I normally mirror my macbook using apple tv so I can see my students, however lately when doing this, my video quality goes very bad, video and sometimes audio lags. My bandwidth is good. Steve, this is a super introduction to using Zoom, and since I regularly teach groups to use Zoom so we can work together, this 13-minute overview will become part of my pitch. I have a couple of observations that might be of use. 1) I never use Zoom's invitation system to send invitations. I send the invitation to myself (or copy/paste it) and use it to create my own invitation with my email program. This way I have a record of exactly what information each person receives, when it was sent, and who received it. Also, each can easily contact me if there are questions about participation in the Zoom event. 2) A useful feature for larger meeting is that participants can raise their hand to ask to speak. Curiously, a host or co-host does not have this ability. So, you ask, as host why would I want to raise my hand? Often I may host the meeting, but someone else is chairing the event. Usually, in larger meetings, there is also a 3rd co-host who's job is to monitor the chat field and participant list (like your colleague, April) and keep track of the list of people who wish to speak and issues arising in chat in order to advise the chair. So there are 3 of us co-chairs who cannot raise our hand.
Hi Steve, thanks for the Zoom series. I have only a free account and I see some of the Participants actions: Hand up, Yes, No, Faster, Slower. Also, I notice that you mostly speak about Zoom from the POV of the host, which is great for the organisers of meetings. Could we have one please from the participant angle, and maybe some etiquette and tips eg. as meetings get larger, encourage (or request) participants to stay muted unless they are speaking to a topic; tip: have the host running the Zoom side of things separate from the chair of the meeting if possible, to avoid overload.

The problem that I have is want to have all participants ( 1 or 2) be able to broadcast in 1080p and the only way you can do that is to sign up for a business account, but you have to have a min of 10 licenses at 20.00 per license per month so thats $200.00 per month. It would really be nice if they could offer 1080p feeds that did not require 10 licenses.
In the free version (basic), you cannot access REPORTS, which may be necessary for some organizations who want to export participant lists, etc of attendees.
I am missing a function in the free version: I am able to mute everyone automatically at the moment they are joining. But i want the same for the camera. Like all participants are only able to chat. I want that every participant is automatically muted and the camera is off when they join. Is that possible??

I am not sure what you mean, You need a way to send invites, you can create "public" meetings where people can join without registering, if they is what you mean

I was having the same issue then I realized that people weren’t aware that the password is case sensitive. Verify with the people that are having the issues that they are entering the password exactly as provided.

They are similar, but zoom meetings are more interactive, with everyone "in the room" able to video conference, whereas Webinars tend to be leader led presentations with the audience participating only in chat.
personally I don't mind a forty minute cap, some folk can talk too much, not me obviously, i just get straight to the point, say what I've got to say, and i'm done, not point in going into too much detail, or saying things that don't need to be said, or covering topics that aren;'t relevant or etc etc :) thanks for a great video, lots of useful points

Zoom Pro is great for small team and you can host up to 100 participants. Zoom Education can be for up to 300 participants with School & University Branding.

Also, if I am doing a DIY demo can I pop a recording into Zoom and then do live interaction after that? Never tried that so just thought I would ask here. Great video - answers a lot of my questions. I am using the free version - I know how to take a screenshot with save on the annotate bar, when I am screen sharing but how do you take one on Zoom (not through my keypad) when you are not screen sharing .
@@jimremich743 you could request everyone to drop their emails in chat and as host the chat is downloaded to your computer or the cloud. The Registration feature is cleaner though and you can require as much or little info from your potential attendees as you wish.
As an educator, my main reason for choosing paid was to be able to assign co-hosts. This gives other educators that are on the call the ability to privately message students, mute students, admit students into the meeting, and much more!
Can someone explain how the 9 hosts option work for the Pro plan? Is it something similar to the Spotify or Nintendo family accounts where you add your friends' meeting to benefit from the plan?
I expected an option for higher resolution recording through the Pro version of Zoom, but it doesn't seem to have it. I record and edit Zoom sessions for work. Unfortunately the resolution tops out at 720p (the low of high definition). The default seems to be 480p (standard definition), which is not good. It takes a bit of trickery to get it up to 720p. If anyone has figured out how to record at 1080p (what you might call proper high definition), I'd love to know, whether in the Pro of free version of Zoom.
@@oxxjhoxxoo1761 -- Start recording in Gallery View so you see all the participants. Then you can switch to any view you want. Everything recorded from that point on should be in 720p (though I wish it was 1080p). If you begin the recording in Speaker view, Zoom will record at 480p standard definition. You have to start in Gallery View to get the 720p. If you're the host, another trick is to begin recording before anyone joins the session. Everything recorded after that should be in 720p, though I'm not 100% sure about that one. Recording by beginning in Gallery View definitely works, though.
It is available in the free version as well. like signalling yes , No etc.

