They don’t need to replace, they just need enough engagement to make OBS consume their studio. They could’ve easily made plugins but as the end of the video explains, they’re missing partnerships. I’m happy bc I came here to learn more and Nutty is the only that speaks in a tone of teaching I can digest. Plus you’re just way more entertaining!
I DL'd the Mac version and have been playing with it. Deffo not ready for those of us with crazy, multi-plugin, tons of automation setups...but for beginners who just want a simple setup, I think it's actually viable.
They just need to hire you Nutty, because you really push it to the limits and do amazing things in your streams and videos. Thanks for the years of things you have taught me!
Meld looks really cool. I think the main argument for OBS, for me anyway, is the learning aspect. It's sweet that it forces you to learn how things work, and that if something doesn't work, you end up teaching yourself how to fix it for the future instead of having to rely on someone else to update and patch. I will definitely check Meld out though, because it looks really fun to play with.
Would def try this if they somehow worked in obs plugin support and cleaned up the issues you touched on. I'm ready for OBS to either innovate or get out of the way.
looks pretty sick. i waste so much lifetime in obs to adjust stuff. the way you have to click ten different times to get to filter settings for example. You can do almost everything in obs, but it costs you everything of your free time^^
Duude the move transition where it animates the crop and corner roundness with an outline/shadow is something I've been trying to figure out in obs forever. Gonna try this out.
For my fellow linux enjoyers: From the link in the description, you can open the file with notepad. There will be a link to a .msix file (the actual application), which is just a zip. If you unzip the .msix file, there will be the full application! Now, from here I can notice that the application is in Qt, which means that compatibility in the future with linux should be quite feasible I was able to actually run it with wine-ge 8.26 via lutris, but to be fair a lot of basic features did not work (Fair enough) Surprisingly, audio was one of the few things that worked immediately, which is a really good sign for (hopefully) future support!
Awesome! We heard from someone else recently that got pretty far running it on wine. Glad to hear the audio worked out of the box. I think the two big issues wrt wine are: 1) I don't think capture devices are going to work very well (we're using MediaFoundation) 2) We running DirectX12 (last I checked dxvk was only up to DX11) but most of our backend is portable (we target Metal for macOS already). A Vulkan backend probably wouldn't be terribly challenging. We use Linux quite extensively internally but exclusively in a headless manner. We for example build and run our CI suite with several thousand tests on headless linux machines. We also cross-build from Linux (with an all LLVM based toolchain) for all of our target platforms. Better codegen (thanks to LLVM) and build performance (thanks to anything other than NTFS) 🙂
Definitely going to check this out! Never been a fan of OBS layout but I use it for it's functionality. But my set up is pretty basic as I just use it to record. This seems like a perfect fit for me. Appreciate the download link!
OBS studio is community supported, its made with love. I dont see it being replaced anytime soon. Its like VLC, also great, Qbittorrent, also great. Community based/open source software will always be better, because people do it to be better because they actually want those features implemented!
No one said this software won't be community supported. There is tons of features planned for the future. There's definitely community based interaction/support in those plans as beta testers have thrown the idea around a good bit.
@@isagesentv I think you misunderstood what I meant. What im saying is that an open comunitty doing public service on github will be always better than a closed team producing a product. OBS is way ahead in features and its gonna be hard to match it. let alone surpass it.
@Alexandremix I would argue that's just personal opinion. I understood exactly what you meant. OBS has also had a lot of time to get where it is now. Meld is not trying to replace OBS. It's here to be an alternative. There's also no reason to say that Meld can't become community supported in a similar way later down the road. You can absolutely feel the love from the Meld devs and those who are testing it.
