Technique is developed. His football awareness is literally out of this world. Watch him read screens, spin away from people to go get RB's, and most impressively get in the air and knock those passes down. He has a high motor thanks to his track history, and he is going to be a very solid player. He can be taught the things he needs to succeed.
I absolutely am. I love that you like that logic. We want you to keep drafting where your strengths are and leave your weaknesses wide open for us to exploit.
Watched all his games - he is so fast he can run down running backs 2/3 his size. BYU had a top 5 defense in 2012 because of him and Van Noy. We will miss him. He reminds me of Richard Dent or one of the Vikings DE's from years gone by. It is his athleticism that sets him apart. He is use to sharp turns at full speed from soccer and track. He also does not have an attitude, which is a plus in this day and age.
This dudes instincts are off the charts. not only in pass rushing but rush defense as well and he xan do a little coverage as well probably the best player in the draft.
One thing that really caught my attention about Ziggy is his on-field IQ. His knowing when to keep thinking throughout the entire play, whether it be recognizing screens, or constantly putting his hands up to bat down passes is extraordinary. Combine that with his athleticism and high motor, the Lions may have found themselves a keeper. If he lives up to his full potential, a starting D-Line of him, Suh AND Fairley will be downright TERRIFYING. GO LIONS!!!
you have to pay attention to his production related to his assignment in the defense..they have him lined up at nose, 2technique, 3 technique, 5 tech, 7tech, they have this guy all over the front. hes very active, uses his hands well, plays with leverage, this guy is legit. he can be a double digit sack producer in the NFL hands down. had he been utilized as an edge player exclusively in BYU he would have definitely had more than 4.5 sacks
A man with a clean slate who is passionate about the game is the best kind of man to have on your team. He's a proven physical specimen, I mean this guy is super fast and strong. My only question is whether or not he's going to be able to develop properly within the Lion's system. I mean they need a starter at DE, and this guy has been playing only 2 years of football altogether, I hope he can get it done.
This guy is a monster. Some guys just have it. So what... he just started playing. To come in and play at that level is remarkable. We're talking ND... Against GT (a top rushing attack)... Senior Bowl. IMO, Miami dropped the ball in getting the speed rusher out of Oregon. This guy right here is special.
hmm...Ansah's play reminds me of Aldon Smith in college. I looked up Smith before he was drafted and at first was underwhelmed - and then I watched him a second time over and saw how good he was with gap discipline, containing backside, etc. Ansah's play isn't flashy but he's making a lot of the important plays. he's playing as a 3-4 DE and makes the plays (run stopping) necessary for that position, but is athletic enough to be lined up at outside LB in 3-3 and 2-4 alignments
...And he racked up all of this in less than 1 full season, 2 years after playing his first football EVER, and never having been a starter until this year.
Guys, check out his closing speed at the 3.05 mark..........SICK!! I really he hope he pans out in our scheme. I'm actually curious to see how he plays when plays begin to "break down." I think his closing speed will become a tremendous asset in those situations trying to chase Rodgers, Cutler, and Ponder.
Another thing I love about this kid is his IQ. Watch the tape carefully at 4:16...he totally sniffs out the screen pass and makes an aggressive tackle behind the LOS. A lesser player would have straight chased the QB and taken himself out of the play. Ziggy kept himself in it. Very nice.
Wow... Suh: requires double team. Fairley: Requires double team. Ansah: Requires double team. Detroit's D-line is returned to best in the league with this pickup. He's a perfect fit.
Watch 4:17, he understood that it was a screen pass and backed off and take the pursuit. Very Smart player, constantly doubled and has very good instincts on the field. He's just raw, but the right coaching staff could fix that.
No complaints at all, and I'm not at all implying he is a dirty player, but To be a successful defensive lineman in the nfl you need a nasty streak between the whistles. Ziggy has that and I love it!
Great pick up for the Lions. He'll make an instant impact. How do you double Suh now? Now we gotta get Jamar Taylor, Justin Hunter, & Larry Warford or Teavon Armstead
Glover Quin is going to make out CB's sooooo much better. The one thing we didn't have was a true cover safety. We do now. Delmas and Houstan won't have to worry about the whole field themselves. That Defense is going to be a solid force. Not phenomenal, but definitely solid enough to make a small run in the playoffs.
He fits KVB's bill perfect. HIgh motor..consistant,relentless effort, GREAT RUN STUFFER...not to mention he's playing as an 3-4 DE at BYU..an undersized one at that
The title doesn't say "BYU defensive highlights". It's about Ezekial Ansah and he can only do so much. He's one guy on that field out of 11 and he's got a job to do. And I'd have to say he's doing his job pretty damn well. Not his fault the linebackers aren't stopping the run sooner and the coverage is weak
