Big thanks Oscar I'd done the relay and got the roll bar moving then watched your video and read your comment, my fuses were missing too, still wouldn't work then manually put it down like you said, must have loosened it tried the button to put it back up it worked, and now works fine, so amazing your awesome thankyou very much
The video is free, common sense... Priceless! As I mentioned in the video it requires 2 hands to do the job. But if I mutate a third limb anytime soon I'll surely update the video.
+Oscar Jimenez I have a 2002 softtop 430 CLK, it does not close fully, stops only 4 inch to the wind shield, where are you located, what do you thing the issue is?
Oh my god you guys are going to laugh at my ass. I feel so stupid. After many months of trying to figure this out swapping modules buying a new relay and now a new switch for the center console I figured it out. Somewhere between the previous owner and the dealer that sold me this car, someone pulled out fuse number 15 in the engine compartment. However it was still my fault because I checked the fuses before I started any troubleshooting. Just today I decided to give it one more shot since the new switch did not work and I reviewed the fuse layout and figured out that fuse number 15 was missing once I put the fuse in guess what my top works now.
Oscar, my top also stopped working, but it would not close all the way - the rear latch would not function. Your video helped me figure out how to get my trunk open. That was important because my laptop with my M-B factory workshop manual in it was in the trunk. Thanks!
Thank you so much dude, im having and have had problems with my clk roof. either not closing or not opening. no one has ever shown or told me how to close the roof manually. awesome info, i'll worry about fixing it later :-) Thank you for posting this video !!
Hi Oscar, great video. I was wondering if you might be able to help us figure out a solution to our problem. We thought we followed your directions but once the top was lowered we tried to raise it with no success. My husband then realized he forgot to release the hydraulic pressure. Can you give us any direction or hope? We would so appreciate it.
I hv a 2000 convertible clk320.....my little red indicator lamp cracked so I bought another from Amazon....my dealership replaced it but now it doesnt blink at all nor can I let the top down.....does it need some type of recoding?
Hey Oscar thanks for taking the time for the video! It is great! So I went out and opened it manually then closed it but I popped the trunk before the process and closed it mid way by accident and now for what ever reason I cannot open the trunk through remote or by button by cup holder.. Extremely strenuous since now I cannot use the Allen wrench to tighten the rear of the top and the cars convertible button flashes all the time while makes noise!! Any input or recommendation is highly appreciated. I am thinking I will have no choice but to remove the rear seat. I never have had any issues with the trunk.
Are all the latch points back to normal? In other words is the car back to normal? was anything left open? Im thinking you did not entirely close the latch at the rear of the soft top. Do you still have the key that is fitted in the remote fob? Go back to my video and see how to open the rear trunk manually using the remote key. Then use the 6mm wrench and confirm that you have fully closed the rear of the soft top, it can fool you at times. This happened to me before. That will keep your trunk from poping with the remote becuase it thinks the soft top is open this is why youre getting the flashing light at the switch. Once all has been secured/closed try starting the car and leave it for a few seconds actually as long as your car is in park you should be able to pop the trunk from the console sw. Keep us posted.
Oscar Jimenez Big thanks for taking the time for response! Exactly right! Not having the end of the top latched in correctly causes the trunk to only be opened by the key manually! I thought I was going to break the key since it was not used for years and would not want to turn.. finally it turned and that great feeling of relief!
Once you release the pressure and unlock the latch to pull up the compartment door you go inside and unlock the soft top lock from the inside with the special key and you'll be able to lift it with one hand you'll be so soo soft some people don't even mind bringing it up and down manually and forget about fixing it because it's cheaper just more manual labor that's all I did it for a whole year no one noticed
Thanks for making the video. Do you still have the car and is it working. The failure rate of these tops seems to be very high. Someone gave me a 99 just like yours. It's a "sunny day' toy for me. I'm thinking about just opening and closing manually since I've had the top repaired once and it is malfunctioning again. Do you think that is a viable option. Also, like one of the persons below, the back latch on my soft top is not completely closed, so the car thinks it is "open" and won't allow the truck to open. Are you saying the key should allow me to open it manually? Thanks again!
Doing it manually may not be so bad. I live in California and don't really like the top down on very hot days which is most of the time. However having it work properly is just an awesome feeling too cuss you don't get lazy to put the top down when you want and believe me. When it's working you'll use it more than you think. Also the 2 most expensive items are the top and the motor for the top. If those 2 are OK the rest is relatively cheap to fix you just need to know what's failing. So if you'd like try sending me you're issue.
