The lyric “Time won’t fly it’s like I’m paralyzed by it” from all too well is basically this song 😭 I’ve had this on repeat.
Some people even connect the song with WandaVision for the part where it says “did you ever hear about the girl who got frozen, time went on for everybody else, she won’t know it, she’s still 23, inside her FANTASY”

I am very late watching this but still enjoyed your reaction :) I think she is depicting a moment of such unexpected, terrible loss, when you are so shocked and crushed, you just stay in that moment in your mind. "Dust collected on my pinned up hair" is obviously figurative, but it paints a great picture: like she's been sitting in that corner for so long that a layer of dust accumulated on her hair. She loved this person so much and when he told her he found someone else she couldn't "bear witness" to this and shut herself off in a delusion afterward, still stuck in that moment when he left her and still cherishing the hope that one day he may realize that he got it wrong and come back to her.

@@ohef17 Totally. And relatable to many, I'm sure. Although it's no longer autobiographical, like her earlier songs and albums. She explained in one interview that Folklore was an experiment of sorts. She always used to write songs about her own life, but this time it was mostly based on fictional characters, not her own life (hence the album title). Even though some songs on the album can be connected to her life, they are not coming straight out of a "diary" like before.
This is one of her best songs and that is saying a lot.

Im sorry im not done. The way she says "you left me, No!" like she is not accepting it at that mome t and then finishing / changing the sentance to " you left me no choice but to stay here forever" like i was just back there in that moment and now all this time has passed and im still there. and hair pin drop vs pinned up hair. this is actually este’s pov of no body no crime, that’s why she’s stuck right there were HE LEFT HER, and she’s stuck haunting a corner, she’s unaware about the new wife and everything. It’s actually really sad when you think about it, still can be interpreted as someone stuck in the moment a relationship ended like u said. Awesome reaction!!