I would love to see them pick up Dwight Freeney at the right price, cause he would be a great mentor for Ziggy and Devin Taylor, and he can teach them his slick spin move.
Not a starter? He will have better stats this season than what our both DE' starters had last season. He has starter written all over him. Our starting DE's gave us 56 tackles 13 sacks last season by Avril and KVB. With all the attention Suh and Fairley will get, aint no doubt he gets at least 10 sacks this season.
I would. Astounding speed/size/strength/reach. I saw this kid play live in several games, and what he did was astounding. No matter where he is drafted, he will be the most valuable player drafted this year. He makes Te'O look pointless.
Potential to be a starter is there. Some hard work, and good coaching can take a man with physical tools, and make him a starter. Now will he be a starter? That is a different story.
I watched the Senior bowl and no other player was even close to as dominant on the field...Schwartz draft this guy at 5, JPP was a so called project so were others....Moore, Werner, all their schemes centered on their talents, not the case with Ansah, he is leaps and bounds better......he will explode in the NFL
When they take him off the 3 point stance hes a monster tho ... That's y id love to see him in a 3-4 and see how he does as a line back just for the hell of it lol .. That being said hes a monster anyway :pp
I like him..he is very similar to Pierre Paul or Justin Tuck..same size and body..he maybe even smarter..he will possibly be the next Robert Porsher for us...
Doesn't play low enough too many times he gets caught standing straight up, but he has a great motor and he has the size and athleticism. Better technique in the right scheme and he'll be a problem.
Jason Jones should be fine. He's bigger and younger than Vanden Bosch. Ziggy is bigger and faster than Avril and looks like he is pretty damn good at stopping runs. I think theyre better than they were last year, a lot is going to depend on Fairley. If he starts showing he's as much of a threat as Suh, the DE's are gonna have a pretty easy job.
Yeah, but the D Line is still VERY strong without KVB. I will agree that Avrill is a big loss, so hopefully we draft some LBs. Jarvis Jones would have been a nice addition
Jim Washburn is going to turn Ezekiel Ansah into the next Javon Kearse....MARK MY WORDS! I am not a fan who gets overhyped on prospects. I just know talent when I see it. I know what a good football player when I see one. In 2011 I stated many times that JJ Watt was the BEST- NON quarterback in the draft. I remember watching tape on JJ and seeing a bigger faster version of Kyle Vanden Bosch. I was right. Ansah is going to surprise some people. MARK MY WORDS!!!
Some might see him as raw. and that is true to an extent..but I see him as someone that you dont have to teach any bad habits out of. he hasnt had enough time to really develop any.
I don't see why people are so high on him. This does not impress me. With fairley and suh, a decent de will suffice. We can get one in second round with this draft class. Milliner impressed me on every play I seen. As a lions season ticket holder, I would not like to draft ziggy
Yea ... Cant w8 for this season .. Fairley will finally get the FULL start bc Williams and Hill are gone ... Then cant think right now but pretty sure we got Wille back and Taylor in the draft along with Jason Jones ... Without Freeney I think it will be Jones Fairley Suh and Ansah .. with A good 2ndary now! CANT W8!
Not in love with the pick at all, but you can't blame the Lions here. They tried to trade down and couldn't apparently. All the tackles were gone and we need a DE more than a CB so I guess it makes sense. But man if this guy is a bust then it's same old Lions! Just because he is athletic and a "freak of nature", doesn't mean he is going to be good. It's like taking Lebron and putting him in the NFL and expecting him to be a great WR. Hoppe I'm wrong and Ansah works out.
Fuck yeah! If Ansah is available(Jax could take him) Reggie will pll the trigger. Otherwise? I don't like Floyd. I would take Star first. Then there is the fact that a great OL will be there. Flynn and McFadden will love that. I love my Raiders, and Reggie is doing this just right. My brother said something I really appreciated. He said, "Let Reggie do his job." AMEN.
If you're not first, you're last. The Lions going 0-16 is no different in my eyes than the bears losing the superbowl to the colts. Both teams lost. And The Bears haven't won a superbowl win since 85. Forget playoff appearances (Bears didn't even make the playoffs this year anyway).
I loved watching Ziggy at BYU! I wish him the best of luck and hope he has a wonderful NFL Career.
Technique is developed. His football awareness is literally out of this world. Watch him read screens, spin away from people to go get RB's, and most impressively get in the air and knock those passes down. That closing speed, Great Instinct, and Work Ethic... Can't go wrong
you have to pay attention to his production related to his assignment in the defense..they have him lined up at nose, 2technique, 3 technique, 5 tech, 7tech, they have this guy all over the front. hes very active, uses his hands well, plays with leverage, this guy is legit. he can be a double digit sack producer in the NFL hands down. had he been utilized as an edge player exclusively in BYU he would have definitely had more than 4.5 sacks

