    My wife left me in 2013 after 41 years. I'm still stuck (emotionally) in that apartment, listening to Red on repeat at the time. Taylor recently said she was a broken person when she wrote that album. Red is mostly a sustained cry of anguish. It's what I needed back then. Folklore and Evermore are exactly what I need now.

      Wow, that's really heavy but thank you for sharing! I hope to be present for whatever my future has for me. I wonder if something about my life right now is the thing I will cling to in the future.

    The two bonus tracks are kind of like the two choices people have, with this song, it’s the choice where people stay and then the other track, “it’s time to go” is pretty self explanatory

      So she wanted evermore to end with those two choices people have in the end

    The 'forever' makes sense if ever you've been left by somebody who took your heart with them and with it the ability to love someone else.

    "But if you ever think you got it wrong, I'm right where you left me". My feelings exactly. I'm content to wait forever if I have to. She's so worth it.

      haha dayyym. I know what you mean. Tough spot to be but if you're ok being there and maybe waiting forever and not getting hopes up too much either way, maybe it isn't too difficult or unhealthy of a thing. Hard to say.

    Really like this story. Love the imagery. She fills it in bit by bit until the end, she tells the whole story. She could have said that she was crying but instead she could feel the mascara run... meaning you can visualize that, a woman can feel it, and it’s just amazing the picture. The white cloth, the hair pinned up. She’s dressed up at a fancy restaurant. Dim light, a romantic place where everything felt just right, but he’s there to break up. I don’t usually like this country feel, but I love the storytelling. I dig this one.
    She has a choice, but sometimes people get stuck. In a depression. Even if you want to move on, sometimes people get stuck regardless. Aaron and Bryce are twins. Aaron suffers from depression. Although Taylor wrote this, I can’t help thinking about someone stuck in a depression and can’t climb out of it.
    Evermore is about relationships breaking apart. Folklore is about relationships communicating, conflict resolution, apologizing. That’s how these two albums are sister albums.

      Country is a funny genre. I get tired of how often people say "I like everything but country" yet it's so obvious they are missing the other side of country. Sure, some of it is very mainstream beers/girls/trucks but the original elements were very poetic and masterful in the art of storytelling. Some of these elements come through nicely in some of Taylor's work. This song is probably a solid example.
      I agree with the lyrical choices. There are many ways to explain what is happening but the angle in which you approach the visual is going to determine a lot of the context and how it hits the listener. I appreciated the way this song opened a lot!

      @@JSteezy I agree with country and I think this is one of the reasons that Taylor is so impactful. She has taken the storytelling aspect that is so dominant in Country music and has applied that to pop/indie/folk music and has almost made a completely different genre of it. I canot think of another pop artist who paints a picture the way she can, and that is her country roots. Its really spectacular.

    I like what you said there : of being stuck at a certain point in time. I think that somewhere in our lifetime, we have been there or have yet to be there. And there's probably a lot of music that depict that scenario, but since you've mentioned being frozen specifically in glory days of high school, you might want to give a listen to Kelsea Ballerini's song 'High School' where it dives into that kind of story.

    • @JSteezy

      I might check that out! And yes, I think you can be stuck in the past either because you're obessing over a highlight or something traumatic. Many reasons one may cling to history.

    I love this one with it's little country-twang vibe. I feel this one and the other bonus track (it's time to go) kind of work as a pair. They're too sides of the same coin.
    The restaurant as a metaphor really works! She's stuck and she knows it but can't get out. She even makes the appeal to us ("help I'm still at the restaurant") but she's emotionally unable to move through it, for whatever reason.
    This is a good example of telling a whole story in a short song, write a musical Taylor

    I think that she means that a part of her is always going to be in that moment. That naive, 23 year old self. It's also as if she isn't really talking about her whole self. Just the part that got frozen and into a ghost or like a museum artifact that is unaware that life or even the ex's life would have gone on after the time.
    I think she knows that he'll never think he got it wrong.

    I think she has no choice
    Because there was no real closure and that’s what the folklore-evermore are about closure of past love to really flourish the current love she’s found right now it’s like you’re just reading one random chapter of an epic two part story

    • @JSteezy

      I think you always have a choice but when it comes to wanting something, it isn't just as simple as deciding you don't want it just because you know it isn't healthy for you.
      Choice is actually a strangely subjective thing.

    • @solgorlero2683
      @solgorlero2683 2 роки тому +1

      @@JSteezy emotion is not really a choice though. Of course the "healthy" thing to do when facing trauma, is to work though it and eventually move on, but what this song is capturing is those moments that make you feel like you can't move on, like you will be stuck there forever. And in those moments we don't feel like we have a choice to feel different, it's not so black and white. I don't think it's a thing of agreeing or not, the song is simply depicting an emotion, something that people go through, of course it's a destructive/tragic place to be, but sometimes humans get to that point and emotions are not so easy to control.

    • @JSteezy
      @JSteezy  2 роки тому +1

      @@solgorlero2683 I agree. I don't think my comment implies that I didn't. When you are upset or sad, you can't exactly choose to be happy right in that moment but you might see a logical path of decisions that you believe may lead to you feeling happy, and therefore choose to be happy by choosing that path. Emotions on their own are definitely not a choice, but the way you respond to them definitely can or are and you can make these decisions based on desired emotions you long to have or impulsive ones you have in the moment. Even then, it might be hard to say which you are doing.
      Emotions will always be wonderfully difficult to simplify in such a way but that's partly why we are human, yeah?
