1. 20 grams of carbs a day or lower 2. Do cardio - move body 3. Increase fat intake 4. Do not over eat protein 5. Keep It Simple Stupid - eat simple foods do not go crazy on processed foods 6. Do not get frustrated - this takes time 7. Get some sleep 8. Know when you are in ketosis
I've been doing ketosis diets for 20 years and it is pathetic how these so called experts get it so wrong, Katherine you've obviously done your homework and are right on - on every point! Keep it up, great stuff.
So i dont have a scale at home and i roughly knew i weighted 240 or even more because i love sweets and bread and pasta. So i gave up soda for new years resolution and then i started keto in Feb 16th and I was playing raquet ball for an hour 3 times that week. I saw some slight change in my body and I didnt feel sluggish, i was feeling great! Then, I went to my brothers house on Feb 28th and weighted myself there. Holy molly! I had lost 20 pounds!!! I have NEVER EVER have lost weight in my whole life!!! I was always gaining that it was alarming that I kept going up gradually. I never been so happy in my life! Im still going at it with Keto, I still do not have a scale but I see and feel the changes in my body! I dont crave sweets or bread or pasta because meats and chicken and eggs keep me full all the time. And this is a way of life i can stick to, rather than keeping calorie counts. I love it! Keto has changed my life, im so glad i took the first step, i wish i could of done it sooner.
I have noticed that ppl on keto both here and ppl I know in real life actually have clear glowing skin and eyes and good hair and they also seem generally happier just an observation.
Marina Chow ~ Yes! It is like the fountain of youth. So many not only feeling better but looking better! It's encouraging. I suppose some of it comes down to increased HGH too through Intermittent Fasting. (?) I love keto for me. ♡
Wife has had skin issues all of her life. Within days there was change. 2 weeks later not a trace of any skin issues. It works just dont eat carbs or it wont work. If you get Hungry eat good fats and protein and the hunger will stop.
Found your channel by random scrolling. Turned on Up Next and took computer to bed. Binge-watched many of your videos. You do look slimmer in the face and arms in more recent shows. Congrats!! I lost 73 pounds in 12 months; have kept it off for 11 months--all by following Ketogenic. I am currently 68, 5'4". Went from size 16-18 to size 6-8 YAY. I was fearful I would not be able to keep it off, but that has not been difficult for me. Viewing channels like yours truly has helped me to stay motivated.
Hi, just a quick question for Tennessee Thrifter. I'll be turning 61, November 22, and nice to see someone in my age range doing Keto. I've been rocking back and forth losing one pound and the next day, gaining two pounds and I'm getting worried and discouraged. I've been doing Keto since March 2017 and it's November 1st today and I've lost 34 lbs. Does this seem slow to you?? I haven't been exercising. Just can't seem to fit that into my day. I get pulled in so many directions and I have a bad back, so just can't seem to get the exercise in. I started learning Keto from Dr. Eric Berg and he has lots of videos, but I think I'm getting overloaded with too much information. Do you think that is possible? He sells a lot of supplements, which I can't afford, and I get worried I'm not getting enough vitamins and minerals. He wants all that we eat to be organic, but that's too expensive on my tight budget. I'd just love to hear your opinion if you have time. Thanks!!
i was doing strict keto ( well what info I could find that says this is keto ) and never did turn my strips pink. Lost 6#s in first week then nothing else. after 4 weeks i gave up. someone needs to do a step by step like 6 week simple keto plan. no counting or weighing food & macros...just an easy guide to follow. otherwise us simpletons just struggle & struggle....i am so happy for you young lady!! you are such a darling, keep up the good work!!
Don't give up when the scale stalls! Changes ARE happening on the inside. Usually you will have a big whoosh lost after a stall. Look for Ask Nurse Cindy's UA-cam video with the water balloon demonstration of what is happening.
What about constipation? I just recently started this and lost 5lbs the first week but I'm on day 8 of no bowel movement! That's like crazy to my brain, what can I do? I know I'm not near as hungry at all and have to force myself to eat, which is amazing after all these years. But then I'm getting sick feeling because im not gettimg enough of this and enough of that so I feel like poop, but can't. Ha. How long can your body go w/o a bm?
Google 2014 you need to dial it back a little. Make sure you are getting enough fluids, and fats. Some people tend to go a little crazy with cheese as well, and that can be a problem. Do a detailed food log going forward, and try to work back as well as you can, look for a pattern or a lot of something that could be the problem.
Great tips! Also it is important to note that once you are in Ketosis but may not be losing much weight, to keep an eye on your dietary fat intake which you may need to lower so your body begins to burn STORED body fat rather than just burning the fat you are eating.
I love the organization of your videos. So many of these videos seem to ramble on and include alot of unnecessary info. You do a great job of focusing and staying on point! Thank you for being concise.
I was over 500....i am now 200....keto i like....love watching her👍🙏✌💙shes right in what information she gives🙏✌💎if your not sure, get you a keto cookbook, how i started!!!
Hi, I was in Ketosis, but recently fell off the wagon so just hearing you talk about it helps me with trying to get back in the groove of things. Thanks. Sometimes we know things, but it's good to hear them from someone else with our ears. Please have a great day and night. I love all your fishing videos too.
weight lifting actually burns fat faster than cardio because you need to rebuild the muscles, so thats even better than step 2. a for the food i use for my keto diet, i tend to try to get a 75% fat, 20% protein and 5% carb. but when i buy stuff i buy food with less than 3 grams of carbs per 100 grams, at least as often as possible. ketosis has helped me sleep better, and in 2 months i lost 13lbs of fat. :) as for meals i often eat lots of veggies, some steak and lots of butter and cooking oil, and similar stuff. its great tasting food, and pretty healthy.
Hi Katherine, love your videos. I have another suggestion to add to your Ketosis quick steps. You've heard of the egg fast because your Ketosis knowledge. You're amazingly smart about everything you talk about. But the egg fast is a week of eating eggs of any type. Even eggs Benedict without a bread type base but with a small salmon base instead of the bread or muffin. Just eat your favorite types of eggs for a week. Use cheese as much as you can to break the monotony. Egg fast. Check it out.