No reason not to if it's a nice car and that's the only issue. 95% of top issues are pretty easy to fix yourself, it just sometimes takes a while to find the problem, but if you go over it, you'll find it, there just isn't that much that goes wrong, it's just that it takes a paid Mechanic to long to find it, and it's not worth the time or money to them.. I can normally spend a Saturday screwing around and looking, sometimes two Saturdays, but I always find the problem..

I think I have a soft top module problem. Becuase my soft top button in the center console does not blink for any reason at all. My understanding is that this button should blink even when there is a fault depending the blinking tells you more less what is wrong. Also my pasanger nor my driver windows lower at all when I open the doors. Its my understanding that they should so that the weather stirp does not get pinched. thanks for this video - and you mean people suck! have a problem: can't get the top to go down. the roller flap thing (luggage thing) became detached from the panel and snapped back. was it glued on? should it be open or closed? should i try to gorilla glue it? hard to reach in there for me. To manual release it never unlock it from the front always unlock the back first with the special key wrench the car comes with. Reason why the car is sync has a order by you doing how you doing it now your confusing the computer. To be able to open it you need to first release the pressure in the white cone in the middle of the pump.then the pump will loosen the Hydraulic pressure once you done that then you could unlock the front and then lift the back lid where the rag hides and need 2 people to evenly push the rag in. To make work you need to stick a 8mm long or 10mm long socket or anything that could hold the switch on the inside of the rail in order to make it work. That tell the computer every thing is closed and ready to open try it. Look at my video if your lost I show it.
I know this is slow in coming but I don't have lots of time in day to troubleshoot my top. So yesterday I finally got around to the next step. I went to the MBZ stealership and picked up the relay mounted next to the hydraulic pump (folding control relay) $24. But no luck then I went to the salavage yards looking for the Soft Top Control module and the places were nice enough to let me try before I paid. The first module had no functionality at all and the second module had the identical function as mine (some clicking of components but still not opening my top). Keep in mind about 2 mos. Ago a local shop said it was my module and wanted $650 for the jon. This time the salvage guys refered me to their local guy and after a diagnosis he tells me that it will take more time to troubleshoot but that the problem starts at the switch not the module somehow there is a loss of 12v to the module possibly a short. I went home and pulled out my switch in the center console I tested the switch and found 12v coming in. However when I took apart the switch and checked it with the meter only one of the two triggers inside had continuity. I think this is my problem. If you guys remember I did mention that my switch never lights up. Some of you guys mention that the switch blinks on yours we'll not mine so I'll find out later today if I can find one. Maybe the next message will be that my top is working... Whaaaa whaaaa this sucks
Very Gd illusration, i have Similar Problems with the Leak i must fix before attempting to ge Headrest Down, Ithink You Could Replace that Relay Fuse or ck Computer Top Module to Right. Thk again"
There is no need to "notch" the valve body. A thin jewelers screwdriver can get behind the lock ring by gently tapping the screwdriver with a small hammer. Which then allows you to disassemble the valve easily. Getting a dremel anywhere near the piston shaft and your buying a new 300$ valve.
Check the battery negative wire, where it connects to the body or frame. Take it off and clean it with a piece of sand paper. This is the solution for most Mercedes electrical problems. Thanks. G.
You don't need to remove any of your panels everything is very easy to access. The only reason why my interior trunk trim panels were removed in my video because I was working on the latches. If there are 2 of you it takes about 5 mins... knowing the procedure. Let me know if you get stuck.
+Oscar Jimenez i dont want to sound stupid but you cant access the stuff to do this without taking all the panels off, and it looks tough to do and get back on?
+Stephen Roe Don't get caught up on what my trunk shows because when I did the video I happen to be working on something else. All you need to do is remove the key from your FOB stick it in the trunk key hole turn left and push. That will open your trunk then lift, look underneath the top area of your inner trunk compartment. Look for an access hole it's about 1in by 1in square cut out flap (part of the interior trunk panel material). That's where you will stick the hex wrench I show in the video. Just keep in mind that Mercedes designed this procedure to be as easy as possible so no panels need to be removed, my video might just seem more intricate because of the nature of the work that I was doing. Let me know if this helps
@@Realtoroscarjimenez Hey buddy I really hope your still active on youtube and could give me a pointer or two, Im having trouble getting my top to come back out after manually opening and closing it. I just got the car and didn’t think i’d have a problem opening it back up as i at thought point knew now how to open it maunally.
