Oh my god! I feel the smell of Haldi, Marigold, Roses, hear a lot of chit-chat of beautiful motherly ladies in silk saris, with a sacred fire burning, decorated with fresh Mango leaves, sandalwood... in the center.... This music invariably takes me to a the core Indian ritual - the Hindu wedding. Generations of Indians got married to this one man's music! This was the god of music reincarnated in the blessed city of Benaras. Blessed to have heard him live on a few occasions..I consider myself touched by the beauty of the universe...

Firt time I heard this in a radio station online from USA. I have searched a lot and here it is; masterpiece...preserved generation to generation from ancient times. Sounds and notes that fly from people to people, culture to culture and finds place in human hearts. Music rised from humble village houses, to the skies of ancient cities, beats the strong mountain winds , slightly changes her form from India, Iran, Syria, Turkey, Balkans. It went through rivers and woods, hills and deserts, and it came to me like a gift from old times. A god of music that visits people time to time in flesh and humble form.
Each blow of his breath seems talking something to your heart, such a melodious talking which you don't understand fully...... and you wonder what it might be..... and want to hear it more seriously so that you can know what he is talking about in such a beautiful sound....But even after 100 times listening to this raaga, you still want one more time and I'll understand.... That's the beauty of the great Bismillah Khan. Love and respect!

I met Ustad Bismillah Khan in 1988 in Atlanta and that concert was one of the best day of my life. May Allah grant him the most high position in Janat. I miss him a lot.
The shehnai can be played by an individual but Usatd Bismillah Khan used his troup to play the drone and also the melody when he needed a breather. The annoyance that you beautifully mentioned is so much of hid sound that we heard for years and years. That was his trademark. May
