    I like prohibition-era cocktails. Most of them are simple, honest drinks made from not the most exotic ingredients, but rather whatever was available.

    One of my favorites - especially timely for guests that claim to not enjoy gin

      Could not agree more. Like many, MANY recipes Leandro shares, you can use this to re-introduce people to a spirit they think they don’t like.

    I think Death & Co does a nice spin and uses Lavender bitters to give a little floral flavor. It makes me think of bees pollinating flowers when I drink it.

      Tried this and really believe that the original is better and more properly colored. Love Death & Co., though.

      I use a bar spoon of violet liqueur in mine! My reasoning was bees pollinating flowers too! Small world

    Definitely my favorite cocktail to make for guests. I make a virgin version replacing the gin with botanical infused syrup and club soda, for the drivers and the kids.

    It's a great drink! That's the drink that got my girlfriend in to gin drinks. As you said it's a gin sour with honey instead of simple. That's never a bad thing

    I just made a pair of these for my wife and I, and wow! That is a very tasty cocktail. My wife absolutely loved it. I've recently gotten more into making cocktails at home, and your channel is a huge inspiration for me. Thanks for what you do.

    You could use that lemon peel as a mustache saver... keep the stache nice and clean

    This is such an amazing cocktail. I use agave nectar instead of honey and it still works.

    I've turned so many people onto this cocktail. Many are wary but the first sip ends that. It's good to have a beefeater 1.75 on hand!

    I was messing around mixing literally last night and I discovered this combination except using white rum instead of gin. I called it "Ambition" because of how the Sweet-spice-sour-sweet flavors hit you in that order. A drop or two of saline solution also helps.

    If honey is your predominant flavor, then I suggest altering the recipe. I use 3 oz gin. Also - have you tried this with agave syrup rather than honey syrup. It makes an amazing cocktail.

      You can change your base spirit, sweetener, acid and still make a great cocktail, but it isn't a Bee's Knees without honey, gin and lemon. He uses a 3:1 honey syrup, so it's pretty honey forward. I just picked up honey to make the syrup today, and i'm having this with dinner. I'm going to use Empress 1908 though, for a different visual presentation.

  • @HenriFaust
    @HenriFaust 2 роки тому +1

    Hey, I tried this recipe, and it's good! I used your 3:1 honey syrup recipe too. In the future I will decrease the honey just a bit though. Maybe 2:1 honey syrup?

    Seems like the honey you use would make a huge difference. It seems like there's room for experimentation!

      yes the type of honey and it's flavor profile are very important!

      This! I just used a very funky home made honey from a friend. It completely dominates the drink, but i am not mad at all, love the honey 😀

    Can you suggest a peeler brand you use for your orange/lemon twists? Have a small one at home but yours cuts like butter and in much more beautiful strands

      James Williams I use the one mr Tolmach also uses in his videos. It's the 'wsm peeler' No complains yet.

    • @TheEducatedBarfly
      @TheEducatedBarfly  6 років тому

      Yes! I use this OXO peeler: amzn.to/2QqcCQA Best part about it is it has a blade you can change. IN a lot of videos I'm also using his one: amzn.to/2x9SQ2P also good, cheaper but you can't change the blade. Get the first one and remember the quality of the peel is also due to your peeling technique (yes there is one) and how ripe the fruit is when you peel

    Huh, this is very similar to a drink I accidentally made but now love. 1.5oz gin (Beefeater preferred for the citrus notes), 1oz triple sec, 1oz lemon juice, 1oz simple syrup. Shake with ice strain into glass with some fresh ice.

    could someone explain why he wipes the lemon twist against the glass handle? but also the glass rim? will the lemon peel taste really transfer that easily?

    • @TheEducatedBarfly
      @TheEducatedBarfly  3 роки тому +1

      Yes it will but it’s mainly for the aroma. Smell is 85% of taste

    Sacrilege, but an Amarena cherry is a great touch...or a sugar coated peel.

    • @TheEducatedBarfly

      The smaller ones are repurposed fever tree ginger beer bottles, the green one is a repurposed Vida Mezcal bottle and the clear ones are repurposed Sobieski Vodka Bottles

    Same as Michael Hannaford, whats your ratio for Honey syrup?
    Is it 1-1 like sugar syrup or is there a different ratio that you follow?

    Great the tasting part.
    Why you use that gin? you usually use Beefeater GIN.

    • @TheEducatedBarfly
      @TheEducatedBarfly  6 років тому +1

      I use many different Gins, Plymouth is an excellent choice for this drink and beefeater works in it as well.