Before you click on join button, you can check the box, join with out video/audio. It's your choice, both are available.

It's best to rely on ethernet cable than plain WiFi, while livestreaming.

What about streaming to Facebook? When I first started paying I was able to but not now and they won’t give you tech support for the pro plan because of the pandemic

I need to host a meeting with over 300participants. The only option is the Enterprise account. Help me understand the pricing where they say starting at 100hosts at $1,999 Does it mean I need to pay that amount to get the subscription or can I just pay $19.99 for the subscription and only have one host for the meeting.
I think you can pay the lower price for just one host, as long as you don’t need to have multiple people delivering meetings
may be you can try to purchase pro version with add-ons large meeting option.

I have two questions about Zoom basic:
1. How do I save to my computer? I cannot find the save tab to save my life after 3 days of looking. It does not appear on the bottom ribbon.
2. Once I save to my computer, can I make a video from the saved file?

I am trying to remember the term for having a "co-host" on the paid version and what they can do. This is when the main host has to leave. Being able to help people un mute microphone and turn video on. Last being able to EJECT rude family member(s) Thanks!

Hi, We are trying Zoom for online dance classes, and I need your help please! Zoom gives me an ID number and a password for a meeting. But sometimes the password doesn't work for some people, but works for others. How can I fix this? Thanks so much!!!
I was having the same issue then I realized that people weren’t aware that the password is case sensitive. Verify with the people that are having the issues that they are entering the password exactly as provided.

They are similar, but zoom meetings are more interactive, with everyone "in the room" able to video conference, whereas Webinars tend to be leader led presentations with the audience participating only in chat.
The feature making a poll, I don't see this in my free version, I wanted to use it but I guess it is only in the paid version

personally I don't mind a forty minute cap, some folk can talk too much, not me obviously, i just get straight to the point, say what I've got to say, and i'm done, not point in going into too much detail, or saying things that don't need to be said, or covering topics that aren;'t relevant or etc etc :)

Zoom Pro is great for small team and you can host up to 100 participants. Zoom Education can be for up to 300 participants with School & University Branding.

Also, if I am doing a DIY demo can I pop a recording into Zoom and then do live interaction after that? Never tried that so just thought I would ask here.

I'm a long time user of Zoom... one of those early adopter types. I went to Zoom when Microsoft bought Skype and complicated it, basically ruining it.
You can insert a video in Zoom, but instead of uploading it to a host(like UA-cam) as you do in Demio, you stream it from your computer.
What a nice video that I even watch twice to improve my English listening.
I notice that the streaming option doesn't seem to be available in the unpaid option but is available for the pro option upwards. Am I correct in this?

If you have the paid version, you can require that your participants register to get the link. This will give you an email list..
Steve may have a better way. I have use Screen Shot to do it
@@jimremich743 you could request everyone to drop their emails in chat and as host the chat is downloaded to your computer or the cloud. The Registration feature is cleaner though and you can require as much or little info from your potential attendees as you wish.
You forgot to mention that the paid version has the polling feature whereas the free version doesn't. I love your videos!
That's true, I have the free version and the Poll bottom does not appear in settings
Polling is just that - you can poll (ask a question of) your views and they can “vote” their response. The responses are then tallied and “graphed.”
Teachers can do a lot with that polling feature

As an educator, my main reason for choosing paid was to be able to assign co-hosts. This gives other educators that are on the call the ability to privately message students, mute students, admit students into the meeting, and much more!

Can someone explain how the 9 hosts option work for the Pro plan? Is it something similar to the Spotify or Nintendo family accounts where you add your friends' meeting to benefit from the plan?
Thanks for the video. Very helpful. However, I don't see the option for Telephone call-in in my basic (free) plan settings.
I expected an option for higher resolution recording through the Pro version of Zoom, but it doesn't seem to have it.
I record and edit Zoom sessions for work. Unfortunately the resolution tops out at 720p (the low of high definition). The default seems to be 480p (standard definition), which is not good. It takes a bit of trickery to get it up to 720p.
If anyone has figured out how to record at 1080p (what you might call proper high definition), I'd love to know, whether in the Pro of free version of Zoom.

@@oxxjhoxxoo1761 -- Start recording in Gallery View so you see all the participants. Then you can switch to any view you want. Everything recorded from that point on should be in 720p (though I wish it was 1080p). If you begin the recording in Speaker view, Zoom will record at 480p standard definition. You have to start in Gallery View to get the 720p. If you're the host, another trick is to begin recording before anyone joins the session. Everything recorded after that should be in 720p, though I'm not 100% sure about that one. Recording by beginning in Gallery View definitely works, though.
