Because of the combination of these two things people often think the Dutch are greedy. That’s also why there are so much English sayings about this such as this saying: ‘going Dutch’, which means that at a restaurant everyone will pay for their own and not for someone else. However, the Dutch themselves don’t say they’re greedy, they indeed would rather call themselves frugal.
