I stumbled on Dave by trying to find the original composer of the song 'The Auctioneer'. ( I was listening to the Gordon Lightfoot version). I'm a 40 year musician and I can't believe I'm unaware of Dave Stamey. He is sooo very talented!
Sitting here in front of the computer and listening to favorite songs. Dave performs many of my favorites. But this is the first time that I have heard this song. I know. I've been living under that rock. Beautiful song. Sad, but beautiful. I've listened to it for 2 hours now. And I love it. Going to learn it, but I know I won't be as good as Dave.
I believe what makes this song so deep and with so much feelings is that many of us, in one way or another have experienced similar feelings and loss as expressed by this song. I don't believe anyone could have performed this better than Dave Stamey, thank you for the music...
This heartbreaking ballad seems to say everything there is about oblique hope and longing, followed by unnecessary loss. Mr. Stamey's accuracy to the original printed words, his intelligibly slow delivery and emotional integrity only heighten my regard. Thank you for this moving version.
Dave could sing the phone book I'd listen. What a great voice and a great cowboy singer.
He's awesome
Love this guy, he has written so many great songs.
How on earth did i miss this song ? Gotta say Dave has sung from his heart, as if it has an autobiographical feeling for him.

That’s one of the most beautiful songs of all time.
Excellent, just beautiful. I also live near the border and this song always had a very real feel to it.
Ive built a song list of just Dave's songs mixed in with Baxter Black poems. Warms my heart and calms my life to listen to.
Beyond word’s how his music effects me, he is a rare treasure to western music
My favorite Badger Clark poem. Lonnie used to sing this for me.