I will say that for some reason the latency was incredibly tight like the stream is so responsive. The moving layers from the scene to scene was immaculate, and I had so much fun and it made it so easy and I could be so creative if there was a way to like for this program and OBS to have a baby like that, is that what I want that’s what I want I got a chance to try it today and the biggest thing for me other than the fact that there’s no like stream integrations like you can’t adjust any of your like title or any stream information. You also can’t see chat and you can’t send a preview window to like another monitor. You can’t preview any like of the scenes. Also, was an absolute Tank on my computer if there was a way to lighten this up like considerably. If I was hitting 40 frames in multiplayer call of duty when normally I am sitting at like 140 it was taking up about 35 to 40% GPU. I do have a slightly older computer, but OBS the way I use it because I can free view to a different monitor therefore using a capture card for another separate streaming computer to broadcast that the only way I could see using it as an integration as he is in on my streaming computer because then I can just use the input as a video source from the capture card from the gaming computer where all my scenes and stuff for being set up in that OBS and I have on my streaming computer is separate application like mix it up, open to where I can see chat and change stream information but that seems like the only way you’d also need like a pretty nice computer to have like an external program like mix it up controlling other aspects of the stream that Meld doesn’t, and I also already use that I don’t know. Figured I’d share my thoughts if anything came out funny it’s because I’m using speech to text love the video nutty❤❤❤
Thanks for trying out meld and sharing your thoughts! Working out performance issues like the one you mention is a top priority for us while we're in beta. Over the last few weeks we've been working closely with our community to track down performance issues they're seeing while running alongside a game. We've got a fix for this we expect to roll out very soon.
Love this video!! As the OG Windows beta user its great seeing all the interest and love this pogram is getting! Knowing what fratures and everything planned for the future is great! Its what i use full time now and my pc is happier with less cpu/gpu usage
The lack of VST plugins is indeed a deal breaker (for me at least), but I doubt they will keep it that way. A streaming software requires tools for both audio and video, you can't have one without the other so I'm pretty sure it will be done at some point. The ability to add more transitions/stingers is much needed as well, although to be honest what I'm looking for the most is the ability to have custom features like an on-screen timer, audio visualizer, song title display, custom alerts (without third-party tools/website like StreamLabs), and so on... Basically, the most downloaded OBS plugins would be very nice to have in this new software. If not directly implemented, at least a tab where you can toggle/download specific plugins to your heart's content.
We had a dev build kicking around at some point with VST3 support but we were hearing from most of our community that they were happy running VSTs in external audio chains (ex. WaveLink or similar). We'll revisit soon.
@@joelcompiles The lack of audio filters or VST support is a complete deal breaker. I don't know what your community is smoking but audio is the one thing a streamer needs to get right and I can't do that with Meld currently. I'm really glad to see something like this being developed though because OBS is horrible to use. Please make audio a priority.
My number one concern with 'free' products is - how do they fund development, as a dev myself its not cheap. Is it my data or advertising, is this now or in the future? And number two is this, like OBS, intended to be a 'always free' software? I'm happy to pay for the things that do what I need - but I despise free stuff ripping the carpet from under me with a restrictive pricing model after not being upfront about it.
Woahhhh, can't imagine a world without ya on UA-cam, nutty! Hope you know there are tons of silent fans out there supporting ya however we can :D -FUNKNOWN
This honestly looks amazing. Once a chunk of those missing items are hopefully added, I could definitely see myself using it. I definitely need some form of multitrack, custom stinger transitions, and if there's some solid lioranboard and steam deck support, it would be a really good option for me for sure.
We already have full support for Stream Deck and Stream Deck Plus. For multi-track audio: we just rolled out Twitch VOD track separation (which you can see a bit when he opens the mixer panel). We're working on some more audio improvements - would be interested to learn how you're using multi-track in your setup today.
@@joelcompiles love that!! this all sounds great!!!! and that's the main thing i use it for, separating certain audio sources from the VOD. What are the chances for Lioranboard support? :) That's pretty important to me since i use it for automated channel point redemptions and "emergency" scene switching. Also stingers are a MUST! If those are added, I have full intent of giving this a shot.
Im gonna be honest, I never reflected over how much OBS is in need of a design update. The UX for OBS could REALLY be improved to help beginners. I know of atleast one of my friends who didn't use OBS because it look daunting when your new to it and the learning curve is quite step. A update which focuses on redesigning the UI to be more intuitive (and maybe implement such features as the placeholder and "select source" dropdown from Meld) would be a game changer and milestone for OBS!
