    No 2 Form A Gasket - Best stuff ever. My dad turned me onto it, I've used it for over 45 years. It is my go to gasket sealant, except for fuel related items. Fuel will dissolve it, so remember that the next time you are trying to remove some after disassembly

      Carlos Aponte Yes 74 was the last year for the 454 in 75 the biggest engine was the L82 350 and below that L48. The 74 454 and 75 350 make around the same HP big block still makes more torque.

    I’ve heard many horror stories about these off the shelf “refurb” QJets that all the big retailers sell. Internet lore has it that these QJ’s are assembled with completely random parts with no regard to how it’ll run. You’d have better luck rebuilding an original 454 QJ I think... When I refurbed my ‘75 Camaro to get it driveable, I rebuilt the original QJ and it worked well enough. It would hesitate a bit at 4000+ but did fine as a daily driver. I blame a vacuum leak for the hesitation, not the carb FWIW. I never changed a single part on that carb, and I think it did pretty well considering that... To anybody reading this, DO NOT buy a refurb QJet, rebuild an original and save yourself the money!!!

    Thanks! 7:57 You are the only person I have seen address the issue of using the small front and rear gaskets of the intake manifold. It seems weird not to use them, but I guess they are for newer V8 engines. Also Thanks for teh tip on the form-a-gasket. Will certainly do that!

      Edelbrock's installation instructions say not to use the cork or rubber gaskets, but rather to use a 1/4" bead of RTV, exactly as done in this video.

    Your problem was going with an Autozone reman. I didn’t read through the comments but I hope everyone that has a Q-jet listens real good to this. The rebuilding houses for the units Autozone/Advance/Napa are building absolute junk. Anyone that has been into one of those carbs and knows anything about them knows that the metering rods and jets are unique to that particular carb. When these rebuilding houses get ahold of these carbs parts are mixed all around so you have a Frankenstein that is completely mismatched in parts, has no way to accurately meter a fuel mixture and that’s just the beginning of the problems with those things. If you have a complete non molested carb that is appropriate for your application have a competent rebuilder build it. Don’t be a victim of one of those POS carbs.

      I figured that out years ago and found a specialty place that just does Q-Jets and has been a great carb. I needed to get a M4ME for a engine swap with a L69 305 I had in another car. It works like a charm and ready to do quick adjustments.

    • @FuelInjectionSucks
      @FuelInjectionSucks  5 років тому +3

      If you get an Edelbrock get the AVS series. The basic 750 I used here has an un-fixable lean spot right off idle. Turns out it's an issue with the larger (750 and 850 cfm) Performer carbs that Edelbrock won't admit exists, but fixed with the AVS series.

    My 75 gmc has the same choke setup. I've rebuild the quadrajet and it runs great except when the choke is on, it'll idle fine but trying to move until the choke closes results in a loss of power and chugging. Especially noticeable up hill and starting out. I'm gonna check the spring and make sure it's not broke.

      No, that's not the reason. You most likely do not have the TV cable set up properly if you have a 200r4 or 700r4 transmission. If you have a Th350/Th200 then you most likely don't have the vacuum line from the modulator hooked up, or to the wrong port.
