I got to see a 2003? Cherry Windcloud in person. The build quality was... very very poor compared to the Mk2 VW it was based on. Doors sounded hollow. Roof had no cross supports, and sounded like a can lid when you tapped on it. I think this car had a Mini engine?? I always thought the Mk3 / Corrado dash in the Chinese cars looked nice. Remember the T4 vans were CEII to the end. Those had CAN, ESP, and 24v VR6s!
Chinese viewer here, when Santana and Jetta first came to China, the country was fairly poor, therefore they were mainly used as taxi cabs and company cars. It was not unitl mid-2000s when economy was much better that these cars became cheap enough to be the true people's car.
@@427Motorsports my issue with them is the issues they have. I spent years as a certified VW technician, so I've seen their (actual) problems. I won't buy one, nor will I work on one, ever again. vw accidentally built these better than their current models, but those are designed to last as long as the warranty lasts. That is it. Used car sales don't count as sales for vw, and every used car sale is a missed new car sale, so if a car lasts too long that hurts VW's new car sales. why do you think they have 10k mile oil changes? Not to preserve the car! That is to ensure it lasts 30k miles (warranty), but also ensure enough wear that it won't last much more.
Yeah but these are literally the old designs that you're talking about. So your initial point still makes no sense, you'd have been as well off commenting that on a video about a new VW, not old ones.
@@427Motorsports even the chassis issues with that POS! like, the not independent rear suspension & MacPhailson with foam rubber mounts combine to make dynamic 4-wheel alignment all wrong, from the factory. and they're slow
GTI 8V, and GTI 16V. The G60 and Rallye and Syncros were their own thing. I guess you could count the 2.0 American one as a separate one if you wanted.
Volkswagens from the II generation were built like a tank and weighed almost nothing. That was the time VW delivered quality. From generation III and on VW cheaped out on quality and never got over that. So it is not surprisable that a Chinese company was still building the very good Jetta II.
@427Motorsports I know that in China cars do have to be scrapped by the time they reach 600,000 km on the odometer, but I haven't heard of a specific age to be scrapped.
LMAO the orignals were a handful and in my ~50+ car ownership, I would rather own a Lada than another CIS-E or even a Digifant MK2. While I love the design, the reliability of these POSes is terrible.
Heritage, do do fuck all except sell parts that are already available elsewhere! They dont make or restore anything! I don't know why people constantly blow smoke up their arses when they are just another parts place.
We can only speak from experience on this channel and nobody pays us to say fuck all, so, we’ve always found them to be very helpful with any queries we’ve had, plus having everything in one place is the best. We’ve been using them for over 11 years. We struggle sometimes in NI with parts so when we can get people who’ll ship next day to here, you latch on to them. But, you’re right. They don’t restore anything, and they are merely resellers. Can’t argue with you there. 🤷🏻♂️
When you think about it. Fascism is the reason why Volkswagen exists. So everyone who owns it or drives it is a little bit fascist in his/her's own way.

Definitely gonna have to research that… never heard of it!!
Chinese viewer here, when Santana and Jetta first came to China, the country was fairly poor, therefore they were mainly used as taxi cabs and company cars. It was not unitl mid-2000s when economy was much better that these cars became cheap enough to be the true people's car.
btw the commercial shown at 7:08 is actually the second facelift of Jetta, the Jetta king mentioned should look like 11:39
I bet it would improve reliability & performance by repowering it with Chonda industrial engines (knockoff Honda engines, ie Predator).
Not sure what reliability issues you’re having with these things but okay
Okay lad. Sound.
No mention of Santana... they are more common than Jetta In China... ooopps
Aye because it’s a video about the Jetta… ooooopps
VWSa exported the first Jetta 2’s to China
That's what I thought too - Mk3 was definitely VWSA
It’s just TOMO’s favorite platform, I bet you Connor wouldn’t spit on yours if it was on fire 😂
Favourite VW platform 🤐
3 types of mk2 Golf Gti remember .
The Golf has always been way more upscaled in Canada than the Jetta. They hold their value way better than the Jetta too.
That’s so weird, polar opposites from here. Maybe Carly Rae didn’t get the memo. 😂
Here in South Africa, we call FAW - F*#cking Awful Wheels
😂😂😂
More like Failed At Working
Just go to China n buy one, they don’t worth much in China because they mostly are taxis. I would love to c u there .
Maybe if our channel takes off a lot more and we have the budget, but that ain’t gonna be any time soon 😂
@@427Motorsports come on mate . why not take the opportunity of the 144 hrs visa free ans see VW or car culture in China may help ur channel grow.
3:36 take that back, don't equate Sony to people, dont say what you said ever again
They won't be people til they allow cross platform play!!
Amazing, to think I rebuilt a 1991 MkII 2.0L 16V & crashed it. 😂😂
China doing something positive 😂🤦🏻♂️ fair play China 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I'll keep my mitsu/chrysler awd dsm thanks. When it comes to VW no diesel no point, nothing else is worth a shit.
All vehicles must be scrapped after12 yrs, dying out.
Is that a law in China?
@@427Motorsports basically
Noooooo
@427Motorsports I know that in China cars do have to be scrapped by the time they reach 600,000 km on the odometer, but I haven't heard of a specific age to be scrapped.
If it is law, what about Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan?
LMAO the orignals were a handful and in my ~50+ car ownership, I would rather own a Lada than another CIS-E or even a Digifant MK2. While I love the design, the reliability of these POSes is terrible.
Can’t relate to your problems with Digifant but okay you do you I guess
@@427Motorsports I did away with it 20 years ago, and won't touch it again. Current setup is a DGEV 38/38 and loving it.
Can’t you just buy and import a cheap one from China?
You probably can. But with our budget? No chance 😂
so the workforce in your country is useless ?
Huh? Whats this got to do with Ireland?
When you think about it. Fascism is the reason why Volkswagen exists. So everyone who owns it or drives it is a little bit fascist in his/her's own way.
just wait til you find out about IBM and Hugo Boss lad
@@427Motorsports sure i know about them and their love for adolf
and funnily enough china's economic system is actually the most similar to the fascist system
VW is in decline right now, probably due to the strenght of the chinese EV cars. Ironically if VW dies it might be china that might keep the vw cars going.