Katherine thank you for the Keto diet videos! I appreciate the recipes and been on Keto lifestyle 1 month and 23 days today. I tried your sugar cookie recipe as well and me and my husband loved them!!! 💕😊
Great vid! I have watched all of yours. I have been on Keto now for 50 days. I finally decided to weigh again after 45 days. Down 21 lbs. I keep it simple as you said, I don't measure or weigh the food. I use several of your recipes. Love the roasted broccoli. I feel better, sleep better and also have not had heartburn at all since starting. Before I had it almost everyday. Great vids, great info, great recipes and suggestions. Keep up the great vids. Thanks
Hi, beast326 - Great job!! I just wanted to add... if you get heartburn again, get some Bragg's organic apple cider vinegar, put a couple of tablespoons in about a half a glass of water and drink it. Actually, doing this twice a day will help burn fat too. I always use as little water as possible, hold my nose and toss it back. I don't like just drinking apple cider vinegar. And after, rinse your mouth because apple cider vinegar is hard on your teeth.
Get frozen apple juice. .. it is unsterilized and the apple cider vinegar can activate the good minerals and make the acv taste better.... I put 4 tablespoons of acv in a pitcher of apple juice.
*_Fermented cabbage_* which is easy to make, and excellent to boost your digestion and prevent bloating. - Cut cabbage in fine stripes or shredder with help of machine - maybe you could even manually grate it. Volume to try it out: 1 hand full or 2 of the cabbage in small pieces. Put it in plastic, glass or ceramic container (no metal, it gets sour), _cover_ with water (can be cold or warm if the room is not warm. But NOT hot). Put _tightly fitting_ lid plastic container, let stand on counter for 1 day (unless it is VERY hot and humid in your kitchen then you check it after let's say 12 hours). Tight lid - it has a weird smell - like sauerkraut. I vent larger batches once a day but do so at the window or outside. Naturally on cabbage or kale (on everthing that grows on the ground, in the soil) there are acidophilus bacteria and also the ones that create lacto acid. (that is how they get into milk, from gras that cows eat, and humans detected and used these bacteria for sour milk products and to ferment produce. Cabbage and kale are especially good, they have a lot of the good bacteria on them that can start fermentation easily, but these bacteria are also on vegetables. Because of the large surface (finely cut or shreddered) and the water the _good_ bacteria will start to multiply, but it can't be too cold in the beginning or fermentation will never take over, that's why you keep it on the the counter and out of the fridge for 1 - 3 days. No, it wil not rot. You will not die of food poisoning either. Of course you should not handle raw meat, especially ! chicken or eggs when hey have touched utensils like a knife or cutting board (of the counter top or a dish rag when you wipe the countertop after removing the plastic foil and the meat juices). An then you would use those utensil to cut up the raw cabbage. - you have to wash them thoroughly and it is better to change your rags or hot wasch them often (every few days). Eggs: the outside of the shell ! there are often salmonella bacteria, especially if the hens are kept under big ag conditons. Free range / organic is better regarding salmonella. And then you would cut your cabbage on that board. You inject salmonella into your raw preparation, which is then kept standing at room temperature. The good bacteria might even be able to hinder salmonella to multiply if fermentation sets in quickly, but of course I never tested that. With rational kitchen hygiene (dish rags !, counter tops, if the package touched it) you will be safe.
I have prepared fermented cabbage many times, it works reliably, I live in the moderate climate zone, so it can get warm and hot in summer but nothing like Florida or Texas. With hot AND humid weather, the processes happen much faster (not when you have A/C in your kitchen, then you cool the enviroment down to moderate conditions). If the fermented water cabbage tastes sour you are on the safe side, the good bacteria dominate, the acid is a side product of their metabolism (and other bacteria don't like it), they keep down bad bacteria and even mould (for a short time 1 - 3 days at room temps, 4 in rare cases - when it is cold in the room). The only rare occasions when I got mould (never bad bacteria, think fouling bacteria): Fermentation was in full swing after 2 days and I was cavalier about putting it in the fridge, or left and forgot I still had it on the top of my cabinet. A few times (2 maybe) I needed 2 days to get even small indications of fermentation.Maybe a combination of older kale and room termperatures were low. Nothing happened in the closed container, except that as usual the cabbage gets softer - nothing bad happened either. End of day 2 I tasted a hint of "sour" and then I was good. Once started, fermentation took over, and after 1,5 or 2 days more, the rest of the batch (what I had not yet eaten) went into the frdige. If there are a lot of good bacteria that multiply, the bad ones are kept at bay. That is not only true for a preparation of fermented cabbage, or other fermented foods, but the same happens in your gut.
