Bruce Porter and Greg discuss the image of Facsimile 1 of the Book of Abraham on a wall at Karnak, Egypt in the Temple of Opet.
The engraved image has Osiris on a Lion Couch bed, with his feet APART and his Hand in front of his mouth. What is its meaning? How might this fit in with the Royal Procession and our own temple experiences? And what context does this give to the Book of Abraham and the other facsimiles?

I don’t know if anyone watched the coronation of King Charles or episodes of The Crown regarding Elizabeth’s coronation, but it is strikingly similar to the initiatory. They enter a curtained area, dressed in new clothing, many monarchs receive a new name by which they are to reign as, and anointed as a king/queen with oil by a priest. Similar things go back through all sorts of monarchies, emperors, and even pharaohs. It is man’s lesser copycat form of the sacred and divine.

The same families who created Christianity & the R C church also created the m0narchy. They were deservedly ousted from Egypt by the Persians long ago. They migrated up thru Greece then Rome then GB & Germany…ruthlessly building empires along the way. Today they own/control a majority of the planet. Ever notice the handful of countries the U S always seems to have problems with are the ones the Rothschllds don’t own banks in? Yeah, the rev war was an intentionally created illusion of division too.

I have recently been made aware of a controversy over the image representing the hand being held up by Joseph in our Book of Abraham. Some say it is not a hand but feathers. Therefore the entire image is false. This example from an Egyptian tomb shows that It is indeed a hand not feathers. To bad and shame on the enemies of truth, you lose again! Fools believe the tails of fools; but the wise man seeks after the truth.

It would make sense that Ham trained his posterity in the religion of Noah, who was alive while Abraham was alive. Abraham was 56 when Noah died. Them was still alive. It makes sense that Ham would also be alive. Our endowment gives us keys to become kings and queens, the sons and daughters of God. The keys are the tokens we received, going through the veil is our passing to immortality. This is fascinating to say the least.

I'm commenting here, because I'm not able to comment in the main thread. I'm not commenting directly on your post. I think Greg has me blocked or something. I can't comment at all. But I truly don't understand what Greg is saying. And I'm not going to listen to his comments for 40 minutes. Is he claiming to have found something that the church leadership itself is unaware of? Highly unlikely.

@@joncharlotteschoenI don’t think he is really saying anything, they are simply discussing parallels between Egyptian theology and our theology. They can prove nothing, but then neither can the Church so it is all speculation and conjecture, but this is what keeps it interesting. So many mysteries, and so little knowledge, but we all have faith in the unknown. Without faith there is no religion, no God.

Great comment about the need to develop CHARACTER to obtain exaltation. That is why we follow Jesus. And the insight that temple work is a series of ascension ceremonies reminding us we have potential to be heirs of our Celestial Father, or in Spanish, our Padre Celestial. (It is kind of sad that His common title in English - Heavenly Father - somewhat diminishes who and where He really is. Thankfully in other languages like Spanish we can call Him by His proper designation, reminding us of our divine heritage.)

Abraham was substituted in for Osiris in funerary texts in Jewish settlements in Egypt. The Lion Couch scene is also a spell of protection over the tomb, Abraham inverts that in a poetic and almost chiasmus style to be a blessing from the tomb, death and hell. Abraham used like we use Adam. Based on an event from Abraham, it appropriated New Kingdom Egyptian characters to be a temple blessing.

      IMO:
The point of the "Books of Breathing" was to substitute yourself in for Osiris. The image is always Osiris but individuals would use their own names in the text. The fact that somebody made a "Books of Breathings" for Abraham isn't much evidence of anything other than they wanted Abraham to have one probably because they assumed he was buried without it. In this context it's more like doing baptism for the dead. The lion couch scene I'm familiar with, with Abrahams name, is in a Greek spell book. This indicates it came much later.
The "Books of Breathing" Joseph Smith purchased were created for a man name "Hor". Hor was probably the mummy that was found with the book and possibly purchased by Joseph Smith as well. He was probably wealthy but certainly not royalty.

What do you think of the idea that even though the tabernacle and temple were used in times past that once Jesus was born, taught, died and was resurrected that there was no more need for temples due to he wanted to bring us to the Father directly?