I'm surprised you didn't talk about the performance of the software. How well does it encode compared to obs studio? All these improvements don't mean a thing if the quality is worse. And if it's the same or better, that should be highlighted.
I really liked Meld. As for now the settings was really lacking, even for a beta. I’m not talking about scene settings, filters etc. Like the actual software settings. No way to set different settings for stream and record, no vertical support and much more. But, the devs said they are working on all of that. I can’t wait to see where this goes, they are coming for OBS and it can be a game changer.
Thanks for trying out Meld! We've only started development for Windows in January of this year but we're moving as fast as we can! What settings would you like to see for streaming and recording that you found missing? We've always been responsive to user feedback when they aren't able to achieve their desired quality.
What about performance and resource usage? I need to use a ton of panels, and browser sources, and windows open in parallel, so every saved juice is much appreciatted
UI/UX is often one of the things that is lacking with free open-source software because it's normally programmers who begin such projects. They usually don't have the skill-overlap with good UI/UX design, so they use the basic frameworks available to implement features. There's no pressing need in early development to focus on that stuff because the people using it are smart enough to work around the quirks, with expanded popularity comes higher demand for improving the interface. I'm sure OBS Studio will eventually catch up, most popular projects that last a long time tend to get to a point where the user experience is the only thing left to focus on.
I agree. They're also very careful about performance/compatibility which is why they often refuse to use modern frameworks until they are practically forced to.
I will check it out and play around with. Looks interesting. Hopefully they add the stuff you talked about, otherwise It wouldn't be something I would switch to.
Now that looks just awesome! But what if video and webcam go laggy and freeze ? I hope Meld can make that for low end computers because on OBS you have to change framerate, fps and so on every friggin time!
For now if someone wanted to use it and can't use VST's if they have an Elgato Mic, it allows VST in the wave mixer so it's a bypass kind of, and if they dont have a wave mic they could use SteelSeries "sonar" which is like Wavelink software but free.
I genuinely hope they take the time to integrate. join eachother and find some way to lighten it on the pc in general. A meldobs program would be so 👍. I used it and went live for a bit and the move transition is fire but there arent hotkeys and that was fucked. Meld made a little hone in my heart but rhe best way i could think of it was like a 10/10 with the worst personality. All the key things werent there
not gonna lie it looks exciting to and super intuitive to use for a person that sucks at using obs and all those this might be my go too when it get more features and supports the audio devices known mixer brands and audio cards
Great review! This looks like it has a lot of potential, one thing I'm wondering however, wouldn't having all this extra features that required plugins in OBS Studio slow down the performance of the app? (Don't give up making videos :D)
How is the performance (cpu/gpu usage) using this software? Edit: I also love how it is also on Mac. And that helps since I have a MacBook Pro for streaming & recording while gaming on my windows pc. The slight deal breaker is the multi track audio. I would love to separate my audio for editing after streaming.
Very impressive and it obviously has a bright future if they add in the missing features. Since its still in development its quite natural that some stuff is missing. As for using VSTs yeah thats a really big feature for me, but since I am using an Elgato Wave 3 and can configure the VSTs in WaveLink, its not as much of a problem for me. Can it do Scene in Scene though? Almost all of my OBS configuration relies on SiS so that I have only one place to change things if necessary (so all my Audio is in an Audio Scene that gets included in every other scene more or less, same with overlays, microphone, game capture etc). Edit to add: It will green screen a video clip easily using Chroma key but it won't seemingly allow me to play a video once only from the start each time I turn on the layer. Also forgot to ask will it work with a streamdeck? Is there a plugin?
I personally won't be using this because of its closed source nature, OBS has a ton of plugins and a huge community around it, I really think that we just need more people focused on improving UI/UX in OBS
@@streamwithmeld Audio is even more important to get right than visuals. It should be a priority for you. At the very least we need EQ, compression, gain, limiting, noise gate, noise removal. I literally cannot use Meld without these. VST integration is important too. I hope you add these things soon. I'm so glad to see a potentially great OBS successor in the works because I hate OBS but have to use it because of the options it has.
@@scooba789 We do have all of those items on our roadmap. We even had a experimental build for VST; but is was never released since it needs a lot of more work. Thanks for the feedback!