Digestive problems like not being regular or bloating can be caused by lack of fiber, the change of diet in general (even if you eat healthier, the gut is not used to all the vegies etc). the wrong kind of bacteria in your gut - and _fermented foods_ - like this recipe _can fix that._ - However, it can boost you digestion more than you ask for, some people also react strongly to sauerkraut (they have to run to the toilet). You gut is also not used to kale or cabbage (never mind how healthy they are) so it is a good idea to sneak them in. People may find themselves running for the next toilet after drinking a bottle of sauerkraut drink or eating regular sauerkraut (or that kind of fermented cabbage I talk about here) because they are not YET used to eating it, and they started with a regular portion. Start your first preparation with 1 or 2 hand full of cabbage, and eat a small quantity or drink half or a third of a small ! cup of the fluid for your first test. Normally you drink the fluid only after you have eaten the solid parts, the cabbage must be covered, it keeps better that way. I avoid adding fresh water later. I am sure I have done that on rare occasions but keep it undiluted and covered with fluid, it will keep better that way. Your gut will get used to it, and will gladly accept it then. THAT should also help with bloating. you may eat less fibre than ideal when you eat keto, digesting the fat is also a lot of work for the system, so your gut can do well with some help. If there are a lot of good bacteria that multiply, the bad ones are kept at bay that is not only true for a preparation of fermented cabbage, or other foods - the same happens in your gut. People can have fouling bacteria in their gut (not good) and the gas they pass smells like it. These bacteria also produce side / waste products that are not good for humans. So they can make you feel sluggish, mess with your immune system (the gut is an important part of that), and in the long run (after decades) set you up to be more likely to get cancer of the intestines
The bacteria that cause the fermenation of cabbage, also suppress mould (for a few days even at room temperature). Depending on temperature the raw, finely cut cabbage will become slightly sour and a tiny bit bubbly within 1 day. You feel a fizz on your tongue and maybe you can see bubbles, and there is a hint of sour. Because of the soaking the cabbage becomes softer - which is a nice consistency to eat. You can eat it then already and get the benefits of the good bacteria (acidophilus at that point). If you wait one more day, it gets even even more sour. After that you put it in the fridge. In the early stage = day 1 - 2 at the maximum _after_ fermentation started you have more acidophilus (even better). The acid and the CO2 are a waste product / side product of metabolism of good bacteria. The helpful germs can only tolerate the acidity to a certain degree. * * that is even true for vinegar bacteria, they just can take more acidity than all other bacteria and even mould, before they stop working. So vinegar has disinfecting properties even. That is why pure vinegar (no vinaigrette !, no mixes) can be permanently kept outside the fridge, it will not get mouldy or rot. Other bacteria can stand only so much acidity, and some are more delicate than others. So when the cabbage gets more acidic, the acidophilus bacteria start to die off and the lacto acid bacteria take over, the first are allegedly the best for your gut, but the lacto are still good. And both help to preserve the cabbage. Related processes (in that case lacto acid bacteria) create traditional sauerkraut. NO (or almost no) water is added, the sauerkraut is pressed with plenty of salt to release the juices from the cabbage, that must be enough to keep it covered. - It is made differently (no or almost no water dilutes the cabbage fluid) and it can keep for months outside the fridge (when stored cool). The watery fast version is much easier to make, but it does not keep nearly as long. You can make it in tiny batches (traditional sauerkraut is always prepared in larger quantities, at least ! one whole head of cabbage), you do not need plenty of salt, and you can eat it in the early stage when acidophilus bacteria dominate. If you have leftovers and let it ferment longer it starts tasting more and more like traditional sauerkraut - which was always too sour for me, plus lots of salt. Why rinse it when you lose all the minerals and vitamins in the fluid ? I can and do drink the diluted fluid of "fermented water cabbage" in the end, after I have eaten most of the solid parts, but I did not like to do that with the fluid of traditional sauerkraut. I like "Water" Sauerkraut Lite much better. After it has matured, it can be diluted (if you find the taste too strong) and heated up and then you can add salt, pepper, spices and oil (or fried bacon bits and the grease). All spices that have a strong flavor and are tangy / bitter (they must hold their own against the _sour_ cabbage so to speak) are good: Think powder paprica, Mexican or Asian spices or spice mixes, the traditional German caraway seeds (ground or hacked to release the flavor fast, because ideally you only warm up the cabbage and do not cook as to not kill the good bacteria. One could try a tiny bit of artificial sweetener. Of course also cumin - which is the Asian variety of caraway seeds - is a good fit. Things that spice up Indian or Mexican or in general Asian cuisine are a good fit. Also oils with a strong flavor (virgin oils, linseed oil, which is a little bit bitter, ....) If I make a larger batch (so it is worth my while to use the food processor, the chopped cabbage is then like large crumbs) I eat it raw (as is) in the early stage, later I like to prepare warm cabbage with spices, it is a good warm low carb snack. When it tastes sour (really sour, not just a little bit) it goes from the counter top to the fridge. If fermentation processes took hold, they continue even in the fridge, but they are slowed down. It gets stronger there too - once it had a good start and 1 - 2 days in a warmer environment, but mould is being prevented in the fridge for some days. (I think I have eaten the cabbage first but kept the remaining fluid for 1 week or even up to 10 days in the fridge.) Sour taste, the usual taste, no mould to be seen - you are good. As it gets stronger the other kind of bacteria take over (lacto acid instead of acidophilus). Also good for your gut.
So after 1 - 3 days eat the fermented cabbage and drink the juice (what is not needed to cover rests of cabbage). Be cautious, it is a version of sauerkraut and _some people's gut react strongly_ if they eat it _for the first time_ (they have to run to the toilet). It is not food poisoning, your gut has _not yet adjusted._ Your gut gets used to it, if you eat it more often. In all stages of fermentation (acidophilus or later lacto acid bacteria) it is excellent for the right kind of bacteria in your gut and suppresses the wrong ones. (raw cabbage also has some value, but fermented is even better). Over time that should help with bloating, and it does help with constipation for sure. One hand full is a small quanitity, but it is better to make it fresh every 2 days. - Or you prepare more but than you eat lacto bacteria not acidophilus. Acidophilus do not live that long, it gets too sour for them quickly. The natural healer who wrote a book about restoring your gut, and about the fermented drink from cabbage (or bread) - Rejuvelac - claims that the fancy acidophilus yoghurts do not much for you. The bacterial might be in the sour milk product when lab tested after production. And the industry has to do something to boost that kind of bacteria, because I think the normal bacteria that sour milk, are more robust, tend to be faster and then dominate, so they and not acidiophilus are in the normal sour milk products. Meaning acidophilus products are produced separately and sold at a higher price. But there is distribution, retail, consumers have it in the fridge for a few days. THAT kind of bacteria will have gone down in numbers. Still good to eat, but you do not get the benefit they made you pay for. Better to prepare it at home and have it fresh at all times. (fermented cabbage in the first stage WILL be strong regarding acidophilus. Only do not use fluid from the last batch which contains lacto bacteria to jumpstart your new batch - if your goal is to get a lot of acidophilus. The starter fluid will start fermentation faster, the result is also beneficial - but it will not provide lots of acidophilus (which seem to be the most beneficial). You can use a starter from your last batch, if you go more for the sauerkraut stage or want to heat it up anyway. You do not need a starter, there are enough of the good bacteria on and in the raw cabbage to start fermentation if you create the right enviroment (small pieces, large surface, water, warm enough). You can rinse the outer side, cabbage grows as firmly closed head, so no need to wash the inner layers. Remove outer leaves if very coarse, or wash them. The bacteria will stay on. Just make sure to have enough water to cover the stripes / the shredded cabbage (if you use a kitchen machine). Some pieces will swim up to the top, that is O.K. as long as they are IN the fluid, scrap them from the sides of the bowl it they stick to it - that could result in mould. That is why you should not drink too much of the fluid, you need it to cover the cabbage. I prepare often larger batches (to make a kind of sauerkraut from it, the longer it is in the fridge the more it tastes like it). I air it once a day - no idea if that is necessary, if the bacteria need oxygen - likely not ;) You want to have a tightly fitting lid on, the smell is strange. That does not mean it is rotten, but it is a very "specific" odor, the lid can pop off due to the gases (CO2), so if you have all of a sudden a weird smell in your kitchen, you know where to check. The smell is O.K. if you have a small quantity on your plate and eat it, but do not let the whole batch stink up your place.
