Had my ST3 16 years now. Bought it new in 2004 and been all over Europe on it with my wife riding pillion.
Nice 👍
Great video and I agree with all your comments. I have had an ST# dry clutch for about 12 years now and it is simply superb. Keep them well serviced and they will go forever. handling is great for a 2004 bike but I did get the spring redone, and racetech valving in the suspension. This bought the back end up to the Ducati specs and improved the handling significantly.
The guy behind you with his turn signal on the whole video is great!
I have come back to riding after a 16 year hiatus onto a 2002 ST4s and to be honest its probably a bit much for me because I am trying to beat Lymphoma but It keeps me alive and it is a lovely piece of kit. I do feel that the seat is just bit to thick and perches you up a bit higher than needs be ( even tho I am 6feet tall) and I am going to have it reshaped and lowered just a bit . In the same vein I have repositioned the front pegs a touch lower and a bit further forward because I found the original position just a bit too cramped to accompany this mod I have added a 1' riser to the bars and it also gives more pull back as well. Your ST3 has a quite different set up that is more flexible and about as high as my bars are now.
You are spot on about the way its hard to swing your leg over the bike without scratching the paniers but I have a ventura rack on mine that I have modified fitted a small top box too that is all I need most of the time so I leave the side cases at home most of the time The ST series is hugely underrated which means that its probably one of the best value ways to get on a Ducati , mine cost me all of 5k including an extra 6mths rego and being the S model it has the Ohlins suspension and a previous owner has added lots of Ducati Performance goodies too
Enjoyed the commentary from USA, GREAT KNOWLEDGE AND A VERY FUNNY MAN
Your Dad in the background was funny as. You can see him thinking "Bloody hell son, finish with all the youtube's B.S, I wanna go for a ride!"
Also, where you were parked up it must be illegal to be such a grump, gorgeous place that.
THIS IS A GREAT BIKE ! I INSTALLED "NOLOGY" COILS AND SPARK PLUG WIRES, AND THERE SPARK PLUGS ! ALSO "CERAKOTED" THE EXHAUST, FROM HEAD TO THE MUFFLER, AND PUT HOLES IN THE TOP OF THE AIR CLEANER COVER, AND DROPPED THREE THEETH ON REAR SPROCKET.LOVE IT EVEN MORE !
I agree with you on all your criticisms on the modifications and damage repairs.
Hi Andy ... great choice I love the ST range I had a 2002 St4 and toured Europe 3 times, pass bagging in the alps , with the claim to little fame of 11 counties in ten days ( Luxembourg and Lichtenstein as the easy targets ) and Geneva to Liverpool a 1000 miles in one pop 17 hours crossing via Eurostar
, so without a doubt a comfy reliable bike 🏍 looking forwards to your new adventures as you have a brilliant knack of reinventing ideas and projects that stops your followers going crazy in this COVID 19 world..... thanks pal
I have a client who rides the exact coloured st3 and has well over 120,000kms on his unopened. Serviced religiously and has barely had an issue. Great bike
Thanks for some real world commentary and your video work is great ! Stop stressing you’re all over it. You briefly mentioned Biggelar Performance (NL) amazing ! I used to have my bike serviced by Jan when in 1979- 80 after fleeing tassie for greener pastures. Wicked workshop easily as interesting as NCR Bologna and boy did they turn out specials !!
Thanks for the memories
Dave
Thanks for your contribution. I enjoyed it very much. I sold my ST 3 ( black, 2006) to a cousin in law 2 years ago. And I really want it back. Light , agile, sounds great, looks right. Despite the constant struggle with the cowling-parts when you need to get them on or off 🤢 And how can anyone in their mind place the battery in that location? Nevertheless I'm going to try to make a trade with him for my BMW GS 1200 2007 which he fancies.
Another great project to witness & explore! Looking forward to your adventures Andy!🇦🇺
Great walk around and no mid roll adds...thanks 👍
Got one last spring. Love it. Put Convertibars on it to make it better for old git.
Superb roads and scenery, and a great bike for them! Many, many happy miles of riding.
I have had a sheep skin cover on my bikes for years now and wouldn't be without it.
@Csab Not a problem as I don't ride 9in the rain, but I have washed them before and they come back nice and fluffy.
