I ran the garret gt2554r when my patrol still ran the rd28t probably can’t call a cheap upgrade I think it cost me about $1200 for the Turbo and a days work to get everything to work had to build a custom waste gate bracket and modify my intercooler piping. If I were to do it again I would look into modifying a (“ variable geometry turbo”/“variable Vane turbo”/“ variable nozzle turbo” ) or whatever name they go by to work. I believe the zd30 patrol ran a good size vgt and you can get them cheap but I’m guessing it wouldn’t be the easiest job but I’ve always have wanted to try 👌