You got this Heriberto, you can achieve anything with keto, it's an easy food plan to stick to. All you need to do to start is walk, put on some awesome music and take off. I have a watch with a timer, and at 15 minutes it beeps, I turn around and walk another 15 home. God bless you!
Don't beat yourself up if you can't get keto right. I'm still learning keto food & carb rules myself. As long as your making an effort to be healthier then that's all that matters. Don't give up if you have a bad day! You can change your eating habbits little by little & you will look & feel healthier day by day😊
I’ve been told the pee strips only detect excess ketones when you’re first starting the diet. Once youre fat adapted they won’t show readings because you’re no longer giving out excess ketones.
John M nigga u crazy why people choose to starve to lose pounds first off u gotta be out your mind to just drink water for 3 days and if u do that without passsing our you will fucking binge to the point u will eat what’s in front of u now u back to day one all that for nothing
Greene Monkey not true at all, after about 3 days your hunger goes away. And you are not starving yourself, you are training your body to burn its own fat as fuel.
Grat overview. I'm in the middle of month 2, just began combining keto with intermittent fasting. Down 15 lbs total so far (cheating Christmas to New Year slowed my progress.) I feel healthier overall.
In my first round I lost 14 pounds in a 15 day, the first 3 day zero carb... 3 meals day 4 I add some good carb from veggies, I don't like snacks.... when a plateau occurred I changed the diet a bit 2 or 3 day I add a bit more carb... 20 gm is not for me 25 to 30 is my level
Jheez randomly found this video so did a little scroll thru and you just keep getting prettier and prettier. This is 100% worth a try with the weight loss benefits alone but your skin glows now so huge bonus
I'm already subscribed and didn't need to know how to start keto. I decided to watch this to get in a better mood. Not that I was in a bad mood :) Just can't be anything but happy watching you
1 - very low carbs consumption 2 - exercise 3 - increase fat intake 4 - consume protein between .5 g - .8 g per pound of body weight 5 - keep it simple - don't eat process foods but eat whole foods and vegetables 6 - don't get frustrated 7 - sleep 7-8 hours 8 - knowing when you are in ketosis (buy strips)
D-Base Rox im sorry for what happened to you but I can't take it back. your still a dick. I also have to understand since you say you aren't really smart. youre still learning to "how not to be a dick".😊 you're also trying to make me feel bad for something that happened to you a while ago.
D-Base Rox Keto is not a fad diet, it has actually been around for quite some time. Yes there are tons of other people or resources but I Katherine’s approach and her smile to be honest. She makes it easy to understand and makes you feel like you are watching a friend for advice. (Non stalker way😁) I am sorry for your medical issues I have my own which actually caused my deafness not that it matters. As far as the captions options, thank you I realize that UA-cam has captions but they really suck and are not always available. Thank you for your time and opinions.
@A.D. Yup, after 8-9th day the stench will be less. Make no mistake, your piss, sweat and breath will all stink, some say it's like nail polisher, I don't what that is mine I could only describe as semi-paint. Can't knock it though, lost 22kg with 3 fasts ranging from 8-23 days
You might be a collage kid if you know the KISS acronym. Lol... I do 5 day 18 hour fasting with two meals and 2 24 hour fasting days with one meal while keeping my carbs below 25 - 30. Your cannel has been a great help. Thank you.
Bristol Girl ....preach. Felt great on day 4, hit the gym, and went to do my usual work out. 1. My heart rate skyrocketed with minimal effort, but I pushed thru for the whole hour on the elliptical, going slow as a sloth. 2. Felt super fatigued attempting to so a little resistance training, so quit and started to drive home. 3. Began feeling nauseous during the 15 min drive. 4. Had barely pulled into the drive and put the car in park when the dry heaves started. A few if those and I was full on retching into my jacket. 5. While there was little in my stomach at that point, do not....and I repeat DO NOT puke into a nylon jacket, because it literally just slides across the material and all over your shirt and pants....and car seat. Stick to a moderate walk until you become fat adapted!!
I thought I had already smashed that red button but alas I came over and it was not done. Got that problem fixed now. Great job girl! Keep it up! Congratulations on 50K Woo Hoo!!!!
You are a lovely girl and with a wealth of information. I love your videos and your furry babies :) Been on Keto for two months and this diet is not hard but your tips today will help me even more. I thank you Katherine!
I haven't started any thing yet on food. I'm learning everyday about this life style change. I need help. Will watch more video to get more tips. Thanks!
I've been eating almost 0 carbs and high fat for about a week now. I have had none of the tale-tell signs of ketosis or keto flu. No headaches, no extra energy, no "general good" feeling, no bad breath, no metallic taste, nothing. the only thing that has changed is I have lost 15 pounds in 5 days. So that's good. I don't know if that is because of ketosis or if it is just from dropping water and being low carb in general. I guess if it is just water weight it should stop pretty soon. I guess I'll know in another week.
thanks, but as I feared, my weight loss seems to have stalled. I actually gained 2.5 pounds. And there are still no signs of ketosis. I don't even have the appetite suppression everybody talks about.
