Ok guys, I heard you! I WILL 100% be watching/reacting to the anime! Don't know exactly when that will start as it is a massive commitment to watch and edit batches of episodes at a time. The plan would be to do 3-5 episodes (maybe more) per video. I'd prefer to be at a point in my channel where I could bring on an editor to handle that as I do other weekly videos, so that's the goal. But I will be watching the anime, just need some more time to become more successful of a channel. Haha
You need to do at LEAST 3 in one video, lots of UA-camrs doing 2 in a video after the Live action. And most of them just reach 1/10 of 1000+ about now, so that’s 100+ episodes around a year. Therefore at least 3 episodes a video.
you will enjoy it, just remember the anime is from 1999, it will look dated initially, but its such a blast to watch! make sure you get to atleast where live action season 1 ended by the time season 2 starts :)
I was hater of One Piece for a more than a decade and never saw it before. Just some clips i saw on the internet. I gave a honest chance to one piece live action when it was released and after 2 episodes i decided to watch the anime. It got me and after a long journey it became my most favourite anime. It is suprising, but i have to thank live action to convince me to give that show a chance. Im glad you will react to anime and im looking forward to it. I think you will enjoy it aswell.
The funny thing about the art style is most people start the series not liking it, but over some time, you actually start to really appreciate the uniqueness of Odas art. He really hits the nail on the head with certain designs, if someone has a crappy personality, they're designs will probably reflect that.
I do appreciate the uniqueness myself, logically speaking. But despite that... I just can't like the human character styles. It doesn't vibe with me regardless of animation/drawn quality, even though I'm used to how it is and do still enjoy the heart/soul of the series. Because of that, I enjoy the LA above the other mediums (by a relatively small margin, yet still)
I'm a character designer myself and I love the character designs Oda comes up with, but I didn't at first. It's not enough to make a character design, it's also the personality and the backstory that brings it all together and can make you appreciate a characters design more. I wish I could read Oda's mind and see how he does it
Usopp's role in the crew is "liar". Every time Luffy lists off his crewmembers roles and skills he always talks about Usopp's lying and not his sniping. Because Luffy can't lie, so he admires Usopps ability to be a great liar. Also notice Jason wasn't weirded out by Luffy's powers in the 8th episode. One Piece Therapy is slowly working on him.
Right, like Zoro is a swordsman but his position on the crew is as First Mate. He stands behind his Captain and calls him out when needed. Usopp may be a sniper but it's his ability to tell stories that Luffy needs. He does sort of act as a cabin boy for awhile though. Taking on some of the odd jobs around the ship.
I love how some reactors see the Garps chase and go "but this is supposed to be the fastest ship on the ocean" and I'm like.. it was Usopp who said that..
I am 100% sure that if you give the anime and manga a try you'll end up loving the style, it's basically what happend to most people that watch this show. In fact, seeing that you manage to handleled here, in the most raw form: LIVE ACTION, you're suspense of disbelief will probably be lower once you watch or read the source material.
I think Nami's backstory hits harder in the manga/anime just because it has way more time to flesh out the situation, plus Nami's sister knows what Nami's doing. Excited to see you one day react to the anime, but until then I guess ill have to binge your other stuff.
57:40 In the live action, the Going Merry is named in honor of Kaya's oldest friend, in the manga/anime that's already the name of the ship because it was designed by Merry, he survives Kuro's stab and along Kaya give the ship as a reward for saving Kaya's life. Also Kuro doesn't use his superspeed when he is grabbed by Luffy because, in order to accelerate, he needs to do a special kind of footwork, in other words, he like "jumps" from place to place really fast so after he was caught, it was over.
Another reason Kuro doesn't do his superspeed as much is because he cannot control himself during it. He has enhanced speed, but he does not have the perception to properly use it. It's very threatening at low tiers, but lack of control make it pretty meh quickly. The live action doesn't go over this at all, but this is actually a big part of why Kuro kills so many crewmates. His lack of control literally has him slashing crewmates during battles, and then his crew is afraid of him so some likely consider taking his life.