You don't need 2 people if you do it's bc haven't released the pressure from the release valve in the middle with the white cover if you haven't done that it's going to be so hard you need to people but in actuality it's only one person could do it and the reason your top is not going up-and-down is because whatever you took apart to get to it there's a on and off switch when you put the cover in it it tells the computer that it's ready to open that switch is on the right-hand side of the truck you will have to stick a 10 mm long deep socket there to hold it and trick the computer to open because you're missing the coverthat goes into the truck looks like a clip almost you stick your socket in there and leave it in there so the computer could know it's ready to open once you close the trunk lid
Mine did the same thing, I replaced the relay that's located by the hydraulic pump fluid Reservoir and where all the wires attach. I only paid $15. at BAP Geon
+Forrest Cole Hi there my clk started with boot release problems top still working then top wouldn't complete close cycle. I tried a few times and eventually it closed but hood wouldn't lock shut. Then by touching headrest button it closed. Now it wont open. windows go down but that's it. I have checked fluid level ok headrests go up and down had a friendly mechanic do diagnostics which said I have error code b1650-001 which points to fuse 13 which was ok. He said to test relay next but I am concerned about access also how do you unplug roof computer and reconnect?
Hi martyn. When my relay went bad i got an f19 fault( i think) i looked it up at that time and the code said no power to relay. Its a pain to gain access to any of the roof components you will need to remove the velt cover and the metal plate, I've never put mine back in because every time i did in the past something else would go wrong. As for the relay you can take the old one to autozone and match it up with one of theres it cost about $15. As for computer just pull the metal clip thats around the connector and you will see it start to unplug the connector from the computer. Wait 30 seconds and plug it back in.
the lash in the back of the head rest is also needs change always together with the top rear lash that you already fixed. also check your fuses. if you need more help let me know, may be i should upload hot to fix it on video let me know how it when. but also clean you convertible top liquid. and when closing the top make sure everything is extremely close so the pump can flush the air out
Incase anyone is interested I have a trunk Roller shade (only) in mint condition you'll just need to reuse your own end cap/roller shade holder. Just pay me for shipping.
Oscar Jimenez The roller shade when it sits in the track it's what tells the computer it's ready to open I was explaining to the guy who made this video if you don't put that piece on the computer will never know it's ready to open so I used to put a 10 mm long socket in the track on the right-hand side to be able to open it electronically and Trickett because I didn't have that part that you're selling
I only did one relay the one by the hydraulic pump I didn't have a part number I just called BAP Geon and told them the year and make of my car I also had to rebuild the same last four cylinder for the latch as in this video I didn't have to drill a hole I just used a screwdriver to pop the clutch out of the cylinder and used in a ring Currently my roof is inoperable same thing is in the video it won't move up or down 2 weeks ago I went to Florida and it went down and then it wouldn't go back up still waiting to see if its just the relay I'm testing it tonight
I own a 2002 CLK 430. I have never used the automatic top. It is EASY to put the top up and down manually. If you are going to make a video about this why not be prepared to actually do the procedure? I mean come on, it's not a big deal if you know what to do.
pierre khalife To put the top back up Start by making sure all windows are down then releasing the latch behind the rear seat head rest this will allow you to pull the top up and forward all the way so that you can close the soft top lid. Do not lock the soft top to the windshield yet First lock the rear of the top by pressing down on the very rear end of your soft top right over the trunk then go in the trunk area and lock rear of the top with Hex or Allen wrench as in the video. Now you should be able to lock the front of the top on to the windshield
oscar I might be interested in these. My soft top just falls down when I try to get it to open instead of bending upward. Do you still have these? Aren't they what that is for? contact me at flavorfav@sbcglobal.net.

If you guys remember I did mention that my switch never lights up. Some of you guys mention that the switch blinks on yours we'll not mine so I'll find out later today if I can find one. Maybe the next message will be that my top is working... Whaaaa whaaaa this sucks
will this work if the roll bars have been deployed, that is my problem
Very Gd illusration, i have Similar Problems with the Leak i must fix before attempting to ge Headrest Down, Ithink You Could Replace that Relay Fuse or ck Computer Top Module to Right. Thk again"
We're you able to fix your top?
Just saw your message sorry
I did, I fixed it and still working today.
