This is also my favorite childhood piece. The only difference is that I have just learned at the young age of 70. Just imagine what I will be playing, Lang Lang, when I reach the age of 120. The mind boggles….
Kind sir, I love when accomplished virtuosos play simple classical pieces with as much musicality and expression as they do larger works in the classical genre. So often students want to play difficult Music they are not ready for, this example played so beautifully brings life and worthiness into these timeless selections.
Yes, Bach's music definitely helps you to improve your memory and concentration skills but also your musical intuition. Bach is, without a doubt, the Master of masters, It's impossible to listen to his music and not be completely captivated by it. He composed every single piece with his whole heart and dedicated all his music to God and that, in my opinion, is what makes it special the most: one feels God's vibration/energy in every single note and in the pulse of his music ... Johann Sebastian Bach: "“Music is an agreeable harmony for the honor of God and the permissible delights of the soul.” - “I play the notes as they are written, but it is God who makes the music.” - “The final aim and reason of all music is nothing other than the glorification of God and the refreshment of the spirit. where this is not remembered there is no real music but only a devilish hubbub.” “Where there is devotional music, God is always at hand with His gracious presence.""

Thank you for posting this wonderful music. My name is Gavri'el and I think it's exciting that in our research we found that we may be a descendant of Christian Petzold as my family comes from Germany. My mom was a wonderful and talented organist in the Church here in the USA for many years. I was always amazed at how she would play the organ so well. And it's interesting that Christian was an organist too. According to history records it shows that Bach's eldest son replaced Christian as the organist at the Church in Germany when he passed on. Wish there was more music that could be found of Christian Petzold's work today. This generation would be blessed to discover the richness of these famous composers of the past. Bach and Christian along with many others of the Baroque period have inspired me to compose as well. Thanks again for posting this beautiful music! - Gavri'el
Thank you very much! This is very useful for my daughter to learn Bach's songs. She usually has a good memory and can remember almost all the pieces . But she says that memorizing Bach's songs is really difficult, and she needs to play and play slowly at the beginning ! Lang Lang played so beautifully that he shook our hearts👍🥰
Complete beginner here, 31yo. After a month of Hanon (1-10), my teacher proposed I either tried to learn Prelude VI (BWV 851), which looked pretty scary, or this Minuet in Gm. I went with the scary option for about a week, and after learning half of it my brain was mush, so for a break I decided to try the Minuet... suffice to say I memorized it in a single day. Of course I still play terribly, but I can definitely tell Bach is pushing the limits of my memory. Long journey ahead, but I hope we can all keep at it!
@@katttttt Life gets busy, but a year later I'm still practicing (less-or-more consistently) for an hour a day. I learned a few more minuets, I finished the Prelude (I play it on perhaps 1/3 or 1/4 speed), as well as a simple Chopin Prelude (Op28n20) and a Gymnopedie. I also learned how to play some songs that I composed myself a few years ago, after learning how to notate them in music sheet - which I still read at a snail's pace, have to memorize the songs instead. Got pretty decent at switching between maybe half of the scales and can do all 24 major/minor chords (no inversions) on command. Hand independence has developed somewhat if they're both playing even metrics, now practicing 2 on one hand and 3 on the other, brain is mush. My final goal is not to be a performer, but a composer, so the bulk of my learning has been theoretical, currently doing some counterpoint, it's nice. Being comfortable navigating the scales and improvising with them greatly helps with composition, but I still lack intuition when it comes to rhythm, I know how to count my oney-and-a-twoeys, but have no idea how to pick and choose to use them purposefully on my own creations. Overall, would recommend, great fun and I am still surprised daily by the magical properties of memory: The sequence that you barely managed to play today will be fully memorized after a good night's sleep. Good luck on your journey!
I think academics found out fairly recently that this wasn't actually a Bach piece, and considering it's in Bach's Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach, it's not surprising that everyone thought it was his. It sounds just like what Bach would compose for his family.
I am very excited about your English language but you are from China ❤ but you made me excited more playing on piano music of my favourite compositor Johan Sebastian Bach,❤ thank you for playing
I am partial to the major piece purely because it was one of the first flute solos I played as a child, but I think the minor piece is more emotive. I haven’t thought about this in a very long time, but when I was a kid I thought they felt less like variations on a theme, and more like the same idea expressed when the composer was in two very different moods. Hearing them together like this, I think I still feel that way. :). Thanks for this video!
Excellent performance and excellent explanations! I was pleasantly surprised by Lang Lang's fluent English. It'd be nice if Lang Lang could record a CD of some classic (Bach Minuet, Fur Elise, Well Tempered Clavier, Neapolitan, Waltz in B Major, ...) piano music for small kids.
His tempo is interesting. My score is marked allegretto. Most recordings I've seen/heard play a fast allegro or slow vivace. He's about at moderato pace. . . I wonder if he's intentionally playing it slower for purposes of illustration.
That's what is written on the screen, and what Lang Lang says, so no real problem. The music is quite similar, so what goes for one, goes for the other

It's the Bach version played here, Bach made it famous, but later it was discovered that its composer is Christian Petzold. So Bach basically committed plagiarism. Please learn music history before you make a comment.
