Ultimate jugalbandis have been gifted to us by these two legends. Perfect unison, perfect understanding, perfect renditions. All of those were extremely popular in their times. Sadly, we hardly get to listen to those iconic performances these days. The younger generation might not even be aware that such gems exist in our musical heritage.

A very increadible fusion by our great legends ustadji and panditji .. I am very much priviliged to introduce myself as a citizen of India.
Whenever I hear this jugalbandi I feel that I had lost in the ocean of peace. Music is a form of meditation and a media of peace and concentration.....A spellbounding recording..

This is the jugalbandhi, which I listened again, again and again ---, on Emirates' sound system, from Seattle to Dubai.
For 14 hours non stop flight, Allah knows how many times I listened this masterpiece again and again.
In the skies, I thanked Allah for Ustad Bismillahkhan's life on Earth.
Pundit V G Jog is superb.
Allah ki Niyamat Shaandar hai ji on both of Masters.
    Subhaan Allah

His greatness as a musician is beyond any doubt. A shehnai player of his calibre is yet to appear. But he was also a great human being. As a devout Muslim, he prayed five times a day and did not give any concerts in the days of Muharram. But he was also perfectly secular in outlook and happily performed in Hindu temples. Such combinations of great musician and great human being are indeed very rare.

No matter how many times one listens to this great master one is never satisfied. The raga Behag evokes strong emotions in me:my old father(he was 65 when I was born)would hum charming Kambhoji into my 4 yr-old ears. When I listen to Bismillah(even the name evokes mellifluousness, doesn't it?)doing the Jaiajaivanti I start crying -- reaching out to my happy childhood with my softspoken and sweet singer father of mine. The Deshakshi song of Swati Tirunal brings about the same joy and sadness as B

I HAVE HEARD USTAD MANY A TIMES. HE WAS CHILDLIKE IN HIS DISPOSITION, A RARE GEM, BORN ONCE IN A CENTURY. HE WAS TRULY BHARAT RATNA.

This is brilliant music. The way the two instruments of melody just don't clash at all in anyway although their styles vary quite a lot and the tabla just binds it up so well Masha Allah all three of them are truly blessed.

South India's Muthuswami Dikshitar goes to Kashi and comes across Jaijaiwanti; he comes back home and pens a lovely "Chetashri Balakrishnam" in a slightly modified called "Dwijavanti" and fills the hearts of serious Carnatic music rasikas far and wide with joy and cheer. There is a song "Akhilandeshwari" in Dwijavanti wrongly attributed to the Dikhshitar great; however, it is beautiful and popular. Even the great Lalgudi Jayaraman played that song often, though, Madurai Mani Iyer never sang it as he went on to sing Chetashri for long time. MDR for some reason never sang it. Bismillah Khan remains the very best of our Hindustani music. In the nowadays India one must pay respect to maha ustads such as Bismillah Khan while living in mostly Hindu Kashi went on singing Hindustani songs mostly on Hindu gods even as he minded his religious business praying at a mosque nearby his residence. No one bothered; no marches on the streets; all happily lived their own lives; now Sabarimala and all these religious conflicts out in sad display even in the progressive state of Kerala. Even his stage demeanor was the most placentious. Every now then he would sport a white Gandhi cap. Even in multi colours his cap had the Gandhi cap design any way. He looked magnificent in any colour. Shehnai has that innate design in its sounds to remind the listener of the life and sounds and yes the dust and poverty of North Indian villages of innocent, poor and loving people. There is so much sadness from poverty, and yet there is cheerfulness in their meager lives. As the crescendo doubles up that is what we are reminded of: even in despair there is a lot to cheer : just being alive, I believe.

In my opinion he should have figured there as well as he contributes equally to the pleasure and joy one gets on listening to this. He is briefly mentioned in the uploader's comments though...If possible lets see his name up there where it should be.

    1.
Ustad Bismillah Khan was a devout Shia Muslim, but he represented the Indian variety of Islam developed by the great Sufi saints. This variety of Islam is based great spiritual values. It preaches love for all human beings irrespective of their religion. Getting in tune with God through poetry and music is a part of this Islam, as of Sikhism and most sects of Hinduism. Great Muslim saints like Kabir, Shah Husain and Bulleh Shah openly condemned religious fundamentalism and intolerance.

In those older days, during one program, some one questioned Pt. Jog & marhum Ustadji "Aap dono me badhiya kaun hai ?" Ustadji turant bole < bhai kyaa betuka sawaal hai; Panditji se badhkar kaun hoga ?" Kaise suroon se khelte hain taroon par" ... Panditji muskaaye, " Jee janaab, ham to taaron par khelte hain , par aap to suroon ko foonk se hi udaa dete hain. ham, aapke paasang me bhi nahi aa sakte.....:) ye saadgi aur samaz aaj ke kalaakaaron me kahaan ???

I can hear the different peices... so melodious. Love the way it takes us through the introduction and then some. It begins speaking to the heart right away.
