After Rowlf’s line about the hole in Jimmy’s headlight......the way Jimmy was leaning over the fence and breaking himself laughing, I could only imagine him and Jim Henson exchanging looks and Jim H. giving Jimmy that “Yeah I got ya good that time!” type of look!! 😁👍
What I find the most interesting is that when Jimmy hits Rawlf with the tongue depressor, Jim was quick to respond as Rawlf by grabbing his eye. Puppets were so second nature to him even so early on in his career.
Jim Henson's first big break. Dean was always sincere and talked to Rowlf like he believed he was real - that's why it worked so well. Henson gratefully offered Jimmy Dean 1/2 share in the Muppets (worth 100s of millions later) but Jimmy turned it down thinking he didn't deserve it - and to his death swore he never regretted it.
That happens a lot actually. There's a moment in the prison sketch where they both crack up after Jimmy's botched quick change. ua-cam.com/video/Hm0aV6qLQU4/v-deo.html
Dean set the standard for interacting with Muppets, as far as I'm concerned. When I was a kid watching these wonderful live shows, I loved when Rowlf (Henson) broke Dean up completely. My parents tried to tell me it was all scripted, but I knew better!
That show was so good in so many ways. Our whole family sat around the TV and enjoyed that show. It had entertainment that pleased everyone. Dad and I rolled with laughter at every Rowlf session. Just took good! Too bad no one can make a show this good anymore.
Was just randomly watching this on June 13th after rewatching the Defunctland special. Didn't realize today marks the 12th year anniversary of Jimmy's passing. Didn't know much about him but going off this alone, he must've been a real class act.
That's pretty awesome that he legit made jimmy laugh lol wish a show like this could still exist but peeps just couldn't handle it. Not "stimulating: enough I guess
To clear the confusion, Kermit was the first Muppet to become a star on local television, while Rowlf was the first to become a hit with a national audience.
Jimmy Dean was an honest man, as well as talented - people like him are happy with what they got. He'd be the type to say, " you caint take it with you!"

I recently heard Jim Henson would ad libbed specifically trying to make him break.
I feel like Jim H. gave him a look that said “you’ve met your match dean”😂
i didn't get that. is there subtext i'm missing? or is it just the ad-lib nature of the joke that broke Jimmy?

And now, the origins of the continuing stooooooooooooooory of a quack who's gone to the dogs.
@Seamus Walker Dohohohoho!
"I always visit when I'm feeling ruff, Dooohohoohoo!"
"What the heck happened?!"
"My belly button blew out."
LOL, I love that!
Thank you Defunctland for showing me the way to this.
Jimmy's laugh at 4:12 - he clearly wasn't expecting that comeback from Rowlf.
4:00
Rowlf: Hey, doc, there’s a hole in your headlight.
Jimmy Dean: Now, get outta here.
That happens a lot actually. There's a moment in the prison sketch where they both crack up after Jimmy's botched quick change.

I actually remember that line from when I saw this show as a kid. And I used it a time or two.
bad timestamp

jimmy had the best laugh when rowlf got him cracking up..omg this was such a good show!!
"Hey, what happened to the popsicle?" LOL!
_"Hey, what happened to the popcicle?"_ is still a favourite of mine whenever I have a trip to the doctors 😊
I remember this from when I was little. So cute! So nice to see it again.
Same here, I'll never forget the line "My belly button blew out". I must have been 9 or 10 the first time I saw this! What a great find!

Part of this was on The Muppets: A Celebration of 30 Years.

When I grow up, I want to be a country musician’s silly dog sidekick

Rowlf is so cute and cuddly.
Thank you,i loved it a lot. It made me happy! I was a little girl back then in Manhattan.❤😊
This sketch is now 55 years old!
That's pretty awesome that he legit made jimmy laugh lol wish a show like this could still exist but peeps just couldn't handle it. Not "stimulating: enough I guess
He always had fun with Rowlf!!
Jimmy was a lovely human!
Thanx, a bagel, so so much for sharing this treasure!
Haven't seen it in its entirety since first-run way back when.
Rowlf forever!
I never thought I'd see this in its entirety, I've seen at least 3 different sections over the past 25 or more years
Gah! I've been longing to see this one! :)
HeySplurge Me too! I absolutely love the Muppets (especially their early history) 😊
This came out 30 Years before I was born *(to the Day)*
No wonder it's one of my favorites *:)*
I never knew a show like this existed! Hilarious🤣
Thank you so much for posting this. My does it make me really happy!!.💕
I remember this as a child, Rowlf and Jimmy, not this episode. Loved Rowlf.
Hey doc there’s a hole in your headlight 😂
This is so cute you can see the guy working with Ralph it’s just going along with it and laughing lol
4:00 hey doc, there's a hole in your headlight
4:34 LOL
Clips from this skit were used in "The World of Jim Henson."
I love this old show wish they'd show it on pbs
Or Me Tv.
Love that dog
MY BELLY BUTTON BLEW UP!
"Maybe I got the virus". Oh dear.
Timesless. Nearly 60 years old, still funny.
Rowlf: "MD=Miserable Doctor" LOL
"I'm having trouble breathing too"
"And I've got a cough"
*crono viris*
Rowlf Is By Far The Second Oldest Muppet, The Oldest Is Kermit.
I Want to See the Episode When Rowlf the Dog Had a B-Day Cake That Looked Just Like Him and He Licked It and said "I Taste Good". LOL (smile)
1:43 why is nobody mentioning this lmao. Standing room only for Rowlf.
Jimmy called him "Ralph", not "Rowlf". Oops.
Rawlf a Legend
Don’t cover your mouth with your paw, Rowlf!

Me When I Graduated
Wait A Minute Wait A Minute WAIT A MINUTE!!! I Thought Kermit The Frog Was The First Muppet To Become A Star
nope. Rowlf.
Nope! Rowlf was the first! It's a common misconception!
And that was back in the day when Jim Henson was rowlf...watched Jimmy all the time...always looked forward to the rowlf bit he did every week...
To clear the confusion, Kermit was the first Muppet to become a star on local television, while Rowlf was the first to become a hit with a national audience.
Kermit was created first, yes. 1955.
Rowlf was nationally known first.
Rowlf Plays The Piano On The Muppet Show
Rowlf: My belly button blew out!
rowlf said hey what happen the popsical😂😂😂😂
Can you make a clip of Rowlf’s toothache and the dentist from Episode 304?
Heard of Jimmy Dean, muppets brought me here. Didn’t realize Jimmy was a pretty boy.
Imagine if Jimmy Dean took a 40 percent offer gift. Jimmy Dean might had been a billionaire when he died.
Jimmy Dean was an honest man, as well as talented - people like him are happy with what they got. He'd be the type to say, " you caint take it with you!"
Poor Rowlf I feel bad for him even though he's a muppet dog. How can he get over this flu?
I thought Jim Henson played rowlf! This is Frank Oz!
This is Jim Henson! Frank Oz assisted him with the right hand.
He calls him Ralph I always said it Rolf
So pretty much we've the voice of Rick Sanchez from "Rick, and Morty" as a dog puppet. Where's Muppet Morty when you need him!?!?...
Creaidan the Hedgehog Wouldn’t be surprised if Rick’s voice was inspired by Rowlf’s voice
Screw him
Well, to be fair, rowlf's voice is deeper than rick's voice, but I do see where you made the comparison!
My favorite dog is sike
The hunting friend was John Wayne
Rowlf is OLD!
Rowlf is a Classic.
Thanks to kermitment i found this
Sausage Nigels
how many are we talking about here
