Why does he keep saying brahmins are the oppressing caste. He gets it totally wrong. Brahmins are like 2% of the population. They go by merits be it studies or otherwise unlike many other castes.
In fact brahmins are the community which has been oppressed lot for quite sometime.
I just don't understand what he is trying to say .
Fine if carnaric music is for brahmins and upper caste. Why does he have a problem. Everyone has their own things ..let brahmin have carnatic music..so what...why is he trying to even take that away..

He does these things for political popularity, nothing else. He wants to stand out. Brahmins have never discriminated. When brahmins have reserved their human right to whom they want to mix with its interpreted as discrimination, while Brahmins have never indulged in real discrimination such as depriving others of food, shelter, causing physical harm, violence or murder of members of other communities. Some individuals who feel jealous of purohits and Hindu priests for the respect they get start this propoganda of discrimination and PPL like TMK use it for popularity and awards.

It is new and significant view coming from a person from the field of music. It is to be listened to and valued rightly.
People from other fields have voiced similar views at different times and places.
It is now time to recollect and consolidate such views. One such effort was made by none other than H.H.Sri Sri Ravishankar by publishing a booklet titled "Those Who Stood by the Dalits". Yes, that was from the perspective of spirituality. There was also an article by
Prof. N.Mannathukkaaran in The Hindu, a few years ago.
There are views from many perspectives. It is time that all of them are honestly studied, thought about and acted upon sincerely for good of all. In the process one may get to know how a Gopala Swamy happened to be called 'panchama Gopalaswami' and why O.V.Krishnamurthy got President of India Award for Best Head Master. Like them so many more would be there, now forgotten by the beneficiaries as well as their own community.
    TMK is prompting such move.

No one has stopped non Brahmins from taking up classical music… just trying to target Brahmins is really wrong. Every time making Brahmins the culprit is so cheap. This shows the fundamental distance he maintains from understanding the culture.

First of all there is no glamour for carnatic music in other communities so, they are not coming . Is it brahmins fault???? Every community is deprived in different ways. When the many foreigners invaded India the vibrant communities in India lost their identity due to brutality imposed on them. Up and down the spectrum communities were deprived of self respect. This has continued in some form or the other to this day. It is going to take centuries to overcome trauma the brutal foreign rule imposed on India. The British sowed the seeds of hate by divide and rule policies.
To claim that the upper caste is depriving the lower castes of opportunities in some art forms is not accurate. Not everyone is interested in classical music.
Today many non-Hindus who have more privileges than the Hindus are playing the victim card falsely. Currently Hindus are being oppressed by other communities. Why is this not mentioned in the discussion ?
This is not a balanced discussion. There is a gaping hole.

not sure what this guy is trying to say or do ; how many poor (so called) dalits have been taken in by him into his music school and reshaped those potential young ones into a fine musician? One thing is clear-he loves to hear himself. He is very condescending .
Let me suggest that he recruits three top students of the Govt music college and tutor them to become fine music vidwans , that is better than activistic talking.

I heard and read online that many of the current Muslim musicians of North were converted Brahmins. One glaring example is Tansen. Surprised why a very knowledgeable person like TMK didn’t even mention this possibility in the discussion of inclusivity in Hindustani music

While there's some truth to What Krishna is saying, it's a bit exaggerated. The stuff he's saying about lack of opportunities is true a few decades ago, not now. Also several of the opinions he expressed are simply false. The reason Muslim Hindustani vocalists have reduced has nothing to do with Hindu elitism. It's inside pressure from Muslim community which has moved towards Wahabi mentality and trying to sever connections from anything that's remotely un-Islamic. Lastly, his opinion that Modi's nationalism is Hindu upper caste elitism in disguise is patently false. Not only there's ample proof from his appointments, but also it's impossible to govern anything in vibrant democracy like India without including all the castes.