    • @777johbro
      @777johbro 2 місяці тому +3

I think whatever the Lord wants is what we do. Latter-day Saints believe the God hasn’t stopped revealing his will through prophets. And so if the Lord wants us to practice a different form of temple worship, we do. What you’re suggesting is one interpretation of scriptures put forth by Protestant reformers in the 1500s. And if we believed in sola scriptura we might engage in a scriptural discussion about whether that’s the right interpretation, or whether the Catholics and Orthodox have a better view, or someone else. But when you have a living spokesman relaying messages from the lord, you take what God says himself instead of the ideas of someone who is forming opinions about what god said in the past.

@@MommaCrissa O don't know of anywhere that Jesus says there are no more need of temples. In fact there are prophecies of future temples (the 3rd temple). @@joeshawcroft7121 Yes, actually you're right. I didn't complete my thought it looks like. Absolutely there was a need for temples, and also a temple in end times. But, in the Book of a Mormon there is not an instance of "temple worship" as we have now. They gathered at the temple to be taught. All of them too, there weren't people excluded. Look through it yourself and please find anything different. I'll be glad to read it. I am 100 percent for believing in Gospel truths.

@@777johbro yes, but do you truly understand what a prophet is? I'm not trying to be patronizing. We are all meant to be prophets, that is what God hoped for us. If we look around in the church and in the world that seems ridiculous, but is it not what is asked of us in the scriptures and what Joseph Smith taught? Understanding what the precepts of men are verses what a prophet is and teaches are crucial.

You're seeing the same thing because they are both allegories for the same thing. It's something everyone can achieve and if it has NOTHING to do with its literal interpretation. They're communicating divine truth through symbols and art.. this is the great mystery tradition which used symbols and allegories in the form of myth and scripture. Jesus and the redeemed Pharaoh are describing the same thing.. there's only one way to the divine, always was and always will be and that's by going inside yourself.. you're looking at the outward symbols and giving little to no attention to the symbolic meaning.. on every Egyptian temple is the admonition "man, know thyself" and it was the job of the priest to explain to the initiate what stories truly mean. In the stories YOU are Osiris YOU are Jesus, YOU are Odin, mithras, attis, dionysius, persephone, Innana or the Aztec hero twins. In every culture throughout time you'll find the mysteries if only you have eyes to see and ears to hear

@@redfightblue the video explains it. The Book of Mormon clearly states in Jacob that ALL the holy prophets of the Bible testified of Christ. That goes all the way back to Adam.
Jesus Christ's sacrifice was planned before Greeks even existed in the flesh (Christ is their word for annointed). Before the Earth was even created. There were even plans to have a Christ in this universe before any spirit bodies were born. Which is why Jehovah was the first to receive a spirit body.

@@noskalborg723 In your first comment you used the word "Christianity" and in your second comment you said "testify of Christ". These are not the same.
In the temple film, Adam does not worship Christ. It's very different in fact. Adam stands next to Christ as they worship another God they call Elohim. This is not Christianity. Not even close.
You are under the impression Adam worshipped Christ when in reality he worshipped Elohim. Who should I worship?
Bruce R. McConkie once said "do NOT worship the son". Do you agree or disagree with McConkie?
Remember, the Bible says that even the devils believe in Christ. Belief is not enough. Even if you say you worship Christ, that is still not enough. You must also reject ALL other gods to be in line with Traditional Christianity. If you worship a god named Elohim, and you're not speaking of Christ, this is far outside the doctrine of Traditional Christianity.

