BMW F10 F11 N57 Engine Cranks But Won't Start

  • BMW F10/F11 530d N57D30 with the complain of engine cranks but doesn't want to start. After checking quickly the Data Stream on the diagnostic tool, I have saw that the Low-Pressure / Pre-Supply fuel pressure was too low. So let's see what will fix this issue.
    Fault code:
    249300 P016D Rail-Pressure Monitoring On Engine Starting: Rail Pressure Too Low On Engine Starting

    Amazing video thank you very much, i have had this issue but intermittend with my f30 330d. The car mostly starts but maybe once or twice in 2 weeks time it has this issue but starts after trying a few times. now i know what to tell my mechanic!! Great information

    4:45 well if you have power and ground, doesn't mean pump is bad, had a problem with e46 m57 where it needed some cranking in cold weather like -10, one day drove to work and at -15 didn't start, checked power and ground-all ok, assumed a pump, by pure coincidence decided to check relay, and when switched out with nearby climate control relay car came to life at -30 outside with no problems.

    Nice video and diagnostic. I had a similar issue with my F07 with N57D30T0 last year. I noticed that I had some warnings about a low pre-supply when looking at faults in ISTA. I thought that would be down to a clogged fuel filter, so I replaced it and bled the system as per instructions. A few weeks later, my engine just coughed during a warm start and it wouldn't start. I got a message about fuel supply problems in the dashboard. At this point I was fearing for my high pressure fuel pump. Connected diagnostics and was relieved to see that the pre-supply was missing. The fuse for the fuel pump had blown, so I replaced it, bled the fuel system and the car started as normal. Later that day, I had the same issue when starting the car. The fuse had blown again, so I now knew that my fuel pump in the tank was bad. Managed to bring the car home and started to order parts. Removing the cover over the tank revealed a disturbing sight: The connectors through the plastic lid on the tank had melted badly, so the bad fuel pump was actually a shorted supply in the connector to the tank. Would've been a proper fire if this was a gasoline car.. The pump assembly was changed anyway and the wiring harness between the EKP ECU and fuel pump was changed. The car has been perfect since, but hopefully my high pressure pump haven't seen too much abuse to cause premature failure. I couldn't see any metal shavings in the tank at least.

      A blown fuse is always because of something. Especially OEM one.

      @@crank3646 i can also recommend to check the steel fuel lines for any rust especially where the lines are connected to the frame/body. i had low fuel pressure in an E39 M57 due to weak fuel lines. funny enough there hadn't been any visible fuel leaks but diesel escaped somewhere into one of these clamps. once i pulled the lines out of the clamps i could see the leak or at least the weak spots.

    Hey can you please help me ? My car is the same i checked the power at fuel tank pump i is getting power chrcked the pressure pre supply and is good and when crank rail pressure is 70-85 bars . Since the fuel tabk pump appears to be ok what should i do next @crank