This man is a pure nuisance to music lovers. Unnecessarily bringing in caste and all sundries. Pray who is playing the instrument Nadhaswaram? Many from all caste, why even from other religion and country too are singing both carnatic and hindustani music beautifully.
Asking to allow the parai to be played in December music season and singing raagas made specifically in the name of Hindu gods, combining it with other religion gods and claming secular is pure madness.
To top it all blabbering that cow's, rather it is buffalo and also only dead one's skin is used for mirdhangam and tabla, and questioning how can people use these instrument and at the same talk against their slaughter is the high of ignorance and idiocracy.
Seeing some of his interview to know what he is trying to say, irritates people to the maximum extent.
Unfortunately, in TN, those people who do not even know the basis and basics of music but who are staunch followers of periyar and anti Brahmins, all claiming to be so modern!!!.
    Pathetic.
There are someting which are done only in certain place and time. Parai is played when a person passes away and nadaswaram in marriage, temples and other religious functions. We sleep in bed room and cook in kitchen. Everything has a place and time in which it had to be done.
Yes many will start to scold me but i am happy with my views and do not want this man to mingle and create confussion in a peaceful music which gives solace to mind.
Now you people can start your music of scolding me.

Don't know what world this guy lives in. I have never experienced privilege because I'm upper caste. In fact the opposite, I have only been ridiculed and hated upon. In temples and music classes, my uppercaste has never opened any doors, only money let's you jump the queue. If this guy got a guru or got bookings in some hall it's because of who he knows, not because he is brahmin. So the privilege he is taking about comes from his elite family and their pull, not because he is a poor brahmin. Who you know is a networking skill present the world over, nothing to do with caste.
Uppercaste are not the sole owners of carnatic music, this guy is delusional, music is so divine there is an audience of uppercaste ready to listen to anyone singing carnatic sangeetham from the heart. No one commands respect and houseful shows like K J Jesudas. This guy is some brainwashed pampered fellow who has been made to believe he has a market in stirring up caste in this industry. Some people just like to feel like mini Nelson Mandelas but in reality they are probably lacking success and are looking for some desperate glory.
Abolish the reservation system, make all government jobs and education based on pure merit and give reservation to the poor, regardless of caste. Make it truly equal, and then if caste discrimination still exists then we can start talking about upper castes needing to listen. Chumma don't moan and groan on some imaginary oppression.

    • @ralphczukay1390
      @ralphczukay1390 2 роки тому +2

You say you have been ridiculed and hated upon for being upper caste, which sounds very much like reverse oppression. This might be true, but then you contradict yourself in the last line by saying "don't moan and groan about imagined oppression". So is the ridicule you have faced imagined too, or does that somehow get the distinction of being *real*? If so, why?
You call for abolishing the reservation system, but you are not willing to forego your upper-caste identity? How does that work?
The day that Brahmins can actually *see* that there is no difference between persons of lower and upper caste, and that they are essentially just as ordinary as the next person irrespective of their caste, the reservation system will naturally come to an end. The day that brahmins see through the delusions of caste-based beliefs that have been handed down to them, and do not care to even know the caste of whoever it is their sons or daughters are getting married to - the oppressed feeling of the lower castes will come to its natural end.
In other words, until you - in your own mind - express doubt in your own identity as a brahmin and are willing to explore who you really are, have no business expecting others to do so.

Wow, you have talked a lot and still managed to say very little. I think I can sum up your point by saying, "the oppression of lower castes is imagined, whereas that of the upper caste (including gaslighting & being force-fed ideologies) is real". Well done.
Okay, let us assume you are right. Our community is the only community in the world that is oppressed (lol). Answer this first: is there any *real* difference between a so-called lower caste and a so-called upper caste person? If so, what is it that distinguishes the two? And is this distinction by birth?
In other words, is the caste itself an imaginary concept? Or does it have any roots in a reality beyond a socially and culturally accepted premise?

Just because some tambrams around him were talking big doesn't mean that is the reality of the world. One can get fame or notoriety through use or miduse of one's powers of creating art or intellectual or spiritual revolution (excuse my big wirds). But one must choose between the two without loding sight of sense due to an emotion driving toward dubious fame.
TMK should try and speak sense , and also make it constructiv. To do thst he should first extricate himself from his own peevish world of uninformed thinking so that he can at least define his territory and stay within its boundary limits.