    • @noskalborg723
      @noskalborg723 2 місяці тому

@@redfightblue cute attempt. But the Book of Mormon says that we preach of Christ and rejoice in Christ.
And the New Testament and Pearl of Great Price also make clear that Christ defers glory to The Father Elohim and The Father gives glory to The Son. So to worship one is to worship the other in our estimation, but we DO worship Christ in grattitide for his atoning sacrifice. We DO pray to the Father, but it is in the name of Jesus Christ, thereby it is an act of worship unto both.
And for a Trinitarian, they believe that Christ and the Father are one. So for them to claim that our worship of the Father is somehow NOT a worship of the son is either showing that they don't actually believe the trinity, OR it shows that they think that someone who prays without believing their prayer goes to the trinity, is somehow praying to and hearing from a devil, which gives too much credit and power to evil.
Regarding the temple drama. You miss the fact that after Adam made animal sacrifice, as ge was commanded to, he was taught about the reason for it, he was taught about Christ.
NO-ONE cometh unto the Father unless they come by the Son. Adam did go unto the Father. Additionally, even in preexistence, after the council in heaven Jehovah was foreordained to go down and atone and was as such was relied upon and reverred for this even before his birth as Jesus.
Lastly regarding Bruce R. McConkie. I only have your word that Elder McConkie said such a thing. AND you have not only failed to cite a source/instance, but also failed to clarify the capacity in which he said such a thing: was it in apostolic duties? In a prrsonal capacity? At some time prior to his apostolic calling.
I will not fall for such smoke and mirrors. I glory in my Jesus who hath saved me from an awful hell inasmuch as i turn to him and repent (and also beyond what my works deserve, for in all things we rely on Christ's grace, even in the executon of our our works, which works do NOT save us; they help transform us. Without the grace of Christ, our works would be nothing but their inherent moral value and their mortal consequences. But without the grace if Christ God's will would be unsanctified and Elohim wpuld cease to be God and therefore not be a god.)

Does this make Greek and Egyptian mythology part of the Mormon theology, I highly doubt it. What does the Q15 have to say on this matter, that is the better question that should be asked. You don't see Dallin H. Oaks giving in-depth discourses on Osiris or any other Egyptian gods or deities.
Look, the fascination and connection to Egyptian lore is cool, I get it. And JS acquiring the papyrus and producing the BofA certainly makes us want to find further reinforcement for that connection. However even the Church readily admits that the BofA was not a translation of the papyrus and this is well documented on the Church website here:

    IMO:
Joseph Smith had the Book of Mormon and the Book of Abraham from the beginning. They are Ethiopian. The Book of Mormon describes the religion of Ethiopian Jews and the Book of Abraham is their version of Abraham. Everything was discovered in Africa, probably by explorers like James Bruce. He copied hundreds of manuscripts and brought them back to Europe.
After publishing the Book of Mormon, Joseph Smith used the discovery and purchase of the papyri to publish the Book of Abraham. He claimed it was an interpretation of the papyri but it was interpreted into English prior and has no connection to the Papyri. The purchase of the papyri was just the opportunity he needed to publish the Book of Abraham.
Joseph Smith attempted to use the discovery of the "Kinderhook Plates" to publish more. This was another Ethiopian manuscript in Joseph Smiths possession that we sadly never got to read. It is said to be written by a descendant of Ham and a Pharaoh of Egypt.
The "Sealed Portion" and D&C 7 likely came from this same source. All from an Ethiopian "library" or "temple" discovered during these explorations of Africa in the 1700's.
James Bruce published the Book of Enoch but may have died before the rest of his manuscripts were translated and published. They fell into the hands of Freemasons and Academics that ended up using them as an origin story for the Native American Indian instead of publishing them in their true form as a history of "Lost Tribes" in Africa. We now believe The Book of Mormon is about a "Lost Tribe" in America which is far less likely. Everything in the Book of Mormon describes Ethiopia.
Most people have no idea what I'm talking about because they haven't ever heard or researched this before.

How can anyone in their right mind ask others to believe in the existence of a Deity who makes Mormons so Christians will know how Jews feel, having had their literature hijacked. Nothing fails like prayers in a children's hospital & indoctrinating children is criminal. The faith vocabulary causes the user to be avoided like the old woman with too many cats. Faith "comes not with peace, but sword." Faith comes with wolves dressed as sheep & preaching to the choir. Faith trades the last cow for a pocketful of magic beans & then expects everyone's appreciation. Jesus said, it is a wicked generations which seeks signs such as resurrection. Faith is as worthless as fantasyland magic, since you can't tell mountains to move. The only sign in reality is Jonah: A believer murdered by other believers because he is outnumbered. The context is Jesus seeing a gathering crowd.