Gotta be honest: I don't know who you are. I'm just a big One Piece fan who is obsessed with peoples reactions to the Live Action. But I really really enjoyed watching you experience this world for the first time. And most of all I really appreciate your honesty. Especially your honesty with your 2 very personal gripes with the manga and anime (that I agree with. Still not the biggest fan of Odas art style OR rubber powers, but Oda somehow manages to turn both into strengths. Its weird!). When you said you enjoyed Buggys juxtaposition of being kind of goofy but also frightening I yelled: "THAT is One Piece!" See you again in Season 2. Thanks for this 2 hour journey with you!
I like how you start out and for several episodes you're weirded out by the whole rubber thing, and by the end Luffy does the gattling move and you're like "that was pretty cool"
@@djfusionkotb I’ve always loved stretchy powers ever since I discovered Mr.Fantastic from DC But it’s true that Oda has a great way of using that kind of power.
@@djfusionkotb accurate. i wasn't against them, but i didn't exactly like them either lol. when it came to the fantastic four, i was a human torch fan. didn't particularly think mr. fantastic was fantastic to me lmao. it's one of the things that turned me away from op, and now here i am. watching reactions to OPLA and almost done wholecake island lol.
I remember hating the art style so much, it kept me away from One Piece for a long time, but as I watched more and more, and fell in love with the characters? I started to love Luffy’s massive smile, the over exaggerated bumps on the head, its very much a cartoonish styled anime.
one piece art style is caricature-ish, this is possibly why it works on live action. its the drawings that are the exaggeration, but they are just as real as people. it also helped that the showrunner is an actual fan and is passionate about the source material, the live action team was able to capture the essence of their characters instead of being obsessed about how they should look based on the drawings.
Exactly! Luffy is resilient and bounces back any time someone tries to knock him down. His power set being rubber makes perfect sense. Furthermore, the scar under his eye is a permanent reminder that he doesn't make choices that make sense... it's this level of crazy that one needs to sail the grand line.
At least maybe try reading the manga of One Piece. One Piece is the lord of the rings of anime. The story, the characters, drama, comedy and most importantly that makes One Piece amazing, is having the one of the best World Buildings and adventures in storytelling. One Piece may have, silly looking characters, but there is special charm to it. The characters are well written. The live action was good, there are few issues I had with but is a good introduction to One Piece. It has been announced that One Piece will be getting a reboot made by Wit Studios. The same studio who did the first few seasons of Attack On Titan. Maybe you can follow that series once it is released but will take along time. The powers are all unique and different
I have the same two turnoffs as you but One Piece completely won me over. And yes, the fanbase is passionate but also, I found it to be one of the most welcoming and fun fanbases I’ve experienced in my 20+ years of anime experience.
Okay, so Luffy's power? He uses it more differently than other elastic people. Oda gave him the power in order to challenge himself to have something so basic and make it fun and interesting. That's why it works in One Piece and is fun to watch - because it's not the typical "I can stretch" bullshit ( i mean, that is certainly something that DOES get used, but it's not all that's in his moveset)
As a fan of one piece, I can understand you. Those who watch anime, read manga, understand that it's almost in the way it's drawn, not in the design, not in the superpowers, but in the characters, in the story, in the world. But I understand that maybe it's not for everyone. I'm sorry if I made a mistake somewhere. English is not my first language.
I will definitely be coming back to check out your reaction to season 2! Loved this reaction! I love going around and watching people react to this! My favorite are those who have never watched the anime and start to question if they should! One piece is really good, of course the anime is so much deeper and better but this live action was *amazing*.
In the anime, the Going Merry was actually owned and built by Merry, so yeah, it was actually named that. After saving Kaya, it got given to the crew. X3
26:15 Shanks got there on his own little dingy while he was chasing after them. It wasn’t shown very well but the sea creature destroyed the dingy the mountain bandit was on.