Not everyone gets the keto flu if u eat too much protein u get kicked out of ketosis 3 to 6 oz max u need lots of green veggies 7 cups per day so ur body gets the potassium u need. Make as ure u do healthy fat like cocnut oil and apple cider vinegar is good too. Dr. Berg has great videos intermitten fasting works too
I like the Keto Coach meter and strips(The Cheapest Strips! And very Accurate)....There will be a time when you become fully Fat adapted....at that time you will no longer turn Keto Stix purple, but you will be making Blood Ketones. This are superior to AcetoAcetate (Pee-Tones) and this is what feeds your brain and lowers inflammation, and can make improvents to metabolic diseases
Nice synopsis video, Katherine and we got a bonus animal or two in there. Yay! Added intermittent fasting because it makes sense to me and I am pleased with my results. I know for sure those Atkins sweet treats can bloat up a person but you don't eat those... KISS Keep it Simple, Sweetie! Yeah totally agree; people sometimes over complicate Keto. It's really not that hard and except in itty bitty airports most of the time one can find or create Keto friendly choices. Best!
Just started the ketogenic diet with my hubby and came across this video. First of all, I want to adopt you as my daughter, lol! You’re adorable and fun to watch, unlike some other videos I’ve seen. 😊 Secondly, I LOVED seeing your adorable pets (we have a blonde Cocker as well 🐾), so please continue to have them in your videos! 😊👍🏻 Lastly, I learned a lot from this video and look forward to watching the other videos you’ve already done. THANK YOU for making these!! 😀
I’m sorry. I just watched a video in 2023 of you claiming to be at your lowest weight in years. But now I’m watching this video, and let me tell you, you look just fine. You are fine now and you were fine six years ago. I get the feeling you are forever fine. And thank you for all the great recipes, especially the enchilada one.
Jeff Beeks so by now you are probably on day 8. It does get better. I’m on day 14 and what worked for me was daily supplements of magnesium, potassium and fish oil. All three are crucial to have in your diet. You will find that they will ease the discomfort. Hope this helps.
I only weight my daily amount of salt 1ts and my salad - 200g. I do not have to measure meat / fish / eggs as a main meal with vegetable noodles or vegetables rice or mashed califlower. as dessert berries, avocado mixed with cream or almond milk / coconut milk. One meal a day and morning only coffee with butter and coconut milk. I fill in electrolytes like potassium, magnesium and sodium in my daily amount of water together with apple vinegar and ginger.
I have been on keto over two years. intermittent fasting is essential.. I’ve lost 85 pounds and have kept it off..I would also like to mention that at times I increase my carbs and allow myself a small amount of sugar.. when I increase my carbs I have more issues with hormones.. specifically menopause issues .. when I don’t increase my carbs over 20g I don’t have hormonal issues at all..
Most people are saying to eat lean meats and add healthy fats to them (which seems to make sense if you're trying to eat cleaner). Thanks for the information! I'm on day 14 and don't feel like anything is happening, but I have definitely been going through 14 days of sickness as well. At first I just had a cold, but when it started to go away, my sinuses and chest were so congested it was unreal. It's starting to clear up now. I got the test strips and they just say there's a 'few' ketones present, I don't think they're reliable either. I can cook and eat like this from now on, I don't miss sugar that much (and I'm a cook and baker!). Honestly, the first day was so miserable, but by the second day I could feel this wall of energy waiting to be tapped into (and that, in truth, is what keeps me going!). Because I know there's something there that hasn't been utilized yet (the fat stores on my body), and I'm more than willing to get to burning them off. It's a little disheartening, because my progress isn't as quick as some people's...but I've lost 11 pounds in 14 days and that's pretty cool. Now I'm in the phase of narrowing down and counting micros, then I'll add intermittent fasting. I'm trying to take baby steps so I stick with it, like walking up the Washington Monument. You can see what's up there, it's just a long way to get there, but keep your eyes on the goal. Peace y'all! Big love from Texas!
Could you do a video about starting to exercise if you are not a gym rat? Been doing keto since end of Feb 2017 and ready to add exercise. I'm not looking to body build, just tone up and build my endurance.
April Eaton just my 2¢, starting to excersize is much like starting to diet. starting small and building up over time works well for the long run. Things like jumping jacks, push ups, and planks can be done in many variations without any gear and get the blood flowing.
Walking is probably the best start. Unused muscles shrink and require use to stretch out again to be healthy. Start with quarter hour increments and increase as you feel able. 30 to 45 minutes of walking at a moderate pace, daily. Bending is also very good. Throw five coins on the floor and keep doing it until you can pick up each without bending your knees. then try with dry spaghetti, increasing the amount as your back remembers your muscles. This will strengthen your back muscles and in turn pull in your abdomen. Once your back is feeling stronger do the coins again, but now you squat to pick up each one. stand and then squat to get the next. This will tighten the tendons and cartilage in your knees. Lastly, butt-walk across the room. The flexing of each cheek will strength and round out your gluteus maximus i.e your butt. Lay flat on the floor, face up, and flex each cheek alternately for 5 reps each and then together for 5 more. 6 months and you will see and feel a positive difference. Good luck
I liked the way you explained this... not all loud nor trying to sell something to make money... you just plain explained how to do this Btw Love your dog 🐶 thank you
Do you think I can reach ketosis quickly with my daily carb intake being closer to 35-40g? What if also implement 16:8 intermittent fasting? I'm a vegan, so I'm finding it really hard to find things to eat on a Keto diet. I love all veggies, but wow, even a serving of kale has 9g of carbs, which is already nearly half of the daily allowance if trying to stick to only 20g. Avocados, oil, and nuts are staples for sure, but man, I find only 20g carbs is a struggle. A veggie sausage has 7g... even a serving of nuts has 6g. Any other Keto vegans out there? Help!
Mia Kate me too! Just started about a week ago and I'm failing miserably! I've been eating chia pudding because it's all I know that has a good amount of fat and low carbs.. I'll never last like this lol
did you minus the fiber grams? that will give you the net carbs which is what you have to count. eat Shiritaki noodles made of Konjac. it is all fiber and has zero carbs.
g/lb protein should be described as grams per lb of LEAN body weight. If one has 60lbs of body fat, it makes no sense to feed it 30g of protein. In this example, 30g will not kick anyone out of ketosis, not even close, but over eating protein will definitely impact ones serum ketone levels.
It can take me upwards of 4 days and sometimes more to get into ketosis. It makes me not want to quit my keto diet, but sometimes you just have to have some carbs!
I know the same - but I wonder if people that do intermittent fasting train their body to react faster. Would be great (you can indulge yourself occasionally - family BBQ - and then return right away. I tend to have low blood sugar and getting cranky - not this time though, but feeling sluggish.