Jimez i guess you jumped a part in the opening from front
How do you close it back? My 2002 won't close all the way. The latch won't close all the way.
Rodolfo Pring did u figure how to? Mines does same
Use the tool or wrench the othervway
Check the battery negative wire, where it connects to the body or frame.
Take it off and clean it with a piece of sand paper.
This is the solution for most Mercedes electrical problems.
Thanks.
G.
how did you take apart the trunk to get to the parts to manually open the top?
You don't need to remove any of your panels everything is very easy to access. The only reason why my interior trunk trim panels were removed in my video because I was working on the latches. If there are 2 of you it takes about 5 mins... knowing the procedure. Let me know if you get stuck.
+Oscar Jimenez i dont want to sound stupid but you cant access the stuff to do this without taking all the panels off, and it looks tough to do and get back on?
+Stephen Roe
Don't get caught up on what my trunk shows because when I did the video I happen to be working on something else.
If ypu dont have presure....the compresor is not working..then module...then close soft top sensor
Mine did the same thing, I replaced the relay that's located by the hydraulic pump fluid Reservoir and where all the wires attach. I only paid $15. at BAP Geon
You did 1 realy or 2? Do you still have the part number? Its worth a try.
My roof stopped working again this year I tested my relay and it was good, then I unplugged the computer for the roof and now its working again.
Hi Martyn,
It is very difficult to troubleshoot by yourself also make sure to disconnect the battery first.
6 mm allen wrench to release soft top rear, turn left
Mine won't engage the lock on the back lid. it remains open.
You have to unplug the roof vdo computer. If that aint working replace the relaigh whats also there
Did u bleed the system
Hi
No bleeding it works great
thanks, so much
Ok but once your done fixing it how to set it back to automatic😅
the lash in the back of the head rest is also needs change always together with the top rear lash that you already fixed. also check your fuses. if you need more help let me know, may be i should upload hot to fix it on video let me know how it when. but also clean you convertible top liquid. and when closing the top make sure everything is extremely close so the pump can flush the air out
HELLO KEVIN SOUNDS LIKE YOU CAN FIX THIS PROBLEM I HAVE WITH MY 1999 CLK CONV IF YOU CAN EMAIL ME CHUCKY11660@HOTMAIL.COM
what fuse are you taking about? I think you should do the video.
I have the part still, if you need it -good condition too. Its free just pay the shipping fee. Let me know if you want it...
could you show how to attach it? can i contact you (email or text or phone) puleeeeze?
Sure
I'll call you later
I only did one relay the one by the hydraulic pump I didn't have a part number I just called BAP Geon and told them the year and make of my car
I also had to rebuild the same last four cylinder for the latch as in this video I didn't have to drill a hole I just used a screwdriver to pop the clutch out of the cylinder and used in a ring
Currently my roof is inoperable same thing is in the video it won't move up or down 2 weeks ago I went to Florida and it went down and then it wouldn't go back up still waiting to see if its just the relay I'm testing it tonight
If my button broken how could I do it
And it's a lot easier if you have the Mercedes special tool
mine didnt latch all the way where the window is how do close it
I just saw your message today sorry. Im sure you fixed it by now.
I own a 2002 CLK 430. I have never used the automatic top. It is EASY to put the top up and down manually. If you are going to make a video about this why not be prepared to actually do the procedure? I mean come on, it's not a big deal if you know what to do.
how to close it back manually please
pierre khalife
To put the top back up
Start by making sure all windows are down then releasing the latch behind the rear seat head rest
this will allow you to pull the top up and forward all the way so that you can close the soft top lid.
Do not lock the soft top to the windshield yet
First lock the rear of the top by pressing down on the very rear end of your soft top right over the trunk then go in the trunk area and lock rear of the top with Hex or Allen wrench as in the video.
Now you should be able to lock the front of the top on to the windshield
ua-cam.com/video/aRENxUW3cfA/v-deo.html
mind went down ok, but now it wont go up.. always some thing
Without your partition on and closed you will not be able to operate the top.
I have a new set of H & R lowering springs ISO 9001 certified. Item # 29749-4. For sale $240 still in the box.
oscar I might be interested in these. My soft top just falls down when I try to get it to open instead of bending upward. Do you still have these? Aren't they what that is for? contact me at flavorfav@sbcglobal.net.
You title the video how to manually lower the top, but don't show us you manually lowering the top. This is a ridiculous video. 🤮🤮🤮
