There's a sleeve to avoid the dents and scratches from activity or heavy lifting. I got one from OSleeve and I have been using mine for 4 years with no issues.
I do have the sliver version. It seems the best "scratch resistant" version. My biggest concern is the software and firmware development for the V3. No real update yet. Bad sleep tracking in start and ending time. Got messages of napping. I do never take a nap. Reported my issues. Got no reply yet. Stay with v2. New customers wait for further development.
Yeah I've had the opposite - took a nap, got a good 30min rest, wake up and Oura didn't pick it up. Also I'm currently using a Polar Vantage V2 for training, and the sleep data is VERY different to the Oura :S
Wow…should have seen that earlier could have saved the money on the stealth oura3 🤪 it’s 3 weeks old now zero scratches but I’m on the laptop mostly also working out I wear gloves interested how would the gold one hold up wanna get it for my wife 😎
when you say weightlifting, pull ups etc., you are putting all the weight on the ring and it holds up? I was worried if I do pull-ups or so my weight would crush the ring? it is electronics after all.
I have smashed it pretty hard - I even used the ring to help with grip sometimes - so there is a LOT of pressure going through it. The ring itself has helped up - but it is pretty beat up from a scratch point of view!
Wearing gym gloves is uncomfortable for me with or without a ring :P So I'm not the best person to answer this! You're probably best to try and and see how it feels for you :)
Thanks for the video mate, much appreciated! If I’m not bothered about scratches and looks but rather interested in collecting my data from training as well, do you see any issues with wearing it while strength training ? I own the generation 2 heritage stealth but have never worn it while training alltho I actually would want to 😅
I use mine with training and have done for years. Heck you can even see this video from 2017 where I use it while deadlifting - ua-cam.com/video/ajk6PRBdJV0/v-deo.html I do take it off now when I'm doing big deadlift sets for reps - I just want to make sure my grip is 100% perfect for the big sets. I mean you could leave it on, but I choose to take it off. Otherwise it's on when I do rows, or chins, or presses etc.
@@LightTherapyInsiders Awesome, thanks for sharing mate! This was always the one thing I found a little sad about the ring. If I want data of my HRV and RHR, sleep and such, I also would like to have it collecting data of me when I train since this is about 4-5 times a week. Will do so then and thanks again. Have a great week!
I have had my ring for ~4 months in matte black that I wear daily. Scratches aren’t as bad as yours but not liking how it looks. I am considering carefully spray painting the ring. Any thoughts? Obviously I will not get paint on the electronics on inside of ring.
You could give it a go. It's not something I have looked into. Matching the color and finding a paint that stays on may be tricky?? If you do it let me know how you get on
You are correct lifting weights is what caused his to scratch and lose color your not supposed to lift weights with it, maybe if you had the silver one you'd be fine no color to come off
Yeah fair point. I don't care if they get scratched up or not hence why I keep it on and I thought I'd show people want can happen if you do use it lifting. I took it off once when training and nearly lost the ring! So it's easier just to leave it on
Actually, his review is quite informative, especially for people who do gym workouts. I was exactly looking for this because I had been concerned about its durability. After watching this video, I finally decided to go for one. Thanks.
Hey Guys, I am mostly interested in the oura ring to track calories burnt and 99% of my workouts are weightlifting. Does the oura ring track calories burnt via the heart rate readings or from the accelerometer? Anyone here successfully track accurate calories burnt during a weightlifting session ?
Yeah! Though a lot of my 'abuse' comes from my life on the farm (fixing things, fencing, working with machines etc). I'm not phased - I use it as a health device, not as a nice piece of jewellery :)
Hey, yeah there are many ways to test irradiance. A lot of companies use a solar mete - but thats not a suitable device. Some companies send their panels off for independant testing and publish the data (I wish all companies did this). I use a spectrometer and use the same testing protocol for all panels - so my figures may be different to a companies listed figures, but I know they're reliable and comparable to other data points from my other tests.

Is the gold model chipping off like stealth, or is like the silver version?

Oh neat! Thanks for that
Costing more than $60 is pretty crazy for a plastic cover.
@@01rai01 2 doller on temu or ali :P
That does seem a bit high, I wonder how well a 3d printed one would work. @@01rai01
This was super helpful - thank you! You saved me $100
Thanks Alex! I just got a glossy black ring for Christmas so this is helpful
There is a protection sleeve called the o sleeve
I think the scratches on the black/ stealth ones gives it a nice patina!
Haha :)
Please do this with the series 4
Kia Ora Alex, just got mine today! This is definitely a video I was looking for, worried about using it while lifting and it getting scratched!
Chur!
Glad it helped! Enjoy :)
Can you try the new brushed titanium one?
Thanks for this!
No worries :)
Thanks man, great video
Glad it helped
thank you for this video!

Today; no sleepscore or readiness. I think the ring is malfunctioning. Have Oura contacted.🤞
@@dennerik36911 is something new about your case?
@@LightTherapyInsiders in what way os the sleep data different dude?
Отличный обзор! Короче пара месяцев, и если человек работает руками, в спортзале например, кольцо превращается в поцарапанную гайку.
Hi Alex, any reason you go for the heritage instead of the horizon? Cheers from OZ
Hey, na no big reason.

Oh yours might be OK then, I thrash mine!
Thanks, Mate 👍
No problem 👍
Thanks.
You are welcome!
How do u handle so many rings? Understand that one ring can only be pair with one account
I used my wife's phone!
when you say weightlifting, pull ups etc., you are putting all the weight on the ring and it holds up? I was worried if I do pull-ups or so my weight would crush the ring? it is electronics after all.
This is my question too.
I don't pull up or lift anything like this guy lifts, but it can't be good for the tech over time
I have smashed it pretty hard - I even used the ring to help with grip sometimes - so there is a LOT of pressure going through it. The ring itself has helped up - but it is pretty beat up from a scratch point of view!
I just got my stealth in but now your making me think if I should return it for the black or just not use when I train
It's up to you - I personally wasn't worried about the scratches so I was happy to thrash it :P
If you take the Oura ring off while lifting weights but track your workout via "Apple Watch", would the data from Apple Fitness synch with Oura app?
I don't know. Good question, though, I will see if I can find out. I think it probably doesn't, though.
do you have a referal discount code to buy an oura ring?
Not anymore sorry.
If you wear gym gloves while you wear the ring and work out, is it uncomfortable?

spray paint will likely make it look worse as it will scratch very easily and you'll be left with an ugly mess.
@CGG_GSS the spray paint will be much les durable than the original color
To be fair, Oura says not to use the ring while weight lifting.
You are correct lifting weights is what caused his to scratch and lose color your not supposed to lift weights with it, maybe if you had the silver one you'd be fine no color to come off

I wouldn't rely on the Oura for calorie tracking. It's not very accurate.
I think the only way to avoid scratches is to wear weightlifting gloves or remove it while lifting but that kinda defeats the point doesn't it lol
Yeah! Though a lot of my 'abuse' comes from my life on the farm (fixing things, fencing, working with machines etc). I'm not phased - I use it as a health device, not as a nice piece of jewellery :)
I don't understand how people find working out with a ring comfortable
You don't really notice it. Just like a wedding ring I guess.

I don't get it?
it's beyond me why anyone would lift weights with a ring on.