Dennis Vandam probably eating too much fat to quickly. You have to gradually increase your fat intake. Usually beginners need about 20g~30g of fat per meal with little to no carbs. Eat plenty of vegetables and don't worry about counting the carbs in the vege cause the benefits you get there are very important. Also make sure you get enough protein. For example 1 egg would roughly equate to 5g of fat. One tablespoon of olive oil would be around 14g of fat. So 2 eggs and a tablespoon of olive/coconut oil is about enough fat per meal for a beginner. Loading the rest of the meal up with vegetables and a bit of protein.
Hi, get some Bragg's Organic Apple Cider Vinegar. Put 2 tablespoons of the vinegar in about 4 ounces of water and drink that down. Hold you nose if need be. LOL. I do. It will knock out that indigestion almost instantly. Also, it's good to do the apple cider vinegar twice a day because it also burns fat. Aldi's also sells their own brand of organic apple cider vinegar if you need to save money. I'm in Oklahoma so you may have stores in your area that carry organic apple cider vinegar.
2nd day of keto. Hope I'm doing it correctly. I'm so used to high protein, and I'm not sure how to keep my fats at a higher percentage. Compared to other keto stories, I don't feel lethargic at all and I'm not dying of thirst. For the record, I'm not trying to lose weight or anything, nor do I need to, but I'm having hormonal issues and it's really showing in my skin.
I feel I'm doing most of what you say to do except for the work outs. I've been on keto for over a month and only have lost 3 lbs. I haven't actually checked my numbers as I haven't bought anything to check it yet. Is there any device that will check both glucose and ketones? 🤔 I'm type two diabetic and it would be good if I can check both at the same time😘
I'm pre diabetic and I found I can't eat much protein at all. I might eat 4 to 5 ounces a day, not counting eggs. I struggled hard, doing everything right and then learned that my body loooooves to convert protein into glucose. Most days I eat similar to a fat fast and get great results, finally.
As a Type 2 diabetic, I want to encourage you to continue on Keto. I reversed my T2 diabetes in only 3 months doing Keto. My last two A1c's were 4.5 and 4.6. Numbers that low mean there is no presence of diabetes. I don't know if you're on medication, but the minute I started the Ketogenic diet, I threw that medication away. I trusted all the information I've been learning about Keto and reversing diabetes. Metformin will destroy your kidneys. I keep my sugar intake to almost "none" and very low carbs. Just a little suggestion to a fellow diabetic.
Bruceann Yellowega Just wanted to share that there is a new product, that I just bought, to monitor BS and Ketone! It is called Keto Mojo. The price I payed was 90.00 and that included the meter, 10 lancets, a battery, the pen for the lancets, and 50 test strips for checking ketones! The test strips are much more affordable than the others out there. The ketone strips run about a dollar a strip. The strips to check your BS run about 15.00 for I think 50. I am not diabetic and did not get the strips to monitor BS. Just google “Keto mojo” and look for the website. It came very quickly, and the reviews are good! I am very happy with the product so far. I hope this helps you! Good luck, and stay Strong!
Diabetic can eat lots of protein just not lots of starchs Protein is for energy it’s not becoming Sugar Sugars are from starchs and hi sugar fruits only
1. 20 grams of carbs a day or lower
2. Do cardio - move body
3. Increase fat intake
4. Do not over eat protein
5. Keep It Simple Stupid - eat simple foods do not go crazy on processed foods
6. Do not get frustrated - this takes time
7. Get some sleep
8. Know when you are in ketosis
lala ever you're the Best, thanks
You forgot intermittent fasting.
Thanks

Three day water fast. I was in ketosis on day two, and day three i was ready to go. The health benefits for a three day fast are freaking phenomenal.
Hello! How do you do this?
Bliss Roen Cepeda look up snake diet
But what were your ketone levels after fasting for three days?
Wait till day 5 100% Ketosis
I've been doing ketosis diets for 20 years and it is pathetic how these so called experts get it so wrong, Katherine you've obviously done your homework and are right on - on every point! Keep it up, great stuff.
Ross Hoopingarner wow that’s amazing. Would love to hear your story and tips. Make a vid!!! 😁🙏
What are some of your favorite meals??😊
Gonna follow you a appreciated these get there quick ideas! Blessies!
Ross Hoopingarner thanks
Katherine seems to know her stuff!
Yessenia Garcia GOOD FOR YOU!!! 😊👍🏻. Very encouraging to read your post... thank you for sharing! 😊
Wow...how awesome is that!
Wow!! That is GREAT Yessenia!
so how did u do it? i started keto about 2 days ago and i’m down from 240 to 235
I have noticed that ppl on keto both here and ppl I know in real life actually have clear glowing skin and eyes and good hair and they also seem generally happier just an observation.
Marina Chow ~ Yes! It is like the fountain of youth. So many not only feeling better but looking better!
It's encouraging. I suppose some of it comes down to increased HGH too through Intermittent Fasting. (?)
I love keto for me. ♡
yeahhh.. i've started 5 days ago and yesterday I notices how my skin is changed! it looks so different already ..in a good way 😊
I was thinking about her eyes so much I didn't hear a word she said..lol Very clear color in her eyes indeed.
I wish! I was doing keto successfully yet i had bad acne! :( luck aint just on my side
Thanks!!
Vickie Anderson I guess he didn’t have the time

i was doing strict keto ( well what info I could find that says this is keto ) and never did turn my strips pink.
You will stall on any weight loss journey... The good thing is after it passes you will lose all that weight at once
Mary Bartels the strips are a good tool, but not the next all and end all. Also you can be in ketosis and not turn the strip.
*Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us!*
I just watched this video 4 times and then just decided to take notes! Thank you for keeping it simple!
Great tips!
Also it is important to note that once you are in Ketosis but may not be losing much weight, to keep an eye on your dietary fat intake which you may need to lower so your body begins to burn STORED body fat rather than just burning the fat you are eating.
The cat meowing had me meeelting in cuteness 😍❤️
Me toooooo!!!
I really needed to watch this. My friends in my keto group referred me to your page. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks
+beast326 21 lbs!? That's so awesome!
thank you
Hi, beast326 - Great job!!
