If I'm remembering right he wrote this song to help cheer up his brother that was depressed but before they shot the music video he took his own life. If you watch the singer he looks like he's about to cry the whole video.
Some other great Seether songs to react to include (but are not limited to): "Betray & Degrade", "Country Song", "Fine Again", "Save Today", "Let You Down", "Tonight", "Words as Weapons", "Fake It", "Remedy", "Breakdown", "Here and Now", "Nobody Praying For Me" so take your pick lol
I did a whole research paper on this song. this song is about Shaun Morgan's late brother who, sadly, ended up taking his life. The song "pass slowly" is also dedicated to Morgan's late brother as well. there's even a music festival called the "rise above this" music festival that raises suicide awareness and most of the proceeds from the festival goes towards suicide awareness programs. it just goes to show how serious Seether takes issues like this and this is why I love them so much
Goddamn I forgot how fucken amazing this song is. This is why I love watching these reactions cuz it helps me rediscover amazing songs I haven’t heard in a long time
Now, you know him better than me, like way better, was his voice a little higher in this reaction? Maybe it's the acoustics of the car and the lack of a proper mic setup but dude sounded hella nervous (job nervous) doing this video. I dunno, maybe it's just me.
Yes, I hated the original song, but I love this cover. They really made it their own. I especially love how they replace the sax from the original with Shaun’s ripping guitar. Shaun’s song covering his breakup with Amy Lee, Breakdown, is also brilliant. And they are all on Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces.
I think you’ll love their cover on careless whisper it really feels like they took the song and made it their own but any Seether in general would be amazing. Love your videos it always lights my mood thank you
I’m surprised Alex didn’t look into the “trivia” like stuff behind the video like he used too. Near the end you can see the pain on Shauns face and even tears in his eyes. I’ve been a Seether fan since their first album and have loved and listened to them ever since, and everytime I see this video it crushes me a little because I remember when the article came out that talked about it.
Hey @Alexhefner you listened to our request thank you so much dude, really love your vids and see the and breaking benjamin and Chevelle are my favorite bands for sure!! ! You rock bro
I listen to this with Chester in mind. The behind the scenes from this video shoot only features about 20 seconds of Shaun, the rest is the production team and the rest of the band whilst Shaun was crying. Truest pain you can see in a music video about someone you lost, it wasn't some partner, it was his actual brother, I think the photograph is of Shaun's real family.
I wonder how I've never heard this song, I've listened to a ton of Seether and somehow missed it. Oh well now I've got a new really great song to put on repeat. I'd recommend Breakdown, The Gift, or Fine Again (if you haven't already I am drawing a blank on which songs you've heard)
Seether used to do a Rise Above Fest in Bangor Maine. It was usually an awesome one or two day charity concert festival to raise awareness for suicide. I'm quite sad that they havent done it in a few years.

Don’t hate on the playlist name too much as there are plenty of songs similar to "Rise Above This" that encourage fighting through the pain, but the other songs are there to face my demons.
I just recently subscribed to your channel and I am so glad that I did. On November 30, 2018 my wife, who is also my soulmate, passed away. Four days after my birthday. Today makes 25 days till the 1 year anniversary of her death and seeing this video really hit home. January of this year I made plans to end my life. I couldn't see myself living in this world without my soulmate. What stopped me from taking my own life was seeing the people around me, who I now call my extended family, laughing and joking around me and I had suddenly gotten a flash of this scene in my head where they were not laughing but crying and hurting because I was no longer around. I totally agree with you...we may end the pain we are feeling but all it did was transfer itself to those around us. Although I miss my wife so dearly I loom at those around me and know that it isn't my time to leave yet. I still have some unfinished business. Could I please suggest 2 songs for you to react to? The first one being "Imperfection" by Evanescence. This was kind of like a life theme song for both my wife and I. We both knew we weren't perfect but that's what we loved about each other. The second song is "Until Eternity" by Blackbriar. This song I happened to find after my wife passed away. It is basically a song that emphasises our belief that we were each other's soulmate. I just got around to watching you react to this song. I got the same message you did from this song when I first heard it. My cousin committed suicide in 2005. My Aunt (my mom's twin sister) never recovered from that. He also had an infant daughter. She grew up not knowing him. She looks exactly like him. My family has never been the same. I wish he could have understood that his pain was not forever, that it would get better. Thank you for sharing your take on the song.
Have you heard of Live- Lightning Crashes? If not, you should react to it. It's a really good song, although, I'm not sure if you'd like it become it's very sad.
Hey, someone left a request for Amaranth after Alex's last video. He got my like, and YOU got my like also. I just want to recommend some more female fronted bands, Ledger, We Are The In Crowd (Every. Single. Song. Is fantastic they have 23). Orianthi, she also plays lead guitar in addition to lead vocals, and she's good enough that she's traded licks with guitar legend Steve Vai. :-) 😅
It took them 14-16 hours to shoot this because Shaun couldn't handle it. That's why in some scenes you can see his eyes are literally swollen from crying. 🖤 Love this song.
Seether - Remedy, fine again, fake it, careless whisper, tonight, same damn life, words as weapons, nobody praying for me, etc. so many good seether songs
Seether is a band I love listening to whenever I'm going through anything emotional. Their lyricism, especially in earlier work, really speak to me when I need it.