Theres alot of good things i like about meld, but its lacking certain things thats a deal breaker for me that you have mentioned. Will keep my eye on it though incase they implement it later.
Just rolled out last week! Let us know how you like it. We designed it to work while you're live so you can toggle VOD tracks if you're already live and noticed you missed something,
That was the first thing i noticed in this video. suprised he didnt mentiot it. one click button right there in the audio interface to exclude from twitch vod. LOVE THIS
How far along this is already... it's extremely promising. They don't have to do much and I would absolutely start using it, despite how stupidly complex I've made my stream... even though it's not fancy lol.
what about dual pc thought that is huge problem if dont work with dual pc. because a lot streamer has dual pc and the audio etc. that is as important as multi stream
Thanks, Nutty! I would definitely be interested in Meld Studio now if it had a feature like OBS’ Freeze Filter, which I use all the time. Does it have such freeze feature?
What do you suppose causes OBS screen freezes? “Gaming pc to Elgato card to stream pc.” If I want to submit vids to cuttlabs do I need to enabl twitch VOD tracks or whatever? I think I just have 1 above it or something
It would be nice if they could add a feature like a GT Title Designer (from Vmix) where you can edit and animate a PSD file to your stream. That would be a game changer especially to small-time video production. It would be even nice if they target these consumers not just streamers.
We're going to be doing a lot more with animation in the future. We basically built a 2D game engine that powers things under the hood. It's not in public builds today, but any property in the inspector can be "bound" to an animator (or another property) and you can do some powerful stuff. This would allow you to (for ex) animate the font size for a text layer based on the transition progress as you changes scenes. We've built some stinger transitions with it in our internal testing.
i can't open the install file.... gives me this error "Error in parsing the app package." may have something to do with an error on my microsoft store?
Anyone please help me. I watched this streamer last night and when someone comments, there will be animals falling down with a text box of the comment. The animal after that will walk back and forth in the livestream. Please help me what kind of widget/plugin is that?
being beta i hope mels does get audio filters and more like plug in support for add-ons. having dyslexic type were navigation is difficult easy of use is a must. i use movavi video editor because all the well known ones are not intuitive. i did not know you could fix audio sync in obs so my video are always slightly off
@@isagesentv look forward to it. A simpler interface would be great. Did nutty report its CPU GPU use under load with a intense set up comparing to a similar set up with OBS. That be a major thing that would sway me left or right

gottem
I will check it out and play around with. Looks interesting. Hopefully they add the stuff you talked about, otherwise It wouldn't be something I would switch to.
everything nutty mentioned is on our roadmap! we cant wait to hear your feedback!
Great review and all but, I have to ask, is stream deck compatible with meld?
yes we have a streamdeck plug in available for macos and windows
@@streamwithmeld awesome, thanks for the reply
Great video! Look forward to seeing more Meld videos from you
Now that looks just awesome!
How does it go with CPU usage? Might have to test it out
Bro this is so nice. Thanks for sharing! I'm going to start streaming again with this software.
You are the best Nutty!!!
obs redesign has to happen
may be wakeup call for OBS dev team/contributors.
They already did........ They already integrate with Streamlabs and Streamelements
All the key things werent there
i heard talks about someone working on it.
@@the_RCB_films i hope it is happening rn
Are Stream Deck plugins available or in the pipeline?
we have a streamdeck integration out for windows and mac :)
Looks like a product for me, let's see if I am able to replicate my audio setup in there.
OBS is powerful but so outdated in UI.
we cant wait to hear your feedback!
we cant wait to hear your feedback!
No, you shouldn't stop making youtube videos! Keep going!
Honestly I always love seeing a new Nutty video... It's never NOT useful. Great video once again!
not gonna lie it looks exciting to and super intuitive to use for a person that sucks at using obs and all those this might be my go too when it get more features and supports the audio devices known mixer brands and audio cards
Motif! How dare you, Nutty!! 😂 this seriously looks awesome
Good stuff Nutty!
