars from Disney Channel shows and DCOMs such as:
The Jersey (Courtnee Draper, Brianne Prather, Jermaine Williams, Michael Galeota and Theo Greenly), So Weird (Eric Lively, ‪@AlexzJohnsonOfficial‬and Patrick Levis) Even Stevens (‪@christycarlsonromano‬ and ‪@shialabeoufofficial‬ ) Lizzie McGuire (‪@HilaryDuff‬, Lalaine and Adam Lamberg) Famous Jett Jackson (Lee Thompson Young), Kirsten Storms (Zenon) and Shadia Simmons (Quints and Zenon: The Zequel). There was also a parody wave with the Zoog characters from Disney Channel's website.
    Topics included:
    9/11
    Role Models
    Family
    Friends
    Clothes/Fashion
    School
    Music
    Favorite Actors/Actresses
    Girls/Boys
    Sports
    Favorite Holiday
    Hobbies
Alexz Johnson sings a part of her song that's featured in the DCOM "The Other Me"
    Lee Thompson Young Freestyles Rap
After the terrorist attacks of 9/11, Disney filmed multiple "Express Yourself" shorts with their stars and actors/actresses outside of Disney Channel, like Melissa Joan Hart, Beverley Mitchell, ‪@TiaMowrysQuickFix‬& ‪@tameramowryhousleyofficial‬, Frankie Muniz (Miracle in Lane 2), Bryan Cranston, ‪@whoopigoldberg‬, Paula Jai Parker, Kyla Pratt, The Lawrence Brothers and even the former 1st Lady Laura Bush.
Another mini-wave came in Spring 2002 with stars of Lizzie McGuire discussing ways to help in their communities sponsored by the Disney Adventures magazine. (A short in this same vein but featuring the stars of That's So Raven followed in Spring 2003.

Back when my stepdad was alive, on a Saturday like this we’d be in the house watching Disney, fox kids and Cartoon Network while me stepdad made a wholesome breakfast and it may or may not be raining outside and there was always that Saturday buzz in the neighborhood that led up to a vibrant Saturday night, where my younger siblings would rather be playing in the yard and I’d have the tv to myself, and then by dinner everyone comes inside the house and we watched the Disney movie lineup for the night, Zenon, thirteenth year, luck of the Irish, it was always a Disney blockbuster movie

About 20 years ago... this was just normal. It was simple and represented so much of America! It was beautiful and made everyone proud of how the generations of those time were! Love, unity and celebrating our differences! What this was considered normal in it's time... And it was a very great time we all shared.
But now it feels like there this massive surge of people who want us to hate the flag, hate people just for being themselves... They want to force people apart and divide us... Even telling kids they were born wrong... What happened to things? I think we need to remind people of These times of Expression in our country!

People keep saying this but if you listen to everything else in the music besides the prominent reverb drenched woodblock (an iconic feature of “Steal My Sunshine”), it’s not the actual instrumental. It’s likely original music that was composed specifically for these PSAs which was made to mimic that type of sound.