Fantastic work great video thanks so much wish you can test a 848 I just don’t know what to buy
Thanks Andy that's a great looking bike (without the additions) and you're right that Tasmania looks absolutely beautiful. Take care and all the best. Stevie
Welcome to the sport touring world I love mine a 2014 Honda CTX 1300
Great bike mate, I have a couple of friends with those.
Oh my goodness HEAVENS ! That countryside looks MAGICAL !!
Cool bike Andy
Look forward to having another run with you shortly.
Gorgeous countryside ... thanks for the vid !
Great looking bike, The wool shed in NSW has rain covers for your sheepskin for $30.00.
Looks absolutely gorgeous mate, found myself looking at them in the classifieds now 😁
That's a good looking machine Mr. Andy! I love the color, and the wet clutch. 😜
Thanks for the video Andy.
Wow Andy nice job !! That's the specific Sanitary Towelette I'd want to go on adventures with.. Love the charcoal/red theme.. and the newer-model headlight.. with the simpler/earlier model engine.. and lack of ABS to [EVER] have to deal with..
Cheers !
Senna colours , gorgeous, looking forward to watching the revamp mate .
Andy- please discuss the st4s vs st3s. which would you choose?
I love these bikes. Looking forward to the work
Always liked the ST3. The seat cover comes into its own after 500klm of riding. Probably not an issue in Tassie though.
Hey Mate , me thinks you were a bit picky on the ST3 , why not a critical revue on the bikes handling , rider ergonomics and why they are not a popular buy !
This bike was in pretty poor shape suspension wise when I purchased it, even worse than what I first thought. It was a pig to ride, now it’s awesome ua-cam.com/video/gU8cbQO1rsU/v-deo.html
funny i have just purchased a st2 my first ducati not a rocket but a fun bike on small roads here in sweden good luck with yours Andy
always good to have something new to fiddle with mate, thanks for the ride out etc. cheers.
Nice bike 👍🏻.
You can't beat a sports tourer for an all round steed.
What is hanging off the handlebars mirror bracket ? A camera I think 🤔
Yes, a 360* camera
@@ANDY5 what brand.
Insta360 ONE X
Great choice Andy.👌
Classy bike got bent over big time by PO. Does it come from factory with the many Ducati badges?
ua-cam.com/video/gU8cbQO1rsU/v-deo.html
Nice new project!
The guy I told you who recently got the ZZR14 loves to decorate his bikes and always did going way back, he had a dayglo 99p sticker you would find on your loaf in the local spar on the ZX12 so we recon a 1.99 sticker will be good for the 14.
I didn't realise the ST3's were air-cooled not being a fan of liquid-cooled bikes though having 2 the 72 waterbucket GT750J and 86 GSXR1100H, I have been recently hankering after a 2003/4 Multistrada, the original, you know the one everybody but me thinks is ugly with box's.
I put the Hypermotard on the road recently with new belts, oil and filter, I forgot how on/off the throttle is, but hey it's fun. (if I already told you this it's the age thing people talk about).
All that aside I'm looking forward to what you will be doing with this bike, it looks the biz, what is it with Dukes.
I'm guessing that was Dutchy lurking about in the background on a Z900RS?
Finally, there is an Aussie company PipeMasters make a 6 into 6 exhaust system for the CBX, would you like to send me a set lol?
Hi Andy, I had a ST4 and an ST3 the 3 was by far a better bike, it's one bike I wish I had not sold.
All those different colour aftermarket parts definitely need toning down.
Watching this because I just bought a 2001 st4.
I hope it is a blue one, because they are the fastest.
Love you and your videos you make,,
Oh you accent is great,,
Ever thought doing narration or voice over?
Nice new wheels Andy although I’m a little concerned about how you’ll get on with it as a daily with an unusually large arse end in peak hour, however I do trust you’re on top of it! Good onya mate!
I like your hard bags. I have a set of those on my s4. Very hard to find in the USA
Oh god, how did you find that English plonker from way back when.
Missing your workshop content.
Wow Andy it reminds me of my '04 Yamaha FJR....... Looks quite similar! Looks good if you're into that sort of thing. I preferred my '81 Yamaha XS1100H,,,, the seat is more than comfy for the long trips, and the seating position is more pleasant also! But that's just me, I guess!
your on the money mate i reckon.
I have this bike! i love it!
