I'm a white guy born in Canada and I work a part time job with a lot of Indians from Punjab that are relatively new to Canada. Most of them have horrible English. I can't even have a proper conversation with most of them, and have to speak very slowly and use extremely basic words, or they won't understand what I'm trying to tell them. I have no idea how they're even allowed here. And most of them don't even try to improve their English and just prefer to speak amongst their fellow Indians in their native language chatting amongst themselves - they do not want to branch out and talk outside of their clique groups (so there is very much a "us against you" vibe from them where they don't seem to care to assimilate or ever speak in English) this causes a lot of tension between them and other non-Indians - there is a huge divide.
And the majority of them do not even like it here because of the colder weather and very high cost of living. I get the vibe from most of them that they absolutely hate being here and are now stuck.

bro you are being too optimistic. you think that this is going to be Punjab's 1991 moment where Punjabi youth demand reforms and industrialisation. I afraid the feudal landholding class is just too strong they will oppose industrialisation till last moment. More and more radicalisation of youth on identity politics will happen. Govt should find new destinations in Europe and South America.

The welcoming attitude of Canadians towards immigrants got thrown down the drain because of the uncontrolled immigration - especially from India and Punjab. Even previous Indian immigrants here do not want to see more immigration because there are simply no houses left for people live, no doctors available for healthcare, traffic is the worst, and prices are going up everywhere.

The part of the comments made by the immigration consultant is not correct! “The Canadian economy runs because of monetary contributions of international students” -rough translation in English. This reflects the poor level of understanding, false narrative, and desperation media, students and immigration consultants have about economic trends and job. Advanced economies including Canada will be more tech intensive for its survival in the future, reducing the necessities of unskilled/low skilled jobs. So the “students” whose primary intent is doing things other than studies, will find themselves at extreme odds. Please don’t be under the impression that it’s entirely political!

2 months later. He's back for good.
He got scammed by an another Indian over there. Somehow managed to get back 60-70% of his investment.
Can't imagine the bad luck he went through. Life teaches lessons. Overall i think he's glad to be back, and even I'm relieved i got back a hard working employee. Got to give him a raise now so that he doesn't think of going anywhere anymore!
The situation is really bad according to him. No guaranteed jobs, too much struggle and high cost of living.

Punjab’s Canada dream became Canada’s nightmare.
It also became a nightmare for these poor students themselves and people coming from Punjab and elsewhere.
They were lied to by immigration consultants.
What Mr. Malhotra is saying in this video is incorrect:
    1. Canada’s economy is not being run by international students. It’s a massive exaggeration and a baseless claim. Many students are told this and they somehow start feeling way too important just to be woken up by a rude shock of reality. That’s unfair to them !
    2. This change is not political. This change is there to stay. This rise in student population was mainly allowed to compensate for post covid labor shortages. Sorry to be blunt but for Canada these students were low wage unskilled workers. Their $20,000 fee might be important to that cheap college but not even a drop in the bucket for a G-10 economy. They all were sent to diploma level studies at cheap, low ranking colleges. None of them were recruited in 4 year bachelor or Maters level degrees in universities. Immigration consultants knew that. How can one expect to land PR from a private 3 room college or at best a community college studying some 6-12 months HR diploma and working minimum wake job at McDonald’s while Canadian and international student university Graduates with degrees in business, IT and engineering are struggling.
That said, the next government is expected to be of Conservatives. So please make a guess yourself.
What he is saying is just based in his own opinions. Please please research the data on jobs, economy and cost of living before taking any decisions which can cost you not just a lot of money but many years of your precious youth wasted chasing an unrealistic dream just to be back to square one empty handed.

Canada have a far smaller population than India, we cannot take everyone that wanted to come here, if we take in too many, that can make conditions here as bad or worse than your home country. A student visa is a permit to allow you to study here, then hopefully, armed with the knowledge of the education, you will go home and make the best of it. It must not be a back door way for you to jump the queue to get in as immigrant. The rules were changed because there were too many of you abusing it and is a right of any country to change the rules. India have the same rights. We do not have the jobs or housing for all of you and we should not be supporting you here forever through welfare. The Muslims already made us wise to that trick.

I have met some punjabis in Australia who cant even speak proper english... Only prefer to stay in their community.. speak very limited english. No importance on education even after coming here... dont know why they come.... they are hardworking bo doubt but thoda padai pe dhayan de to acha hai... I am not against anyone.. just want their best....