@Ruffeep oh my bad, that's true. It's not shown in the manga, I always assumed he just swam there. I'm also assuming here in the case of the LA, but that's what made the most sense to me.
great reactions, valid opinions, a Lot of people dont look at One Piece and want to go watch all them 1000 episodes, but I believe, that the magic in One Piece is watching 4 episodes, then getting curious, then 6 episodes, and having fun, then 10 episodes and you completed some arc and want to go to the next, I myself have avoided One piece till I made 17yo, and only truly enjoyed when I turned 20yo and started to see the great writing Oda shows in little details that pay off 100-200 episodes in the future, I love this show, Oda loves his show, and so does the team that made this Netflix adaptation, really looking forward for season 2. Thank you for giving a try, I hope you had fun, and if you get interested in watching the anime, dont worry about "catching up to 1000 episodes" just watch an arc at a time, One Piece really is about the journey not the end.
id like to note that the reason bullets bounce off of him is simply because of the time the anime is set. Back then, bullets were still round balls, which were blunt, not pointy, modern day bullets would pierce him. Swords can cut him because they are sharp not blunt.
51:44 I believe it was falling down stairs while getting a sharpening block due to their duel the day before where they promised to be the greatest swordsman/swordswoman
Garp is an interesting character. He really wants Luffy to pursue his dream and so tested his resolve. but at the same time, he is really frustrated that Luffy became a pirate. This conflict of character is shown throughout the series. I also really liked the Sanji story in the Live Action. In the anime, the Nami story is by far the best story of the East Blue saga, which the Live Action season 1 covers. Oh and the blonde dude that becomes Koby's friend is named Helmeppo.
The ambulance outside your house WAS great timing! Also, while I was watching your video and you asked, “Gum-Gum…Bell?” a bell tolled on the show my hubby was watching on TV. 😂😂😂😂😂
I think the Garp here is still trying to convince himself at the same time he was trying to know if luffy was ready….becuz theres alot of power house in grandline like him…marines or pirates
You seem to really enjoy analyzing the story on a literary level: lore, character growth, etc. If so, I promise you will ADORE the rest of the story! Oda is a student of history and his world building rivals Tolkien.
"Be gentle One Piece fans, I know how you can be sometimes" Is a wildly insulting and inaccurate response to one of the most /welcoming/ fandoms in the medium. Don't believe me, ask just about any reaction channel that has covered the One Piece live action or anime since the live actions release. You're welcome to the fandom, abandon any preconceived notions and come along on the cruise.
33:00 That's Go (in Japan) it has other names elsewhere. You try to surround more territory than your opponent with your stones. Plus you get points for stones that you surround on all sides. Coby is playing defensive trying to keep Garp from capturing any stones when he should accept the losses and attack Garp's weaknesses. If you have space, I highly recommend Hikaru No Go as a short anime series that features a ghost of a brilliant Go player that was cheated in the past and a little boy that can see him. Good fun!
I personally think Garp was trying to actually capture/convert Luffy until that conversation with Zeff. Koby kind of planted the seed, but Zeff seems to be one who got Garp to see Luffy's potential, especially with the Roger comparison. Also, there are indeed some hints early on that he knows who he's chasing, like reacting with incredulity and interest to the mention of a straw hat in the first episode and Luffy's name in the second.
Makesense. I do love Onepiece so much but i'm not argue that character design (mostly earlier one) doesn't click with me. One I snack on my first episode, here I am at 1119. XD
If you are considering watching One Piece, but are still undecided, you should consider watching the "Breathtaking World of One Piece". It just shows landscapes, and that's about it. The world is vast, and the lore is deep, and that video gives no spoilers away. Just visuals of the different nations and islands. I completely understand those gripes about the look of the show. I get it 100%. It was the reason I didn't watch it for most of it's run. But I had just finished watching Naruto, and felt a great void it left, and that was the only reason I gave it a shot. It STILL took a long time to get used to the visuals; but, I also appreciated the great writing, and that's what kept me watching until the payoffs started coming. Then I was in like Flin.
