Using DNR, Contour, Width, and Notch

- I had an opportunity to demonstrate the use of DNR (Digital Noise Reduction), Contour, Width, and Notch, while listening to a rag-chew on 40 meters. These controls can be effectively combined to improve your receiver’s Signal-to-Noise (S/N) ratio, for a much better listening experience.

I learned of your channel from Ham Radio 2.0 channel. This is the kind of content I've been looking for as I have had problems figuring out how to optimize my receive quality on my ftdx-1200. Thank you and I hope you continue to show more content like this!
Welcome to my channel. There are many, many videos that translate to your FTdx1200. The FTdx5000MP, FT-891, and FT-991A videos show many of the same features your radio has. You just access them via different menus/knobs. But the technique is the same. I hope you find my channel helpful, as you view the other videos.

Thanks for the video. Just got the FT-710 had no idea how to use these features properly.
You’re very welcome! I’m glad to see someone who realizes that it pays to watch the videos for the other radios too. I try to avoid showing the same thing twice, just because another radio can do the same thing. My techniques apply to other radios too, not just Ysesu. But some other radios don’t include Contour or APF.

@@n4hnhradio Hi Doug, so far so good here. COVID situation in South Australia is pretty much under control, and mostly Ok in all other States. We get the occasional case outbreak, but not too alarming. Propagation is average. Work has been keeping me very busy, which is a good thing ! Hope you and your family are doing well, and keeping safe too ! Really enjoying your videos of course, and thank you for making them for us all ! Cheers for now, and will be contributing to your channel very soon, Sam, 🇦🇺
@@samscement I’m so glad to hear the good news from down under. I really loved my time in your country. Your people are great friends to us. Thanks for being a part of this channel! When propagation becomes more reliable, perhaps we can have a QSO.

Thanks Doug, watching your video's, I've learned more of my FT-950 than the manual could ever tell me.
I’m glad you found the videos helpful! Thanks for letting me know!

Hey Doug! I just got back into the hobby last Spring after a 20 year hiatus. My most sophisticated rig up till then had been a 940SAT, so I took the leap and bought an FTDX3000 last Summer. It is a terrific radio but I was really behind the curve on all of the DSP features and functionality. The manual was of little help beyond “use this for interference reduction.” This video, along with the IPO/ATT and Block Diagram videos have really given me the PRACTICAL real world working knowledge I needed. Tnx & 73 Tom
I’m so glad you found my videos helpful. As I’ve stated in some of my videos, I hope to help my viewers get the most from whatever radio they own.
The FTdx3000D a very capable radio. It should bring you years of enjoyment. It even has the option to use the optional u-tuning preselectors that work with the 5000. These preselectors can help the FTdx3000D compete with just about any contest class radio.

Thanks my friend 👍🇬🇧
You’re quite welcome, friend! 73, N4HNH
Excellent video!
Thank you very much!
Awesome as usual!
Thanks again!
Interesting sounds good
I think so too!
Thanks for this, this and your previous video on IPO/attenuation are incredibly helpful. I've kind of been just randomly trying combinations of these settings on my FT-891 to see what helps improve receive quality, but this will help me dial in (pun intended) on the best settings.
I’m glad you found the videos helpful, Ryan. There is an entire playlist on my channel dedicated specifically to the FT-891. I encourage you to take advantage of those videos as well.
