- After 4 months with this handbrake from a new and unknown Vietnamese company, I'm delighted to finally share my thoughts with you. I really tried to find fault in this product and having vast real life drifting experience in many different cars, it was going to be difficult for VNM to live up to their bold claims of being better than Fanatect.
What they've done isn't just 'wipe the floor' with the Fanatec handbrake, I think they've set the benchmark for what a high end handbrake should be...

They said they would send me one when I spoke with them at the expo but I have emailed them and not gotten any response at all, which is a shame.
Thanks for the review, just ordered a 1.5 after my 5th Fanatec failed and I had enough. Fingers crossed, these are more reliable.

I own this handbrake and I gotta say, this outclasses the Fanatec handbrake by a long margin!! It's sturdy, well built and doesn't have any problem with forces...
This was bought after seeing your first impressions video, and it was a more than a replacement for the Fanatec handbrake; it was an improvement!

Yeah most people who own a handbrake on a sim don’t really use them much or understand how they work. It’s nobody’s fault but it’s something that sims don’t punish properly

Thanks for this great find! Loadcell breakpedal was a gamechanger for me, this could be just as big! I see you play on a slick 3-monitor setup, so I wonder if you still use VR for simming? (saw you last VR vid for DirtRaly 2.0)
I used VR for a long time yeah. The main reason for screens is for content creation and streaming. If I didn’t have a UA-cam channel I would race in VR

Hi Lawrence love the videos. I own both and the vnm with upgraded kit feels waaaaay better then heusinkveld hand brake. Vnm has a more progressive feel and has a better feel on hand.

Good review ! About to order it … Do I need any special attachments to mount it on Trak racer TR160 rig ?
an extra piece of profile and some 90 degree brackets will probably help but it really depends where you're gonna mount it
its worth noting the bjracing loadcell handbrake is also available and currently on sale on bjracing for 165 euro but it does seem to have limited adjustment vs the HE or VNM with upgrade kit... but does have a 200kg loadcell over the vnm's 100kg.... just thought worth mentioning.

Hey there Nathan. VNM Simulation's staff here. From this month on we will be swapping out the 100kg load cell on the handbrake for a 200kg load cell. You're the first in the world to know ;)
For a moment I thought you have a motion rig but I realised it's your RCC Seat flexing :) How do you like the seat? Does the flex bother you while braking? Is it comfortable enough?
I do have a seat mover ;)
But that seat mover had significant flex. The seat has a little flex up high but your braking force should concentrate itself around your core

I can't find enough reviews from the big boys in sim racing reviewers like you on it, all the small ones I found so far are still saying good things about it. And I feel like it might be slightly more adjustable and has more mounting options than the VNM.
Would love to see you do a comparison between this and the SG racing handbrake
I’ve never used it. If you want specific reviews of products, the most effective thing to do to make it a reality is to ask the company directly if they would like to send me one for review. Unfortunately I can’t afford to buy every product I want to review :p

I plan on buying a NLR Wheel Stand 2.0 and I fear this HB might be too heavy for the bracket they provide, I know you don't probably know any of that but should I still go with this or get the fanatec?
Also this HB is 100 euro more for me than the fanatec one so I take that into consideration too. 209 + shipping.
I forgot to ask is there any way to replace the lever of the handbrake? Also does this thing make any noise.

Sorry for the delay with my answer! This handbrake is a lot heavier than the fanatec. The lever is replaceable but only if you know how to make a new one. It can make noise if you let it go aggressively but it doesn't really make noise.

Have you tried to mount the handbrake with either/both of the table clamps?
I'm on a popular wheelstand (GT Omega Apex) and am curious if the clamp would fasten to the top bar just under 40mm in depth
This would let me mount the handbrake closer to the steering wheel
PS Love the informative tangents for newbies like me!
I don't have a GT Omega Apex to test it on unfortunately. There's a VNM discord where you could ask
@@LaurenceDusoswa Thanks for replying, I actually ended up just getting one and the force required to pull is NO JOKE.
Short answer is that it's impractical and I think VNM should be very clear their clamp only fits the shifter...
Long answer is that only one of the clamps will fit onto the handbrake at one side or the other on the back because the turning knobs will bump into each other... The Left and Right holes also angle/taper slightly like a V shape so you cannot have them sitting parallel at a level surface... The center hole on the back of the handbrake is also larger than the bolt size the C-Clamp can handle
Looks like I'll need some kind of 8020 soon because I don't think a standalone mounting solution exists yet!
Have you tried the v2? What's the difference. To me the only difference seems to be the handle.
How do you think the Aiologs handbrake would compare? That seems like good value for money
The aiologs has good reviews but I have no experience with it unfortunately. It does seem like good value for money.
Hi did you notice when using this after a while that it feels sloppy for the first half of the travel? It used to feel really solid the whole way through its pull and I’ve had it about 6 months now it feels really sloppy for the first half of its travel
That’s odd. I spent a lot of time with it. Sounds like your elastomer failed maybe. Swap it out if you can find another somewhere
I don't know much at all about load cells, but is it okay for the load cell to only be attached on one end? the load cell itself seems to bend a lot. Could that break?
Yep, that’s exactly how a load cell works. The slight movement is translated to a voltage which allows for a very consistent reading which is easy for our muscles to memorise.
Its highly unlikely to break though

@@LaurenceDusoswa awesome, im planning on getting the moza r5 bundle, vnm shifter, and trying to decide wether to get the moza handbrake or this vnm. Ill be drifting in carx and getting into assetto corsa and doing sim-arcade racing and start getting into full sim racing so do you have a thought wether i should go moza or this? Money doesnt really matter, its more or less do i really need load cell or not, would i really notice it
Concentrate on getting used to a functional handbrake first and save your money. Go for the moza and you can always upgrade if you want

Yes, there’s a table clamp available for the shifter which works for the handbrake and if you wanna mount both they have a plate that can mount both

AC's half assed clutch implementation bums me out. Even Forza stalls out your car if you handbrake without clutching in.
Yeah it’s weak. Hopefully ac2 sorts that

Heusinkveld v2 handbrake is way better then this handbrake. The heusinkveld v2 is so much better then heusinkveld v1 handbrake
As I say in the video, I have not reviewed the heusinkveld options. I’m interested to hear about your experiences with this handbrake though

@@LaurenceDusoswa but the vnm is way over priced for what you get. Also the extra mounting bracket should be free not $10 more that you featured in the video. Plus vnm cheaped out on the RGB light on the handbrake. Couldn't even keep both products similar