Naw dude don’t feel pressured to like something from a fandom, as a one piece fan i apologize for our occasional “fervor” we’ll gently call it 😅. The fact you are attempting this is appreciated, so go into however you want. If you don’t like it no worries and if you do end up liking it, welcome to the crew 🤝
"He already know from the very begining that it was his grand son is the straw hat pirates, remember that Coby also tell garp the name of the pirates that help him free from Alvida Pirates !"....😅🤔
Can't imagine One Piece fans being terribly mean about people being immediately put off by eccentric character designs or dumb stretchy powers. One Piece fans know better than anyone that OP has a tendency to make decision after decision that cause you to instantly think "that is f'n stupid and it'll never work" and have OP turn around and say "nope, it's awesome actually" and somehow find a way to get to a point where you regret being so cynical.
honestly, these are superficial things. If it bothers you then dont watch. No one is forcing you to watch. One piece has cemented its name for its story, characters and world. Its like saying you dont like worms and will never watch dune. Yuu missing out. Thats all on you. Either dont watch, which is totally ok. Not your cup of tea thats fine. Or watch it but dont make superficial excuses.
the thing that made zoro believe in luffy was that he was the first person who took his dreams seriously and didn't try to force him to join forces. didn't give him consequences if he turned them down. you pointed that out, but i am confirming it. :) anime logic. iirc in the manga and anime, shanks came to luffy on another dingy boat buuuut my memory is foggy. he might've just swam. but in the anime and manga he's in the water with luffy, and memes went around where he's just hugging his head one armed while kicking his legs around to keep them afloat. 😂 so they probably wanted to avoid that hahaha. i dismissed it as he came there on another boat but it toppled over when the seabeast popped up.
This show adds a lot that actually work super well. Bluetooth transponder snail, really smart idea there's no reason that can't be a thing Zoro being more picky choosy with how often he uses his 3rd sword, yeah that works he values that sword highly, why waste it on weak opponents. Sanji not being a complete perv, now he no longer has the one thing keeping him from being the best character lol.
"Funny thing is Merry had a lil' lamb is a sheep men that habe design the ship and his office in the ship yard, you know that sheep ship on the ship yard design by sheep man that have good relationsheep with Kaya parents before they pass away !"....😅
Kuina is dead in the current timeline. But, it is strange that Oda is not clearer about her destiny. I mean, he has 4 ways of telling those who follow his work that she's really dead and she's not coming back. In the manga, we see a body but the face is covered with a cloth, so you can't be 100% sure that it's her. Same thing in the anime where we attend her funeral without being certain that it’s her. In live action, same thing, no body. So no certainty. While Oda is not afraid to show death, even raw. And I don't remember reading or seeing an interview where he said Kuina was really dead. So there's always a possibility that she's alive somewhere. Slim possibility but it exists.😊
Wow you caught up on detective Conan so recommend you live action of its pretty good it's called Shinichi Kudo Returns! Confrontation with the Black Organization give it a try
How i instantly knew he will say "im a fan of Anime but i actually didnt see "? Its similar epidamy as with movie reactors who never seen anything before starting their react channels. no Star Wars, no Terminator, no whatever is popular on reaction channels that time.
If your sad it’s over. I have some good news for you. This is actually a pretty famous anime which has a 1000 episodes which you could watch right now 😂
I really didn't liked the art style when I first startet watching (and later reading) 😂 but it totally grew on me and now I adore most of it and love that it is so unique. But even if you don't like the style (and you really get used to it fast 😂) I think you will like the story. Give it a try 😊
I didn’t watch or read one piece because of the art too. Stylistically I’m very aware it’s good (I literally design and sell art at cons), but personally I just can’t look at those drawing and see something I connect with. I’ve tried getting into it four or five times by now. The live action gave me a reason to care about this story that’s very important to a lot of people, and I’m glad I’m just at least somewhat in the loop now, even if it’s not exactly the same. Tbh, if they just released a light novel version I’d buy every single volume and read the shit out of it.