The lions are gonna have the best d line in the league.
hmm...Ansah's play reminds me of Aldon Smith in college. Hes gonna destroy the charts at the combine and be a top ten pick
...And he racked up all of this in less than 1 full season, 2 years after playing his first football EVER, and never having been a starter until this year.
The play at 4:20 is AWESOME - he isn't fooled by the screen, even though it was specifically designed against him to make him run upfield.
i knw man. this guy has sooo much potential. but i dnt think RM will draft him so high just bcs of how raw he is. but fingers crossed.
I think Ansah is a great pick. Hopefully, along with Suh and Fairely they can get a few sacks this year. GO LIONS !!!
in those last two place when he was at nose in the goal line he was unstoppable
This dude is a BEAST!!
Non stop motor, kid is a beast. He would look and play like a monster in the silver and black..
I like the logic behind this. Drafting in an area we are already strong in...The Lions D Line is going to be good
Yup, as a Bears fan I like that logic too. Quite a bit of playoff appearances those Lions had.
Another thing I love about this kid is his IQ. Watch the tape carefully at 4:16...he totally sniffs out the screen pass and makes an aggressive tackle behind the LOS. A lesser player would have straight chased the QB and taken himself out of the play. Ziggy kept himself in it. Very nice.

Watch #14 at 1:14. A sack in with two o-line men. This guy's high motor makes me pumped for this season.
No complaints at all, and I'm not at all implying he is a dirty player, but To be a successful defensive lineman in the nfl you need a nasty streak between the whistles. Ziggy has that and I love it!
Damn, this guy is everywhere.
Great pick up for the Lions. He'll make an instant impact. How do you double Suh now? Now we gotta get Jamar Taylor, Justin Hunter, & Larry Warford or Teavon Armstead
excellent observation. He has instincts for the game.
Everyone looks good in the highlights
Doesn't get off the block well but he is relentless and doesn't give up!
so glad we got a de instead of a cb.. i feel like houston will be revived next season and jonte green has yet to show his true potential
That Cat is FAST. When he learns what to do he'll be a beast. Detroit at #5.
He does have a high motor, but honestly, its easier to pass rush with two guys covering you.
He fits KVB's bill perfect. HIgh motor..consistant,relentless effort, GREAT RUN STUFFER...not to mention he's playing as an 3-4 DE at BYU..an undersized one at that
Ziggy is definitely top 10 lol I hope the Raiders can trade back and get him he'll help out a lot
Zeke is great man. I would love to have him at #5.
Looking at the title, I did not think this video would be in English at first.
nano kapit thank you!
knocks down a lot of passes, hopefully he can do that a lot on Sunday afternoons.
The title doesn't say "BYU defensive highlights". It's about Ezekial Ansah and he can only do so much. He's one guy on that field out of 11 and he's got a job to do. Im on board with that.