Per scene settings? Yes. 🤤
Biggest dealbreaker for me would be to not be able to control my OBS via streamerbot / firebot. Any news on that?
we cant talk about any of this quite yet (;
we cant talk about any of this quite yet (;
I like your Vids. Chill ass dude with a clear sound and voice. Ez 2 understand. Keep it up and don't question your talent
Thanks for the amazing crisp review and please don't stop posting VIDEOs @nutty
this is great, try to create more, and I'll look forward to it
going to give it a try
Great review! This looks like it has a lot of potential, one thing I'm wondering however, wouldn't having all this extra features that required plugins in OBS Studio slow down the performance of the app? (Don't give up making videos :D)
This looks promising
Nutty, thanks for sharing bro
looks cool though. . . a wee bit more polishing on their pairt and i can see it becoming a serious contender.. .
Thank you!
Hey Nutty, is there a websocket?
As you said OBS could do with a UI update asap
Just found you by accident, subbed and liked. Good stuff on yer channel. Will be tinkering with meld. Thanx
Checked this out previously, and it doesn't handle audio sources with the GoXLR the way OBS does unfortunately :(
Let me know what you're missing and I'll make sure we look into it for an upcoming release.
Definitely less cpu/gpu usage. Atleast a good 4-5% difference for me
Damn this is slick! But, yea not having audio plugins are a deal breaker for me.
i'm trying it needed a second software with different setting and scenes.
try to see if vertical streaming works like the video you made of apex legends
DONT STOP OMG
I personally won't be using this because of its closed source nature, OBS has a ton of plugins and a huge community around it, I really think that we just need more people focused on improving UI/UX in OBS
noise suppression | compressor | gain | limiter
Thank you for this feedback it is very valuable!
Becan even did a collab give away. with them
Don't stop making videos, who am I going to plai-learn from if you do!?
Theres alot of good things i like about meld, but its lacking certain things thats a deal breaker for me that you have mentioned. Will keep my eye on it though incase they implement it later.
What would you be most excited to see added?
we will be implenting much of what nutty mentioned in his video soon :)
Having exclude from Twitch VOD already there is huge too.
LOVE THIS
@@CODGOD303 Thanks! We worked closely with our community in discord to design this experience. Let us know if you have any ideas for improvements!
How far along this is already... it's extremely promising. They don't have to do much and I would absolutely start using it, despite how stupidly complex I've made my stream... even though it's not fancy lol.
We've only been in private Windows beta since January. Lots more to come. We roll out releases every two weeks.
@@joelcompiles That's even more impressive! Can't wait to see. :)
what about dual pc thought that is huge problem if dont work with dual pc. because a lot streamer has dual pc and the audio etc. that is as important as multi stream
The Advanced Audio Properties in OBS has been the bane of my existence for some time now...
Let them cook with the radial menu.
We’re cooking 🧑🍳
Is it good for offline recording mode ? I record OBS for recording and I am looking for a better replacement.
Yes! I record with it offline often and it works great
It would be nice if they could add a feature like a GT Title Designer (from Vmix) where you can edit and animate a PSD file to your stream.
I never understand why none of these products have a good time shift. I mean Elgato have 2hours timeshift since years without any issues.....
Anyone please help me. I watched this streamer last night and when someone comments, there will be animals falling down with a text box of the comment. The animal after that will walk back and forth in the livestream. Please help me what kind of widget/plugin is that?
Can you put a preview to another monitor so you can use it with share screen in MS teams. Also is it stream deck compatible?
Can you use VDO Ninja as a source perhaps to bring in guests?
being beta i hope mels does get audio filters and more like plug in support for add-ons. having dyslexic type were navigation is difficult easy of use is a must. i use movavi video editor because all the well known ones are not intuitive.
i did not know you could fix audio sync in obs so my video are always slightly off
A lot of this is on their future feature roadmap :D
@@isagesentv look forward to it. A simpler interface would be great. Did nutty report its CPU GPU use under load with a intense set up comparing to a similar set up with OBS.
That be a major thing that would sway me left or right
@@streamtabulous My CPU/GPU usage is definitely less than when using OBS thats for sure. Ive been using it for a good few months
@@isagesentv thanks that important especially on my old system
