I NEED to know if they are like this. Thanks Dylan, you just helped me with my lesson plan for next week.

In most asian cultures, there is a subtle competition of who is the smartest and the pressure of learning a lot in school as to not be seen as "dumb" or "stupid" by your fellow classmates or batchmates. I don't like cringing at people who don't know things, because that's an easy fix (especially if they're willing), just teach them. Problem solved!
      We also have to be aware that the video Dylan's watching is edited and they probably filtered out all the people with the right answer in order to make a point out of, what, 4 to 5 people? So yeah.

    • @secretlybees
      @secretlybees 2 роки тому +43

      Often they teach geography as part of history class. A lot of schools don't have a specific geography class outside of high school electives. • @HouseMDaddict

      I was a person that hated history classes but I still got high 80s in the classes and grades in the 80s on state tests I had to pass in history. Geography was my jam. I literally had no interest in the rehashing of US history. It was incredibly boring. I did better with two years (we do two years in New York, with a whole year on a certain timeframe and then a second year on a different timeframe. For example, global 1 would be pre-1776 worldwide, and then Global 2 would be post-1776. Then we'd have a year in high school (3rd year) of purely US history and then 4th/last year it was half a year of economics and half a year of Participation on Government (like laws, voting, policy, etc). The Harlem Renaissance was the only interesting part of American history. That and learning about the different American Indian/Native American tribes (we actually visited a camp in 7th grade and got to live like they did for a day because our teacher was part Mohawk).

We used to do trivia games in class and the answers my peers gave just made me feel so bad for all the teachers who spent their time trying to impart knowledge. And yes, I’m from the USA.

      @@celianunn2070 I remember those days. People have learned not to try arguing with me. Not only will I be right, I’ll know exactly how to prove I’m right. Case in point, the Navy is in my family. I had a substitute teacher tell me my surname (I’m not giving it out) is spelled wrong. I explained that sextant is Not my last name. That my surname is actually a position in the church. This idiot told me I was wrong so I got the dictionary and looked up both words, then had him read the definitions. I was 12 years old. He was probably in his late 20s/early 30s.

      @@celianunn2070 That sounds like a very stupid or very stubborn person. If not both. I wish I could say it gets better. But the truth is it doesn’t. There will always be some moron who is convinced he or she knows everything and you couldn’t possibly be right.
      I was born with 3 very rare medical problems. After knowing me 18 years, my best friend told me one of my medical issues didn’t exist and that I couldn’t have the symptoms I was having. I just stared at him like “are you sure you want to be schooled right now?” He remained adamant that I had told him the wrong condition. So I said “would you like to see the giant binders I’ve got chock full of my history with this condition that doesn’t exist? I’ve got 30 years of medical documentation.” And for some reason he decided to argue that I couldn’t have that many medical papers. At that point I lost it. There is 1 thing in this world that I know more about than anyone: my health. So if you have the gall to tell me I don’t know what I’m talking about, you better be prepared for the rage coming your way in response. I have been hospitalized a lot of times over what seemed like minor symptoms. I know when something is wrong. Shoot, I just saved my life in March by recognizing that I was turning yellow because my liver was in trouble.

      As a teacher I can confirm. But I have to say...everyone is trying to blame the schools but in my honest opinion from what i've seen it has nothing to do with what is taught in the classroom but what media the students are consuming in their free time. When I was growing up we watched tv shows that explored things like history in a fun way or at least made intelligent jokes about history and/or science facts. magic school bus, mr rogers, boy meets world, game shows, etc. It was carefully crafted and scripted by networks and educated adults. Even the stupid jokes referenced facts and trivia and would reinforce things learned at school. That's how we all know the basic information needed to answer the questions in this video. Now all the kids are watching these days is content made by their peers or adults who are just trying to go viral and get views. Slime videos, pranks, memes, dances, challenges, drama, thirst traps, fail videos! It's what I call "serotonin shot" content, which is fine in moderation but I feel that's all they get anymore!

    I'm old and don't fit into this generation. But I will play devils advocate here... People get nervous with a camera in their face and won't question the questions. Like which state is Utah in... As a Canadian (yeah, we're a country. Mostly.) I know that Utah is a state, so I'm sure these kids do too. But the way it was worded was a trick, and cameras make you nervous.
    They used to do a show called Talking to Americans, where a Canadian would interview Americans on the street with similar questions about Canada. It was hilarious, but a little part of me felt bad for laughing because again, if you ask a trick question and they are under pressure... I can't say I wouldn't look stupid myself.
    Also, I want to have hope for the future.
    Edit: I watched the rest of the video. I am... Struggling to continue to defend them, and I no longer have hope for the future.