Do u eat only three meals per day ? Any fruits at all while y ate in Keto diet?
All spices that have a strong flavor and are tangy / bitter (they must hold their own against the _sour_ cabbage so to speak) are good:
Think powder paprica, Mexican or Asian spices or spice mixes, the traditional German caraway seeds (ground or hacked to release the flavor fast, because ideally you only warm up the cabbage and do not cook as to not kill the good bacteria.
One could try a tiny bit of artificial sweetener. Of course also cumin - which is the Asian variety of caraway seeds - is a good fit. Things that spice up Indian or Mexican or in general Asian cuisine are a good fit. Also oils with a strong flavor (virgin oils, linseed oil, which is a little bit bitter, ....)
If I make a larger batch (so it is worth my while to use the food processor, the chopped cabbage is then like large crumbs) I eat it raw (as is) in the early stage, later I like to prepare warm cabbage with spices, it is a good warm low carb snack.
It is not food poisoning, your gut has _not yet adjusted._
Your gut gets used to it, if you eat it more often.
I air it once a day - no idea if that is necessary, if the bacteria need oxygen - likely not ;)
You want to have a tightly fitting lid on, the smell is strange.
I'm 13 and I know im overweight so I'm gonna start this diet and try to get healthier. I'm like 70 pounds overweight so I have a long road ahead
You can change your eating habbits little by little & you will look & feel healthier day by day😊
hows it going?
@senatra hm You shouldn’t do this diet while you are still growing. Pls. Do more research
@@Cora4418 you need to do more research. Every native american child was in ketosis back in the past.
Thank you so much for getting right to the point of your video. I wish more UA-camrs would follow your example. Very helpful.
I’ve been told the pee strips only detect excess ketones when you’re first starting the diet. Once youre fat adapted they won’t show readings because you’re no longer giving out excess ketones.
Yup
Great video! I love the pets showing up! These were very helpful tips!
Easiest way to get back into ketosis is a 3 day water fast. Then, before your first meal, have a keto tea/coffee - BANG! - ketosis.
John M wow... Thanks for the tip! 😊
I do intermittent fasting and you’re going to be in ketosis after 24 hours fasting from my experience
@`CuntHammer Von LoveJuice clearly you've never done it
Grat overview.
I did a similar video yesterday. The vibe must be in the air! Glad you made it home safely!
I'm already subscribed and didn't need to know how to start keto. I decided to watch this to get in a better mood. Not that I was in a bad mood :) Just can't be anything but happy watching you
Hi
Fasting 24 hours would get you into ketosis fast too
Just getting started , excited to begin
it’s so cute when she say hey y’all 😂
1 - very low carbs consumption
2 - exercise
3 - increase fat intake
4 - consume protein between .5 g - .8 g per pound of body weight
5 - keep it simple - don't eat process foods but eat whole foods and vegetables
6 - don't get frustrated
7 - sleep 7-8 hours
8 - knowing when you are in ketosis (buy strips)
Can you please add Captions so I can see what you're saying. I'm deaf.
D-Base Rox the fact that you said something makes you a total dick tbh lol
D-Base Rox like you didn't even have to say all that. could've just said "UA-cam has a caption setting" and left it at that..period😒
Brenda Nurre you could learn to read a Braille transcript instead
Katherine, Thank you. I enjoy video alot and have learned so much. I purchased the Keto Lifestyle Plan on fb just this morning. Happy to be onboard!
Fasting.
Ketosis achieved in 24 hours.
I can go into ketosis with a 24 hour fast. I've done it a few times actually
4amcripple how long were you out of ketosis
Full fledge ketosis starts at 4-5th day
@A.D. When your breath smell stinks and feels like paint
Great information. By the way Barney the cat and Beau the dog deserve grammy awards for the best co-stars of the video.
Congrats on COMPLETING college. WOW!!! Something to always enjoy.
You might be a collage kid if you know the KISS acronym. Lol... I do 5 day 18 hour fasting with two meals and 2 24 hour fasting days with one meal while keeping my carbs below 25 - 30. Your cannel has been a great help. Thank you.
sounds good, but when your body is first adapting (especially if you've been on the American "standard diet") your workout should not be very intense.
Chick4choice LOVE your post! 😂👍🏻. I just started a few days ago so I’m glad I read that as I was planning to go all out on our new treadmill! 😯
Thank you for a clear and to the point video. I loved your pets interupting. They are so much sweetness and cuteness.
I love how Bo is in every shot!! lol to cute.
4 year's later..but the video is uh so helpful thanx beautiful!!
I'm so excited to start eating this way 😁
Yeah, how’s that working out for ya?
Mariah Glenn your beautiful just the way you are
Such a helpful video. And holy Jesus, you are stunning! Thank you for all the great tips, Katherine!
Thanks!
I really need to try this. I'm down 20 lbs since March from just eating better and working out every day. Time for the next step.
Thank you for the tips, I'm still beginning my keto journey and will keep your advice in mind. Keep up the vids beautiful blue eyes ☺️
Good video for people who want to keto diet. Simple and precise
you are an adorable young woman. keep up the positivity. Have started my keto journey some days back and you have some great content :)
Thank you!
Just came across your video. Thanks, I needed a little reassurance I was going in the right direction, and Yep, I am. Thanks, again..
Ur doggy is super cute!!!!
With chicken and turkeyI just add fats, I usually bake drumsticks, thighs (butter, coconut oil, avocado oil
Well, sounds like you're doing pretty good so far!
thanks, but as I feared, my weight loss seems to have stalled. I actually gained 2.5 pounds. And there are still no signs of ketosis. I don't even have the appetite suppression everybody talks about.
How you doing now?
Not everyone gets the keto flu if u eat too much protein u get kicked out of ketosis 3 to 6 oz max u need lots of green veggies 7 cups per day so ur body gets the potassium u need. Make as ure u do healthy fat like cocnut oil and apple cider vinegar is good too. Dr. Berg has great videos intermitten fasting works too
ignore the scales and measure instead
I like the Keto Coach meter and strips(The Cheapest Strips! And very Accurate)....There will be a time when you become fully Fat adapted....at that time you will no longer turn Keto Stix purple, but you will be making Blood Ketones. This are superior to AcetoAcetate (Pee-Tones) and this is what feeds your brain and lowers inflammation, and can make improvents to metabolic diseases
I love that her pets interrupt the video, lol.