4:17 that is some great instinct right there

He will for sure be in the top 10 which sucks for my dolphins... I'd be happy to get him at 3 upside is ALL PRO
Potential to be a starter is there. Some hard work, and good coaching can take a man with physical tools, and make him a starter. Now will he be a starter? That is a different story.
4:17 marks a VERY nice read.

Great use of hands, great hips....and a FUCKING MOTOR!!!!

Lions D-line has potential to be scary good.
Especially when you consider the fact that just 4 years ago he had never even seen a game, and 2 years ago had never played a game.
the lions are gonna be good this year go lions
Give me a scenario on how the giants would be able to get ziggy ansah.

One of the Vikings first two picks.
4:19 shows me something wow great awareness
Some might see him as raw. and that is true to an extent..but I see him as someone that you dont have to teach any bad habits out of. he hasnt had enough time to really develop any.
but w/e the way he gets off blocks is amazing .. Now lets pic up Freeney and call it the best D line in all of football (:
Eagles' fan here. I want him. He better not make it to 5.
this dude is a cross between bubba smith and lawrence taylor. he's a freak.
And why would you say that? Lived here my entire life.
He doesn't even know what a two, three, or four point stance is. Scary how good he could be once he gets it.
I don't see why people are so high on him. This does not impress me. With fairley and suh, a decent de will suffice. We can get one in second round with this draft class. Milliner impressed me on every play I seen. As a lions season ticket holder, I would not like to draft ziggy
Great pick up for the Detroit lions!!
Defense wins championships!!
I wanted Ansah, Mingo or the Guard from MC
Wish The Jags can pick him at no 2 time to bring back the old school pass rusher Jaguars just like they had Stroud Henderson, and Spicer
Your clearly not watching the same video...it shows his best plays of the season....
Suh, Fairley and Ansah....dominate...
Willie Young is solid.
Well this conversation is very intellectually stimulating :p
Welcome to Detroit Ziggy !!!
he wont be in the top ten picks hopefully we're lucky or if we trade back and he's still there we can snag him!
He wore 3D glasses to the draft. That should say it all
Here's the deal we get Ziggy you get Sharrif Floyd or Demontre Moore!
J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS COME ON ZIGGY WELCOME ABOARD!!!!!
CANT W8!
He is a beast. But Everyone looks good against IDAHO, SAN JOSE STATE, and NEW MEXICO STATE. For example where most of these highlights come from.
he reminds me of jason pierre paul
Man he is scary He could be great or he could be horrible, he hasn't really played football or been that good
8:25 And they say he's no Jadaveon Clowney lol
Not in love with the pick at all, but you can't blame the Lions here. They tried to trade down and couldn't apparently. Hoppe I'm wrong and Ansah works out.
THat fucking scared me to death
Oh stop with that, that's what was said when Avril Suh Williams/Fairly and Van Den Boesch were on the same line and they didn't live up to the hype.
Detroit we coming
#5 overall to Detroit!
Dude started playing football in 2010 and some of you consider him a bust loooool
If you're not first, you're last. The Lions going 0-16 is no different in my eyes than the bears losing the superbowl to the colts. Both teams lost. And The Bears haven't won a superbowl win since 85. Forget playoff appearances (Bears didn't even make the playoffs this year anyway).
