I like this, reminds me how the old valve tech was wired before pcbs were used, its olschool wirring, simple and works great, also can be used as a low voltage meter... great work either way really liked this simple build well done 👍👍👍
And the caps should be orientated either backwards or flat to put the lights (meter) in a practical location where it can be seen and enjoyed. Like in car audio (the dashboard) or a home stereo.

Hello Friend. first I want to congratulate you on the projects, I've already watched a good part of your videos. If you can, could you tell me about VUmeter? requires minimum power? I want to use it in a project that has a very low power less than 1Watt. It will work ?
Very good tutorial, excellent vu meter without plate, my question would be how to put a potentiometer to regulate the sensitivity and how to make it electrical so that it works with led strips?
You'd need a transistor for each LED strip, and a separate power source. The transistor base would be connected to the plus pin (anode) of the LED through a 1k resistor. To power the LED strips from the wall, you can use thyristors controlled by optocouplers.
Hi. Nice job you did but I want to ask how much power it can handle or can you explain for each diode can be like from here is 10 wats from here to here is 20 wats etc... or can you make form for like 4 ohm speaker 100 wats amplifier? Thanks.
Thank you for a great video. I would like to know if it would work if I put 10 more LEDs so there would be 4 at each point. I plan to use a 20 watt amp to run 4 of these. One in each corner of the room where our kids hang out with their friends. Space the LEDs apart and put them in white plastic pipes. The kids like to gather at our house so I will fix it up for the new years. God bless.
So as far as the electrolytic capacitors go.... Is the favlue really Important? Like let's say I only had 470uf or 47uf...how crucial is that value and what role does it play in the circuit? I wanna start building modulation meters for my rf amplifiers but I wanna know a little more about this circuit before I include this in my options. Any help is appreciated
I honestly don't think you need it. Fairly sure they are doing some sort of filtering. You also don't even need the rectifier if you are using a biased signal, or really any audio signal above 60Hz. Since the human eye can't really see changes quick enough above 60Hz (where most audible frequencies are 20Hz - 20kHz, so close enough), we can probably simplify this circuit to only be the LEDs, audio input, and resistors. I built this circuit without them and using 3.5mm headphone jack as input and it was fine. Note that I am not using amplified speaker level as input!!
Not really.... An IC - Integrated Circuit - consists of miniaturised electronic components in one form factor 'chip'- not just transistors, but other components too - resistors, caps, diodes and not several, but hundreds or more, of transistors. A chip containing just transistors would be a - 'transistor array'.
This guy is connecting the zeners in direct polarisation. So only drop 0.7v each one. This project is simply absurd. But the ignorants in electronics (not me) claims that this is good.
No... because what is happening is that the diodes thats goes upward with the LEDs has a voltage requirement so therefore if you want to hit the white more often you increase the volume if you want to barely hit the red... decrease the volume till that happens... You need smarter components so that it can auto gain the output for the different volume inputs.
en caso se hacer varios. como hago para que capte frecuencias mas bajas o mas altas. tengo que ir variando de capacitor in case there are several. How do I get it to pick up lower or higher frequencies? Do I have to vary the capacitor?
Hey man, good night, I really liked the vu led, I would like to buy one made, you sell one for me...I want it with 4 red 3 yellow and 3 green LEDs okay...
How could you help me, I did that same circuit but it doesn't turn on all the LEDs, it only turns on one. Near the capacitor my capacitors are 25V at 470 uf and my resistors are 56 OHM and my LEDs are white, what can I do and my horns 40W and 9ohms
@@lee68 yes but you need an audio amplifier, for lighting up the last led, you will need ~10v( 0.7v *10 +3v), audio output from a mobile phone is ~200mV (this means the video is fake but the circuit may work with an audio amp)
Simple ... Top amazing ..👍👍🙏

Matchetto yes,

please explain why using zener diodes, i see they are forward biased so why not use simple diodes ?
He can also put only the LEDs in series because also LEDs have a voltage drop
Interesting I will try to make the circuit thanks for the information greetings from Piura Peru

very very clean and good uv meter, thanks for it man
As an added bonus, this same circuit could be used as a Low Voltage volt meter. ;-)
Has different voltage drop.
Thank you so much American tech♥️♥️♥️♥️🔥🔥🔥

Wow,,,,,,thank you for a very clear tutorial
VU meter ko banane ke bad kya use directly amplifier me speaker ke satha chalayenge kya?
Aur ye 6000w ke Amplifire me kharab thodi hoga?
no need to use zener diodes here.
the circuit works/use due Voltage doubler at input
You are right it could be any diode with a normal voltages drop. The design works because each diode is cutting out about .7v.
I made and its working

Bello !
I would put the leds in the opposite order, and the capacitor should go to the back.

very nice project...i replicated it too but i need highr sensitivity... how i can make this more sensible cuz i am using it on a smaller speaker

Beautiful led play musik.
Very nice and simple video, sir agar zayada LED lagani ho to bhi capacitor ki yahi value rahegi?

If i want to have a slow response, so leds on off more slowly, can i do this by changing capacitors value?
Good question, did you tried this? Any results?
No you would have 2 add caps in parallel with leds to slow it.
Nice project awesome😁😁
20 V zeners x 10 you need to put 200 V to light up that last LED?
No, the diode drop voltage is ~0.7v
So it means that we can use 1N 4148 diode, right?

Puedo usar capacitores de 50v a 100uF?

if I want to make it with 20 LED lights do I just add another ten resistors and ten diodes?
