"I guess it comes down to a simple choice, really. Get busy living, or get busy dying."
Fun Fact: Raquel Welch (RIP), whose One Million Years B.C. (1966) poster plays a significant role in the film, was a big fan of this movie.
Music Enthusiast Fact: The opera song that Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) plays over the loud speakers is "Canzonetta sull'aria" from "The Marriage of Figaro" by Mozart. It was Tim Robbins' idea for Andy to turn up the volume of the record player in the scene.
Bird Timing Fact: When Andy goes to the library to begin work as Brooks' (James Whitmore) assistant and Brooks' crow, Jake, is squawking, Tim Robbins had to time his line so that the crow wouldn't squawk over him, since the bird could not be trained to squawk on cue. Robbins was able to time his line perfectly by learning the bird's squawking patterns, for which writer/director Frank Darabont praised him.

Did you notice Andy's quote from the Bible to the warden was about the warden coming to check on him?
Also the rock hammer cut out started in Exodus 😂

Clancy Brown IS a drill instructor type (he’s a Sergeant) in the movie Starship Troopers! 😊

Dumping dirt through your pants was a thing way before Shawshank.

I loved how the book of the bible the hammer was hidden in, was the book of EXODUS.

I never understood how they get money on prison either. Even in The Green Mile, “I’ll give you a nickel for that moon pie”. WHERE’D he get the nickel?! Was my first thought. lol

      Two ways:
      1) Family or friends could put money in an escrow account for inmate's use. Like to buy paper, pens, and stamps to send letters.
      2) They could earn money for doing jobs, like laundry or whatever.
Of course, everything is electronic now.
Go in Peace and Walk with God. 😎 👍

In reality, Andy would have died in that pipe from the toxic fumes.

True. Every inch of the breakout is ridiculous, but it fits the story telling in an unobtrusive way and makes for a beautiful ending. Thematically, it’s his resurrection to the promised land where his disciple will be with him…

Not necessarily. It was a waste pipe that constantly drained, and had to have a vent pipe somewhere to draw air, not a septic system where a lot of gas could build up. Also, when he broke the pipe it would have helped vent the gases that were present.

The Great Escape is the film with tunneling and dropping drit out of pant sleeves that started it all. I'm glad you liked the film but if you didn't know that...man...you know very little about cinema.

The pipe part at the end doesn't make sense, it's all wrong.

      Cast iron can be broken.
There wouldn't be pressure on the sewage line though, unless it was clogged.