If u want a better understanding of luffys weaknesses and strengths u can look up the strength and weaknesses of rubber and it’ll give u an idea of his short comings when it comes to his power set.
I never watched one piece until the live action. Fell in love with it instantly. Started the anime but I must say I can only do an episode every few days. I like some anime but the ones where every line is yelled and way over exaggerated grates on my nerves. I’m hoping I get used to it but right now it’s hard to get into lol. But I love the world so much from the live action I’m going to keep going.
Dude you gotta watch the anime. Trust me, the live action is great, but it doesn't hold a candle to the anime. The live action is supposed to cover all of East Blue, 60 ish episodes, but just start from the beginning of the anime. The base of the LA is similar to the anime, but it is different enough to be its own thing. At least watch the 1st 37 (up until the "help me" moment). 37 is usually the turning point where people go from "haha funny goofy rubber pirate" to "Ok I see the appeal and I am invested".
"Up to date with detective conan" now that is a feat. That series is longer than one piece. I've only gotten up to episode 200. I've seen the art style via screenshots in later episodes 800+ and I fear I'm not going to like them. That is a series you should NOT binge watch. If you watch 50 episodes at a time you will start looking around your house for clever ways to kill people and hide the body to make it look like an accident...
Ok guys, I heard you!

As you saw the, the LA is gonna be worse for the stretching because it falls into the uncanny valley. The manga/anime look fake and its less jarring.

Consider when they say 'beri' as a unit of currency it's similar in scale to yen. A yen is kinda like a cent. So, 100 million = $1 million
2:15 according to the mangaka himself, at the time of the East Blue, Luffy could stretch any limb to a maximum of a hundred gomu gomus

45 episodes (anime) = 8 episodes (Netflix adaptation)
And 95 manga chapters
The spirit of the show is retained, but the Live Action cut out and changed a lot to fit that runtime

Bro that was me, one piece was too goofy but then I ran out of anime. now I think one piece is the greatest story ever told
In the anime, the Going Merry was actually owned and built by Merry, so yeah, it was actually named that. After saving Kaya, it got given to the crew. X3
There's actually a one piece themed cook book and the fried rice Sanji made for Gin is the star dish.
26:15 Shanks got there on his own little dingy while he was chasing after them. It wasn’t shown very well but the sea creature destroyed the dingy the mountain bandit was on.
That's not really shown in the manga, so we actually don't know how Shanks got there
@Ruffeep oh my bad, that's true. It's not shown in the manga, I always assumed he just swam there. I'm also assuming here in the case of the LA, but that's what made the most sense to me.
Thanks!
great reactions, valid opinions, a Lot of people dont look at One Piece and want to go watch all them 1000 episodes, but I believe, that the magic in One Piece is watching 4 episodes, then getting curious, then 6 episodes, and having fun, then 10 episodes and you completed some arc and want to go to the next, I myself have avoided One piece till I made 17yo, and only truly enjoyed when I turned 20yo and started to see the great writing Oda shows in little details that pay off 100-200 episodes in the future, I love this show, Oda loves his show, and so does the team that made this Netflix adaptation, really looking forward for season 2.
1:02:09 yes they did build the ships when they were getting people excited to watch it, they put out a behind-the-scenes of building Building ships
not having an issue with the length and still not watching is crazy ngl
I’m a one piece fan, a late one, well in my thirties. It changed my life. Enjoy.

Even though you've caught up to 45 episodes of the anime, I'd still recommend you watching it from the beginning in the anime.
To be fair media has been comparing anime’s and diehard fans aren’t very nice about it
It's no where near inaccurate 💀
Legends you were talking about character design, I didn’t expect Usopp to be your example that is turning your off the anime.
I really recommend you to watch The Breathtaking World of One piece, it doesnt have spoilers and you'll get to see how big is the world!!!!!