Hey Alex, it's awesome that you're using your lunch break to get a new video to all of us. I know they say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but still! Lunch does come in there somewhere too. Hope you had time to get st least a sandwich or something. I hope you can get in some ❤HALESTORM❤ soon!! Alex, I wanted to say thank you for your videos. They really help, especially with what I have been going through the past few days. Finding out my mother died in 2016 and no one told me. I really appreciate all the videos you react to and the messages you convey.
Thank you dude for this video. I have loved Seether for years. When I first saw this video and heard the song I had been dealing with horrible toughts evert since I was 10 years old, because of bullying and being overweight. I have not listend to this song now for some time but you reminded me of the powerfull message it holds. Losing my girlfriend and mother in law within the same 24 hours and how far I have fallen back in depression. Thank you again for this video, it helped to kick my a** back in to workingin on my self again
I've known and loved this song for years. Watched the video, broke down crying. The wind/falling being mirrored in the family is brilliant. Anyone who's lost someone to suicide will relate.
This is why I like your channel. You connect with your viewers. I am going through a few difficulties right now, and your channel is a break from all of it. Thank you!
Dude! You have to react to Giving In By Adema! It's a band who's singer is Jonathan Davis (singer of KoRn) half brother, and his name is Mark Chavez, you will not regret it AT ALL
Alex....thank you i don't know how much longer i could have made it if i hadn't heard this song and i never would have heard it if not for you so thank you
This is one of my all-time favorite songs, and every single time it comes on, I turn the radio up full blast. I don't even care who's in the car w/ me. I've known someone who committed suicide and it was devastating. Thank you, Shaun, for putting your heart out there and giving us one of the best songs, EVER!!!
My brother killed himself in 2014 and he listened to this song a lot when I was younger and I never understood why he liked this song but after his passing I listened to it and this song helped me a lot after his passing. Thank you for reacting to this song maybe people that have gone through this will hear this song and help them as well. Love your reactions! 💜
Their version of Careless Whisper is great It'd also be awesome if you'd check out some more 80's songs, for example Kickstart My Heart by Motley Crue or Girls Just Wanna Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper
I love when you post videos like this Alex, bringing awareness to suicidal tendencies and given those of us who have struggled with it, the strength to carry on by simply reacting to powerful songs and then giving your speech afterward. Thanks for being the dope ass person you are, dude.

When song came out, saw video, I sobbed. My son was having suicidal thoughts, almost carried through. He had a loaded gun, police talked with him and he went inpatient. He has come far, stillmstruggles, but he knows our family loves and supports him. The lyrics, video and message is deep. Feel for Shaun's loss.
Thank you Alex for the message.. I'm going through some really dark stage of my life and truly can't describe about it. I felt like the song was talking to me. Thank you.
Hey Alex, this song is very close to my heart, i've always loved Seether and Shaun's (Lead Singer) life story which hits home for me in many ways. This song in particular is about Shaun's brother who committed suicide, again which hits home with me. I've both known people who have attempted suicide and those who unfortunately succeeded. I, myself have suffered with those thoughts and still deal with depression to this day, it doesn't just go away. But its songs like this and the stories behind that help people like me to see a better day. Keep doing what you're doing bro, much respect.
I hadn't heard this song before, and noticed in the comments that it was about a band member's brother. The video and your insightful comments really hit home, and my thoughts go out to him. You're no Keanu, (who is?), but you are a good guy Alex! Keep on posting my man.
Great song, simple but deep. Thanks for commenting on it, you’re always on point. And thanks for being a great human being, Alex. Have A Dope Ass Day, brother!!
This is about Shaun's brother Eugene who committed suicide.

Makes it even more meaningful ;)
Beat me to it
If I'm remembering right he wrote this song to help cheer up his brother that was depressed but before they shot the music video he took his own life. If you watch the singer he looks like he's about to cry the whole video.
Seether- Careless Whisper!!! It's an amazing cover
Oh to be a fly on the wall when someone said.. "Hey, you know what we should do? Let's cover WHAM!"
Their Black Honey Cover is so much better.

As for seether please listen to breakdown!
Love the tie Alex. Glad to see you sportin' the Scales of Justice while bringing us another amazing reaction video. Best of luck!
Great to see you reacting to this. This song has saved my life so many times over so it means so so much to me
