Really useful, I've read about this a few times and forgot during my uni years but I don't think I'll forget after seeing it explained visually in this video. I'll be sharing this with more pre-reg optometrists such as myself, thanks so much for uploading!
Thank you for the extra details. I particularly appreciates the break down of the entire plates into categories that helps in more accurate screening...
remembering that its recommended that the plates be replaced due to the saturation from the northern light used, many cases where a wrong diagnoses done due to wrong lightning or faded plates, and many authorities are to blame for stopping many people from pursuing a career, and barred due to simple administration of these tests
this book seems ever so slightly easier than online examples (perhaps due to monitor color differences?), and i was barely able to make out the vanishing ones if i likely eat well and concentrate hard enough; the fake number plates will be the hardest for me, but assuming the book follows similar format in most places, i should be fine and can realize when i get to the fake number patterns by the background and foreground dots if you practice taking these tests too, you can tell by the difficulty of each page which type of method you'll have to use to get the number (the vanishing is very difficult but doable for me, whereas the hidden digit is hard to tell but still a bit easier than vanishing, and knowing that i can tell the difference between the two tests) :) also keep in mind during the end (and by research) which numbers are most likely to get confused, and when discerning a number, check for those key points to tell which of the two most numbers it could be (such as the left bar for 5 and 6 to see if the bar completes the 6, or if it's really a 5) just some tips for people on the edge
I'd assume its the kind of illumination being used in the video, but I'm not colour deficient and I'm 100% certain that I can see the numbers on the hidden digit plates...
Dan S.C brother read those page caption they r hidden digit number means they try to make a number over there like 45 but that 4 and incomplete bcoz orange line is going over there so u can't say thats the number over there
I thought Hidden Digit plates were designed as a trick to make the subject fail or score significantly lower.... On "Colblindor" the test asked for either a number or a _number of lines_. I see "falling lava" and lines converging, as expected, but couldn't count them. That sites instructions might be lacking. On the other hand, the plate Six, where there is a 5 and a deeply hidden 2, revealed a peculiar flaw in Photoshop 7 (I swear by old software). If I convert to greyscale, the digit disappears, which must be perceptually correct, but if I desaturate by -100, a faint 5 can still be seen. I assumed those two were equivalent.
250 lux, ideally natural lighting but if not then a fluorescent bulb. Tungsten is unacceptable. You don't specifically shine a light on the px or test you just make sure the room is lit adequately.
@@bobmarley6306 is lighting really important? doctor showed me plates in nearly a dark room. i saw vanishing plates very clearly that colorblinds cant see but i see 5 and 2, 29 and 70 at the same time. is it possible or because of lighting. also getting normal result on enchroma everytime
@@umumut_ Correct lighting is definitely important, which is why the test has guidelines for the ideal lighting. Even if the exact guideline can't be met its basically supposed to be a bright room as far as I know, since the alternative is to use natural light.
This test destroyed many aspiring police officer in Philippines. Those people they dreamt being a police since they were kids. But because of this test, they lost it all. Hey, I have the red and green deficiency and currently being told that i need to sit the Ishihara test for the job i want to do ( Commercial Airline Pilot. If i fail the ishara test is there any other way of passing a colour vision test? Also i would like to ask will there ever be a cure for Colour blindness? Thanks Craig.
I know I’m replying 4 years late but I hope you got your ATPL. I believe you can perform a medical flight test if you failed the Ishihara test. But I would assume it’s way easier to just recite the answers if they tell you specifically that you will be taking the Ishihara test.
@@henrychan720 hey henry!!!!! im here for my atpl and want to ask is that the real book? i mean the color accurate is the same with others or it can change slightly? just want to be sure i see plates super clear on this video

@@ryanmaycock81 I got appointment from two different doctors and they tested me with these books. Actually they were much visible than online versions. Probably printed and monitor colours different, that makes the difference. Because I can slightly see that hidden digit designs in this video which must be impossible to read if I am normal. But of course I didnt see them in the real printed book :). Online tests like enchroma says normal to me also. Anyway, thank you for reply!
To be a pilot, what else. This is discrimination. In Australia you are now allowed to be a pilot even if you are colour blind, but in other countries colorblind people are still discriminated for no safety reason. There were no accidents in the path caused by colourblindnes.
I'm sorry to hear this. Can I ask u which test did u do? Cause I'm makeing a video about colorblind tests and I discovered in Italy the Ishihara test is very used for pilots, but abroad is popular the Beyne Lanthern test which seems to be less difficult. But isn't possible to wear special glass that "temporary cure" this problem? 'Cause they exist but I dunno if they are admitted.
I didn't pass the beyne test. The irony is that I saw green (i have a slightly green vision problem) perfectly. I had problems with yellow and white. But that was clear before the test because many people before me had problems with yellow and white in this test. I will repeat it in six month.

What about the actual illumination the test should be carried out in? Where do you shine the light? on the test or at the patient?