Hi Andy, love your laid back vids. Just trying to pull the trigger on either a 2004 st3 or 2000 900ss. Both bikes look great but being in Syders cant even test ride ATM. Would you say now that you have both bikes that the St3 is also a great ride? And for a useless person like me would the maintenance costs on an ST3 be higher than the ss , like 2k for a major service? Having trouble deciding. I plan to use it mainly for weekend rides and used to own a vtr1000. Thanks.
G’day mate, I would suggest that the maintenance costs would be pretty similar for both bikes, maybe marginally higher for the ST3. You should expect to pay a bit north of $1K for belts and shims. Not that I’ve ever paid anymore to do it but I saw a receipt for about $1,500 for this bike from the previous owner that included that. The ST3 is a bigger bike and is a little easier to live with as a regular ride, it behaves better in traffic etc. The 900 is fun and has a certain charisma about it. Mine is immaculate so it’s always a pleasure to ride, but it’s far less practical and quite a bit smaller than the ST3. The ST3 has a higher top speed and gets there pretty well. Two very different bikes but share the same DNA, both a joy to own and to ride.
Gday mate, great video.. can you tell me where you ordered your mirror's and fairings please? I'm loving my ST3 just need to tidy it up some.. cheers
From Ducati mate, your local dealer should be able to help
"Couple of things that piss me off" XD Love these vids!
Too long between episodes. I should Patreon... I have two Japanese sport tourers, first year Yamaha FJ, which is surprisingly good, but no legs, it's a 5 speed. And a Suzuki GS1150EF which is surprisingly disappointing, probably due more to the previous owners and its age and miles, and also a 5 speed. Both of those bikes come from the era of the double nickle speed limit. There's also that damned 2006 BMW K1200S which just refuses to be reliable and trustworthy, and it weighs as much as a house. So I've been considering a Triumph sprint, an Aprilia Futura or a Ducati ST. Your video was timely. ST's are not that plentiful on the USA market, touring here means a motorcycle with reverse and a trailer hitch, oh, and lights, lots of little lights. I guess I need to polish up the FOR SALE sign.
Mate use the cowboy..ount
Nice bike and for a sports tourer, not one I would have thought about getting but it does look good :)
I seriously considered a FJR like yours.
@@ANDY5 FJR is seriously good, mine's gone now, replaced it with a Tracer 900GT but that's passed over to the wife so I'm on the look out for something else...tbh should have kept the FJR :D
I’m considering a sports tourer in the future. Either that or a bandit 1250 or something along those lines.
Nice review.
I picked up a nice bandit , 08 model , longer screen , Ventura bag , sheepskin lol ,
Really love it , just a great bike .
Cheers
@@anthonycowles3153 Nice. Any videos?
@@hachewie no sorry l haven't any videos ,,,yet ,
You will love the bandit if you get one ,,,so nice getting away from the ratrace
Cheers
Slip on the front over painted lines... how’s the boots Andy...? Old hard rubber?
Brand new tyres. After watching the video from the bike behind me I realise that it wasn’t actually a slip. The white lines have been repainted on top of each other many times and they’re quite proud of the road surface. It “tramed” between them.
Have a ST4S. Just curious as to what makes the 3 a better bike? Just asking. Enjoyed the vid. Oh, if your bike Has the 16t front and 38t rear. Lot of owners go to the 43t rear.
Toine’s comments were based around his rather long experience with Ducati engine reliability. There has been some issues with cam and rocker wear and a breakdown of the hard coating on some four valve engines. His words were “ST3 engines are bulletproof”
@@ANDY5 preciate it. Good answer makes sense.
Nice bike Andy. Sort out the bling and you have a tidy bike.
I like my ST4
Dammit man, you've turned me into a Ducati fan.
lol
Andy...glad your back.! ive never heard of a master cylinder with a ? bushing in it.I`d be
flushing the front brakes/cooling system as it looks like its been sitting along time.Cheers.!
By now you should have learnt that all used bikes come with POPS - Previous Owner ProblemS 😉
The " enhancements " apperant to have been gifts from his children, grandchildren and or relatives. Grandpa must ues it no matter how inappropriate or outrageous it mite be , no amount to ribbing will chang that. The way purchasing parts has been difficult of late any amount of money does not help. I needed a front brake master cylinder kit simply not available was forced to replace the entire unit. And all that wear available wear chrome , I hate chrome. But now the front brake works and the front brake is the one I use most of the time.