28:52 prev boat got flipped, he bought a new one. Common sense 28:52
Finally, someone who understand. I thought I was alone. It is obvious that it is not the same boat. 😊
Also yes they did build that ship
33:00 That's Go (in Japan) it has other names elsewhere. You try to surround more territory than your opponent with your stones. Plus you get points for stones that you surround on all sides. Coby is playing defensive trying to keep Garp from capturing any stones when he should accept the losses and attack Garp's weaknesses. If you have space, I highly recommend Hikaru No Go as a short anime series that features a ghost of a brilliant Go player that was cheated in the past and a little boy that can see him. Good fun!
To answer to your question: this season fill around 50-60 episodes. The Garp grand dad is different, it reviled around 300 episodes
This show really hits the feels
Zeff is like Gordon Ramsay
Honestly I didn't like stretchy powers before I watched One Piece, but Luffy has a way of making them badass
Shanks isn’t a devil fruit user. He can swim lol
1:43:00 is there a little monkey island vibe in it? „You are fighting like a cow!“ 😂
Ussop's role is the sniper
Makesense. I do love Onepiece so much but i'm not argue that character design (mostly earlier one) doesn't click with me.
One I snack on my first episode, here I am at 1119. XD
Koby is a very smart character. He knows exactly how dangerous the world can be. Maybe that's why he is scared all the time.
Jason: Even he's eating. It's not fair
Garp: The world's not fair
1:06:47
"No it's not a Ram, It's a Sheep for Shipping things around the sea !"...😅
The other boat flipped over. That was a different boat.
Took you 6 episodes but it seems you finally understand one piece.
I think a duel to the death doesnt need to mean killing your opponent. it rather means fighting until your own life is over
If you are considering watching One Piece, but are still undecided, you should consider watching the "Breathtaking World of One Piece".
anime logic. iirc in the manga and anime, shanks came to luffy on another dingy boat buuuut my memory is foggy. he might've just swam. but in the anime and manga he's in the water with luffy, and memes went around where he's just hugging his head one armed while kicking his legs around to keep them afloat. 😂 so they probably wanted to avoid that hahaha. i dismissed it as he came there on another boat but it toppled over when the seabeast popped up.
This show adds a lot that actually work super well.
Bluetooth transponder snail, really smart idea there's no reason that can't be a thing
Zoro being more picky choosy with how often he uses his 3rd sword, yeah that works he values that sword highly, why waste it on weak opponents.
Sanji not being a complete perv, now he no longer has the one thing keeping him from being the best character lol.
Love your reaction man. Its natural and nice edited. Hope you will jump to the anime. I'll looking forward for it. 👍
"Funny thing is Merry had a lil' lamb is a sheep men that habe design the ship and his office in the ship yard, you know that sheep ship on the ship yard design by sheep man that have good relationsheep with Kaya parents before they pass away !"....😅
90 episodes. That's how much season 1 covers.
You should give the anime a watch! really worth it!
Soon...
"She might be stronger, but not faster !"...😩
Ofcourse Kaya knows what Ussops "head" looks like 😉😉😉😉😉
Crazy thing about the adaption is that the fishman aren't even using cgi that's all make up
Me, a One Piece fan: “Chillax man, not everyone has to like One Piece”
Me, an Incredibles fan: “DID YOU JUST SAY ELASTIMAN👁️👁️?!”
Wow you caught up on detective Conan so recommend you live action of its pretty good it's called Shinichi Kudo Returns! Confrontation with the Black Organization give it a try
"It's 45 episodes to Arlong ARC if I'm not mistaken !".....🤔
"He's not the Goat man He's the Sheep men, Aries is not the same as Capricorn even though they look a like lil' bit !"....😩
If you want more, you have 1100 episodes to see.
Tbh, if they just released a light novel version I’d buy every single volume and read the shit out of it.
the first season covers around 45 episodes.
But I love the world so much from the live action I’m going to keep going.
the season of Netflix adapt nearly first 50 episode of anime
I've watched a lot of anime. Overall, One piece probably get the greatest story ever! Here for the big run. Watched all over 1000 episodes.