Thanks Katherine. Concise and clear. Be well.
Got lost in your eyes, they are beautiful.
Had to watch the video again to get the info. Thanks..
You are one of the youtubers that inspired me to keep on my keto journey and stsart my own keto cooking channel. Thank you!
Secondly, I LOVED seeing your adorable pets (we have a blonde Cocker as well 🐾), so please continue to have them in your videos! 😊👍🏻
Lastly, I learned a lot from this video and look forward to watching the other videos you’ve already done.
THANK YOU for making these!! 😀
Aww you are too sweet! And so awesome you have a cocker, they are they best! Thank you so much!
"A highly debated-" MEEEHOOOWWWWW! lolol
Melissa Irwin not debated - works
I’m sorry. I just watched a video in 2023 of you claiming to be at your lowest weight in years. But now I’m watching this video, and let me tell you, you look just fine. You are fine now and you were fine six years ago. I get the feeling you are forever fine. And thank you for all the great recipes, especially the enchilada one.
her dog looks like frank in shameless :v
dragosanie omg it totally does! 😂😂
😂 HAHA yesss!
I LOVE HER DOG!!!! (First video I’ve seen, lol).
😊🐶🐾
Dead 💀😂
lmaaoooo my exact thoughts!
Thank you young lady I’m on day five feeling weak not feeling good at all I will hang in there
keep going Jeff!
Jeff Beeks so by now you are probably on day 8. It does get better. I’m on day 14 and what worked for me was daily supplements of magnesium, potassium and fish oil. All three are crucial to have in your diet. You will find that they will ease the discomfort.
Hope this helps.
You look similar to Kate Middleton
No she doesnt
I actually see it omg
👍
Im in my 3rd day of water fasting and hope im in ketosis. My breath don't seem bad. But i do have headaches.
these are amazing tips katherine!! Thank you!!!
no problem Ash
I only weight my daily amount of salt 1ts and my salad - 200g. I do not have to measure meat / fish / eggs as a main meal with vegetable noodles or vegetables rice or mashed califlower. as dessert berries, avocado mixed with cream or almond milk / coconut milk. One meal a day and morning only coffee with butter and coconut milk. I fill in electrolytes like potassium, magnesium and sodium in my daily amount of water together with apple vinegar and ginger.
good advice- and i love your dog and cat- i subscribed ;)
I have been on keto over two years. intermittent fasting is essential.. I’ve lost 85 pounds and have kept it off..I would also like to mention that at times I increase my carbs and allow myself a small amount of sugar.. when I increase my carbs I have more issues with hormones.. specifically menopause issues .. when I don’t increase my carbs over 20g I don’t have hormonal issues at all..
Your cat is talking to you. Love chatty kitties.
I just realized I can put ranch on everything and up the fat. Wow I love keto
Mr with Avacado
You and your animals are just flipping ADORABLE!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️😘🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻
Thanks so much! :)
Love your pets!
I’m a beginner so this was super helpful!!
Superb tips girl :)
I love a lady with a southern accent. Also, nice content.
Start with jumping roap
Dancing is all so exercise too
Bands will work lots faster too
I do a little of each per day
Walks burn far too
Walking is probably the best start. Good luck
I liked the way you explained this... not all loud nor trying to sell something to make money... you just plain explained how to do this
Btw Love your dog 🐶 thank you
Beautiful eyes
Craig Gardner killer eyes
Beautiful EVERYTHING!
I think people on keto get somewhat glazed eyes. Not sure what it is, but it appears to be a regular effect...
I suffer from insomnia, but I'm still going to try the ketogenic diet. Faith!
Do you really mean to eat .5 to.7 grams of protein to every lb of body weight?? I WEIGH 220 lbs. That seems like a lot of protein.
Teresa Burnett lean body mass
Teresa Burnett; It would only be about 1/4lb of protein per day. .5gmx220=110gm, and 1lb is 454gm.
Its 0.5/0 .7 GRAMS per Kilogram of your body weight so 220lb is 100kg so 0.7g x 100 =69 grams of protein
Or it can be 0.36 GRAMS per LB 0.36g × 220lb = 79 grams of protein for your body you need to eat daily
Like Jason Sargent said, it's lean body mass. So if you're 220, but your goal weight is 140, you eat 70-140 (I'm going 1 gram at high end) per day.
Broke my keto last night ... now I am here regretting it..... cause I worked so hard to get in and just had got done fighting the keto FLU 😢
Me Dee : I hope you are back on track ❤ I am in keto flu now and I hate my boyfriend and my life .... today... 😂😂😂😂
avianna brandstrup lol yes back on track!! 👍👍 lol i am starting to feel the flu again!! We can do it!!
Your videos help keep me motivated, thankyou!!
g/lb protein should be described as grams per lb of LEAN body weight.
Awesome video!!! :) Also drink LOTS of water!! This helps flush the ketones out of the body.
Why flush the ketones? They are what you are trying to get for use as energy.
too much water will throw off the electrolytes.
Katherine Michelle thanks for this video. I love your pets, they made it more fun!
i do zero carbs that gets you in keto faster
You are such a doll! Great vid
I'm getting the indigestion and bloating! Why ? It's just happen more often!
My understanding is that carbs affect insulin, which puts on the fat. So it should be kept low, even with vegys.
Vickie Anderson 1 tbsp per 8 to 10 oz is better. The acid can be really harsh on teeth if not diluted enough
Enzymes/ probiotics will both break down what your body can’t do alone and gives u the Good bacteria in your gut too
2nd day of keto.
🤔 I'm type two diabetic and it would be good if I can check both at the same time😘
Bruceann Yellowega ~ I use the FreeStyle Precision Neo Blood Glucose and Ketone monitoring system. By Abbott Diabetes Care

Just wanted to share that there is a new product, that I just bought, to monitor BS and Ketone!
Diabetic can eat lots of protein just not lots of starchs
Protein is for energy it’s not becoming Sugar
Sugars are from starchs and hi sugar fruits only
Your eyes look so clear!!
