    My grandfather Harry Durbin worked this mine right up until it fully closed in 1969

    Nice to see. My paternal grandfather was a shotfirer there and was killed in an accident underground in 1950. I have his Davy lamp as a family heirloom. I grew up in the village and also used to play on the batch. I visited it yesterday for the first time in 40 years and came away with a few lumps of coal which I will use to illustrate a talk which I'm giving to pupils the village primary school in March.