I’m a grandfather, I hear ya. As for the parts some of them have an expected lead time of around 16 weeks 😕
WTF is your mate doing @ 12:33? Really? Thats the sort of move that can get you into the ditch quickly....Id have to think twice if I'd call this guy up for another ride.
Thanks for the video 👍. Nice one. The 3 and 4s had all the good stuff like better lights and seats👍. I'm happy with mine, got 50k miles on the clock and valves still in spec, just!
I would upgrade the swingarm to a 4s if you can find one cheap and repacking the top suspension bearings might be an idea. They get neglected and run dry. If you get the rear wheel off the ground on blocks can is there any slop in the system? Yours my still be fresh and ok. Would make a good video checking it out though 😉👍
i almost bought one of these, instead I got 09 Multistrada 1100s
Hahaha. Love your example of crap reviews of these bikes by the “panel of experts “. 👍😂
I’ve seen and noticed this garbage too. I write off all Brit reviews because it’s a bunch of tea sippers who can’t ride a bike worth crap and never rev their engines out past half revs in their onboard narratives and yet love to spread on thick the superlatives of how much a beast the engine is, etc, blah blah blah.
I have one to since 1.5 years now. It is a very characterful bike who aint that easy to drive. No easy girl to handle I will say. But hell when she warmed up, she give you maximal pleasure. I have original/option topcase padded for my wife, so two up its working quit well. The problem is that it is no replacement for this, those adv-bikes is not my cup of tea, ugly as hell. That sporttouring line is almost gone these days. I wish Ducati could do a ST line again with 1260 engine, that Supersport is no replacement in my eyes.
The mufflers are “a oval” really?
First comment, nice choice Andy 😊
Thanks Adam
I have one st3 😎
I like the colour. Why do some riders put shit on there bikes. I had a 748 love it. Could not ride it now. Old and fucked now . 👍❤️🏍🔧
Jewellery. That's funny. All sorts of crap... 🤣🤣
Nice bike Andy, bit of a fat arse on her, was looking at one of these recently (st3 duc, not a fat arse). I look forward to hearing more about her before I make my choice 😁
Hey Andy , what is really going on with the elections there? Do you beleive she won again or do you think the voting was rigged? What are your thoughts? Please
Elections where? The only election that I’m aware of is in New Zealand. I live in Australia, it’s an entirely different sovereign country.
@@ANDY5 My mistake, I thought you lived in New Zealand.
No mate, Tasmania
@@ANDY5 I remember your videos where you went to Australia and your bike broke down so I was thinking you must live in New Zealand. Well anyways the q or Patriot world is watching elections everywhere and we are surprised she was reelected. The USA election is just a couple weeks away and the knowing in Canada are praying Trump wins. It really is a mater of life and death I truly beleive.
Okok.. I was looking for a review in case I wanna buy one.. but so far 6 minutes in all I hear is him pissing on others about how trashy of a job they did and how he is a better person about what he's going to do to the bike.. absolutely obnoxious and I don't type comments often but this got to me
Desmotre'tastic!
This is boiling my piss😄😄😄😄
✊👍
well Andy you were poorly advised by your mate although the ST3 is good motorcycle your mate gave you a bumsteer
The 2002/03 ST4S is the best of the lot.
And also you said you got it cheap maybe you should by a bike that has been looked after in the first place
The ST3 is a good bike and anyone that can ride can push them around very well
those ST's are good for 140 to 180kms if maintained correctly just chance the the fork oil ever 20k and it will go.
had 2 ST4S's and ST2 and now have a ST3
got 8 ducs and the ST's are always a food work horse
Toine’s comments were based around his rather long experience with Ducati engine reliability. There has been some issues with cam and rocker wear and a breakdown of the hard coating on some four valve engines. His words were “ST3 engines are bulletproof”
Haha says don’t want an old man bike...... then says I’m putting on hand warmer grips.
News flash Andy you are an old man just except it
😢
Men and Motors... Lol.
Why a motorcycle is a she ? And not a he ?
long ,boring and stroking video
Could I have my 17:22 mins back in my life, mostly spent talking about the bobs and pieces the PO added...I know you didn't have much time with it but would be better spent talking about rider experience..,i.e.riding position, comfort, engine suspension,brakes...things that break, maintenance and long term impressions come later but JEEEZUUS I don't need to see every piece of cheap tchotchke and your thoughts on them,....
