Thank you Canada for Neil Young, Cowboy Junkies, Joni Mitchell, k.d.lang, Jane Siberry, Robbie Robertson, The Wailin' Jennys..... the list goes on. Keep 'em coming Canada. Blessings
Michael Timmins is a sneaky good guitar player...he busts out those effects pedals and does that downpick thing that is so HIM...just an extraordinary band that continues to make vital music. It goes without saying that Mr. Timmins is a great lyricist and Margo is a treasure -- one of my favorite voices in all of music. Margo graciously gave me an autograph once as I mumbled some nervous fan nonsense. She touched me on the right shoulder and said, "thank you." I shall never wash that shoulder henceforth.
Cowboy Junkies doing Neil Young. In freakin' Liverpool. Talk about things you don't expect. It sounds fabulous. One of many reasons I love being Canadian is because these guys make me proud to be one!
Not that far-fetched. Canada was a protectorate of the UK and still has the Queen on the money. Liverpool is representative of both working blue collar and the port of departure for tens of thousands if not millions of emigres from Ireland and the UK. Love Neil Young and the Cowboy Junkies!
I've loved Neil all my life, he's painted songs and chords of my life. I have never even heard of the Cowboy Junkies until this evening stumbling on Powder finger and now this. Very few people out perform Neil on his own songs, except perhaps Trio, Prelude but these people - and with her rich voice. Another light has just been turned onto that painting. How could I have missed this for all this time. Truly wonderful.
It kind of sucks when you stumble across a band as good as this and have to wonder what else am I missing. What's worse is when you were into a band this good but somehow let it slip off your radar and years later after rediscovering it your having to kick yourself in your own ass for letting that happen.
What a knockout performance. I've heard Neils at least a million times and this lady comes along and blows me away. She's amazing. Gonna get into her and her group.
Margo Timmons singing is angelic. The rest of the Junkies are awesome. Cowboy Junkies cover of Neil Young’s Helpless is my favorite song. I play it daily.
This is brilliant. Phrasing, singing, mixing a piano accordion in there, guitar and drums. Thank you CJs for your help during this lockdown in Melbourne...
The Cowboy Junkies Helpless is the Greatest Love Song ever written. Margo’s voice is Angelic. I find it hard to believe that she is 60 years old and doesn’t look a day over 30 years old.
So glad I remember seeing the Cowboy Junkies, at a beautiful old big theater 🎭 in Bellingham, by the border, the Canadian Border, where we went in 1988. Love Neil, love Canada 🇨🇦
Margo is a vision...a treasure. Saw the Junkies on July 9, 2018, in Fort Collins, Colo. They still have it. Margo's hair is white and her voice is golden.
Margo goes on stage conservatively dressed sets down and with pure talent blows us all away. No wild gyration or army of barely dressed dancers are necessary when you have talent
This is a wonderful version of a great tune by a band for which there are no words strong enough to describe how much I love them. Long live the Junkies!
This is beyond brilliant. I'm also super impressed that they managed to get Blakey from "On the Buses" to play the accordian. I didn't know he had it in him. You lucky audience....
Suffice to say that I’m a huge fan of Neil Young’s music, but the Cowboy Junkies have infused this with a magic all their own. This rendition is currently my favorite version of “Helpless.”
The Cowboy Junkies Helpless is the Greatest Love Song ever written. Margo’s voice is angelic. I can’t believe she is 60 years old and doesn’t look a day over:30 years old. Margo is my fantasy woman. Michael writes and composes some of the greatest songs in the world.
Terrific cover of the Neil Young ClCassic!!.....You can't beat the Cowboy Junkies......Canadian Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.....still performing....I believe!!....if they are I hope they come to Charleston,SC!!
Damn......... I was a Cowboy Junky way back in the 90's living in Germany.....then they suddenly got lost in my fast-paced, moving swiftly through life-life. How nice to happen upon this by shear circumstance..... :D I now have a reason to sift through some wonderful reminisces I haven't visited in several decades. Thank you for the pleasure of your music. ;)
Cowboy Junkies covers always seem to be a little sweeter than the originals. Who have thought that adding an accordion would make an old song sound so new.
@@Jumbofreddy They have lots of their own songs, some of which are excellent. But they have a gift of taking other people's great songs and [putting just enough of their own twist on them for their covers that the song somehow becomes their own. In sum ... some of their best stuff IS "covers". They are a spectacular cover band in that they make other's tunes their own rather than just replicate the originals.

