  • Today I review Maraska Sljivovica Plum Brandy - Over the years I have enjoyed a good Plum Brandy from time to time, however, not this particular one. A drink that is a favourite among Eastern European Countries, it has definitely made its mark on the greater world platform. Édouard Manet a 19th-century Impressionist immortalized this drink in his Painting titled "Plum Brandy" which at the time was viewed as quite controversial. So lets pull up a stump, and taste this little number from Croatia and see what all the fuss is about! Keep ya stick on the ice!

I like Maraska, but prefer Bistra from Serbia. Surprisingly (yes, I'm a bit snobbish LOL), the Czech brand Jelinek is actually VERY good - their honey infused Slivovic is actually addictive (first few sips seem harsh, then... you start feeling the LOVE). I'm Jewish AND grew up in the Soviet Union... Slivovic wasn't so easy to get in the shops, BUT... thanks to my dad's family in Jugoslavija (long story), we got it sent to us regularly. After we escaped the USSR, we lived in Jugoslavija and... HEAVEN. Slivovic and Rakija were part of everyday life (even as teens LOL). NOW... I'm married to a Slovenijan - we have types of Slivovic and Rakija for every occasion (or else). We live in Cleveland, Ohio - there's a massive population of Croatians, Slovenijans, Jews, and Bosnians here, so our state stores tend to be WELL stocked. Sadly, the highest proof is only about 60% (that's kid's level back in Croatia LOL) My favourite OHLQ shop at last visit had 10 brands - including the full range of Takovo elixirs made with different fruits than plums (the Apricot... mmmmm)... Great vid - though... in OZ does Maraska only come in that shaped bottle? Here it's always in the round ones.

Master, I've learned so much. But no, seriously. "Leave it unaged with wood" now it makes sense.

It's pretty much the only Slivovitz I can find in Australia. I love it and would love to try others if you have any suggestions. Also a big fan of a nice Poire Williams

Having the round one. Amazingly smooth. Ps. Very noisy. Got a better mic? :)

45 different pronunciations in first minute only! Not an easy one, almost as Worcestershire LOL! Good video though :D
