I too, am still a beginner after painting for more than a year. You're techniques in this video are so simple to understand and do. I will make use of them in my paintings. And how do you draw the line around your cards so straight without using a ruler? Impressive.

Absolutely! This is one of my favorite palettes that I have. It’s ceramic and is easy to clean if you need to, it is not too big, but also not too small. The brand is Meeden and I just got this off of Amazon.com, but you can also go directly to the Meeden Company website. In my opinion they put out the BEST ceramic palettes! Thank you for this tutorial, your cards are beautiful. New subscriber here, and I will be recommending your channel to my best Internet friend. Only one thing to add, you could also paint a simple background (pale blue maybe), then cut out your practice pieces and attach them with foam tape for a beautiful card with dimension. Just lovely! Wonderful, simple techniques that will really come in handy. I love that you are using your own music for your videos. I’m curious about your process for recording. It sounds like an acoustic piano, rather than a digital one that has been interfaced to a recording app. Or maybe it is a digital and you have tweaked the settings a bit? Also, how long does it take you to pull together a video? It just seems like the recording process of a video and also a music file would take forever. At least it does for me. 😮 Anyway, now I’m going through your vids to find the ones that have your original music. 😂 But I love the painting, too!

That means a lot. 🥰 It is just a normal acoustic piano I’m playing on, (I don’t have an electric piano,) and I don’t have fancy recording equipment either, I just have to use my phone, lol! 😅 Someday I’ll do it more professionally, but for now this will have to do. I only have about 5 or 6 songs, but I’m working on a new one right now that will hopefully be done soon. It definitely takes me a few days and a LOT of hours to practice, paint, record, voiceover and edit for my videos each week, but at least it’s something I enjoy doing! 😉 Have a great rest of your day my friend. You have so much control with your brush. Are the bristles soft, medium or firm? I would imagine that would make a difference. Your work looks so perfect. I really like it.
That’s a great question! I would say they are in the medium category. Hard enough to hold their shape, but also soft enough to move easily with the brush strokes. Thanks for watching!

This is really helpful, I’m so pleased Utube showed you to me. I tend to over-complicate my painting which hasn’t worked for me very well. I think I may be able to paint directly without trying to draw first which I think will make the whole process more successful and enjoyable. Maybe I will be able to paint some Xmas cards in this way especially if I also check out your other videos. Thank you for sharing and I have subscribed so that I can see more of your tutorials and hopefully progress a little with my painting🧑🎨🤗
I’m so happy to hear this was helpful to you! 👏 I tend to use drawings or outlines in many of my tutorials because I personally find it easier to paint with, but I offer most of these outlines for a very small price in my Etsy shop to help people cut that step out of the painting process. 🥰 But that being said, I do have several videos that show a more freehanded painting style like this tutorial, just keep an eye out for tutorials that say “Beginner” in the title, and usually those are ones that tend to be a little more simple. I am planning another freehanded Christmas card tutorial that I think you’ll enjoy that though that I will be putting out in just a few weeks, so keep an eye out for that! Absolutely! This is one of my favorite palettes that I have. It’s ceramic and is easy to clean if you need to, it is not too big, but also not too small. The brand is Meeden and I just got this off of Amazon.com, but you can also go directly to the Meeden Company website. In my opinion they put out the BEST ceramic palettes! They also have all different shapes and sizes to suit whatever you might be looking for. 🥰 Here’s some links if you’d like to check it out. Thank you for this tutorial, your cards are beautiful. New subscriber here, and I will be recommending your channel to my best Internet friend. Only one thing to add, you could also paint a simple background (pale blue maybe), then cut out your practice pieces and attach them with foam tape for a beautiful card with dimension. I love that you are using your own music for your videos. I’m curious about your process for recording. It sounds like an acoustic piano, rather than a digital one that has been interfaced to a recording app. Or maybe it is a digital and you have tweaked the settings a bit? Also, how long does it take you to pull together a video? It just seems like the recording process of a video and also a music file would take forever. At least it does for me. 😮
Anyway, now I’m going through your vids to find the ones that have your original music. 😂 But I love the painting, too!

That means a lot. 🥰 It is just a normal acoustic piano I’m playing on, (I don’t have an electric piano,) and I don’t have fancy recording equipment either, I just have to use my phone, lol! 😅 Someday I’ll do it more professionally, but for now this will have to do. I only have about 5 or 6 songs, but I’m working on a new one right now that will hopefully be done soon. It definitely takes me a few days and a LOT of hours to practice, paint, record, voiceover and edit for my videos each week, but at least it’s something I enjoy doing! 😉 Have a great rest of your day my friend. You have so much control with your brush. Are the bristles soft, medium or firm? I would imagine that would make a difference. Your work looks so perfect. I really like it.
That’s a great question! I would say they are in the medium category. Hard enough to hold their shape, but also soft enough to move easily with the brush strokes. Thanks for watching!

This is really helpful, I’m so pleased Utube showed you to me. I tend to over-complicate my painting which hasn’t worked for me very well. I think I may be able to paint directly without trying to draw first which I think will make the whole process more successful and enjoyable. Maybe I will be able to paint some Xmas cards in this way especially if I also check out your other videos. Thank you for sharing and I have subscribed so that I can see more of your tutorials and hopefully progress a little with my painting🧑🎨🤗
I’m so happy to hear this was helpful to you! 👏 I tend to use drawings or outlines in many of my tutorials because I personally find it easier to paint with, but I offer most of these outlines for a very small price in my Etsy shop to help people cut that step out of the painting process. 🥰 But that being said, I do have several videos that show a more freehanded painting style like this tutorial, just keep an eye out for tutorials that say “Beginner” in the title, and usually those are ones that tend to be a little more simple. I am planning another freehanded Christmas card tutorial that I think you’ll enjoy that though that I will be putting out in just a few weeks, so keep an eye out for that!