Neil young until now I could take or leave depending on my state of mind sober or drunk hence I did not know this was one of his. I thought it was new and had to look and listen. I use you tube music as backing to the games I play and if something comes along that grabs me i go have a look. her voice is very good I like it enough to add a like which is not usual for me. You missed Rush!!!!
And Leonard Cohen!!!!!
Indeed 😊@@rainerfassbinder2827
The Band...
The great thing about a British audience is that they are quiet, no whooping to kill the vibe.
I guess you weren't around for the Beatles...
@@Kermit1953TS They were teenagers
Also, Whooping can take thinks to another level.
@@giovannimannelli2158 They were female or latent homosexual teenagers to be more specific. lol

Margo's voice is what got me into Cowboy Junkies. Timmins' guitar is what keeps me there.

Margo ever sing with Neil, or Leonard Cohen?
I agree!!
They cover powderfinger too.
Then there are "The Arrogant Worms"!

Mark Fisher just like Joe Cockers version of With a little help from my friends. Joe gave it wings. rip Joe, lovely crazy freak.
K.D. Lang does a great cover of Helpless.

They outperformed Lou Reed on Sweet Jane back in the ‘80s, which launched their career. Pride of Canada.
I've only seen 3 human beings who can sing like this sitting down; you are witnessing an extraordinary talent guys
A legendary Canadian band covering a Canadian legend. It was a great place to grow up. Good, talented people. Beautiful.
What a knockout performance. I've heard Neils at least a million times and this lady comes along and blows me away. She's amazing. Gonna get into her and her group.
Cowboy Junkies is fertile ground...huge catalog. Brand new album (July 2018) called "All This Reckoning" is dark, sad, and beautiful.
She performed beautifully. THANK YOU FOR SHARING ❤
I’m there with you. Hope they will come anywhere close to Cincinnati
Ditto here. So looking forward to seeing them in concert next month.
I correct myself, another perfectly written song perfect covered/interpreted. Love u Junkies.

Holly Cow, what a rendition of this song!
Love the accordion. Reminds me of Garth Hudson playing in The Last Waltz.
That piano accordion is just mesmeric, the whole cover is superb.

I can't even explain what these musicians do !!!! Amazing
Long time Cowboy Junkies fan ❤️
There is a certain complex feeling that rises up when witnessing something perfectly done and this is one. Bravo.

New Sennheiser headphones for birthday; came immediately to the Canadian church (Trinity Sessions) and then here. Splendid work.
I count my blessings to be a witness to this miracle.
I must thank the Junkies and Neil for this ..........this is more like psalm... and i love this

Exactly right - their music always breathes as a result.
"There is a town in North Ontario"......and the rest is history. WELL DONE!
brilliant song, even more brilliant lyrics (perhaps the most beautiful ever written), and a masterful interpretation. Awesome Junkies!
I cry the best happy cry of my life thank you for ever

Beautiful rendition of a cool ol' song.
ive never heard this with accordian before-- sounds pretty good.
Fantasztikus! MARIE beautiful, love song. THANK you! KING!!!!!!!
Lyrics: Helpless
There is a town in north Ontario
With dream comfort memory to spare,
And in my mind I still need a place to go,
All my changes were there.
Blue, blue windows behind the stars,
Yellow Moon on the rise,
Big birds flying across the sky,
Throwing shadows on our eyes.
Leave us helpless, helpless, helpless.
Helpless, helpless, helpless.
Helpless, helpless, helpless.
Blue, blue windows behind the stars,
Yellow Moon on the rise,
Big birds flying across the sky,
Throwing shadows on our eyes.
Leave us helpless, helpless, helpless.
Helpless, helpless, helpless.
Helpless, helpless, helpless.
Baby can you hear me know?
The chains are locked and locked
and tied across the door.
Baby sing with me somehow.
Helpless, helpless, helpless.
Helpless, helpless, helpless.
Helpless, helpless, helpless.
