This is multi-layered history of BTS. Table scene=Blood, Sweat, &Tears, couch=DNA, chairs at the end=Just One Day, etc... V and RM were both insulted on VLives, V for his glasses, and RM for using the filters. That's why V wore his glasses in the MV, and RM used the filters. etc… BTS has been talked about lately as becoming Westernized, so there are tons of Korean traditional references. Almost everything in this MV has a meaning for BTS, and we are still deciphering it. PS I did watch your BTS vlog, and giggled all the way through. You did an excellent job on it!
I thought the table scene was a throw-back to BS&T, too (and still might be), but a South African Army mentioned that there's a famous work of art where headless statues are sitting around a table (while wearing African-print suits). The artist is named Yinka Shonibare, if you want to look it up!
Yes! DKDKTV put out a video explaining 'IDOL'. But I think you guys got most of the references. The music is a mix of Afro-korean beats and the video is heavily Korean, with South African and korean choreography. But the VideO is explained. You don't have to do a reaction video but it'll be cool to watch the video. Love your reaction guys!
Also, they should watch this one from xceleste she explains other points where DKDKTV explain the Korean side only. ua-cam.com/video/CWm-Mbiz7Fg/v-deo.html&ab_channel=xCeleste
What you said about the replication of them is interesting. One of Jungkook's lines is, "There are tens of hundreds of myself in me," and Taehyung continues it with, "I welcome another me today." So they're acknowledging the different sides of themselves and accepting them as a part of what makes them them. The entire song is basically them saying they don't care if haters say shit, they love themselves and that's all that matters. Some references to this: Namjoon using the filters because people were telling him they looked too silly, Taehyung's huge glasses are from some telling him not to wear them but he likes them, closeups of Seokjin because some people say he's arrogant about his looks but he's proud of his face and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Those are the ones I'm sure of. Some that I'm not are Yoongi's Snow White sweater because of some comments on how pale he is, Hoseok with that tube man thing because some say he makes too much noise and is spazzy. Jimin and Jungkook I haven't noticed anything personally. Also when Taehyung is kinda struggling to get through the line of people, that's directly talking about people mobbing them at airports.
BTS MVs are always exceptional! V is the definition of beauty and perfection! IDOL is amazing! they are on top of everyone! BTS is the best! there's nothing like BTS! also, there's caption.
There's a video "Idol MV explained by a Korean" from DKDKTV that explains everything, it'd be cool if you guys check it out! Even the rabbit in the moon has a deeper meaning to referring to a Korean myth
I know someone told you guys that the lyrics are not important for the theories but for BTS songs, lyrics are actually really important because they are so meaningful so I hope you can watch them with subtitles.
After 18276 reactions of BTS you guys still don't turn CC on. You're wondering what the lyrics are? Then turn on the subtitles. Easy. Anyways, good reaction. 💜
always love your vlogs! definitely check out BTS IDOL MV Explanation by *xceleste* and IDOL Explained video by *DKDKTV* - there are a ton of Korean cultural references in the MV that many ppl completely miss, or interpret differently, so it's really very interesting. One thing I will say is that in Korea, K-pop singers/groups are called [K-pop] Idols, which is probably the usage of the word they were going for? I can't say for sure, but it's really very fascinating learning & observing the different cultural connotations of words such as "idol" bc I (an American), too, immediately think of religious idols when hearing that word.
You should probably watch with the subs if you wanna understand what they're singing about He doesn't say "don't call me Idol" Also it's not Bollywood it's Actually Korean traditional dance and The song and the video also has South African Influences
To be fair I’m going back to watch the vlog even tho like 7 of those views are from me 😂 also tho not even 30 seconds into the music vid and Alejandra is already dancing 😂❤️ love you guys!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Omg yes been waiting for this since idol came out you guys have such great reactions to BTS you represent everyone of army when your fangirl or fanboy shows hahaha the video had captions but you guys basically spot on got what the message was of the song so props on that and they arent saying "im feeling myself" they are saying "you cant stop me from lovin myself" you guys should watch it with the captions it helps so much
I've never been this early, ah! Love you guys. PS: Like all BTS videos, they have lots of symbolism and messages. I recommend you watch "IDOL explained by a Korean" to fully grasp it, on a video or on your own time!
hey guys! as an indian, i completely understand why you might confuse certain things with bollywood ~ like personally for me the "dungdireuk kungdeururu" part i was surprised korean has those vocalisations too, those are inherent to a lot of indian music haha. but it was inspired by traditional korean + south african elements ! ❤️
Great reaction guys, love seeing you jamming. I couldn't keep still either. They did a nice balance in mixing South Africa and Traditional Korean music, fashion, and dancing. There is a lot of messages, symbols, stories. You are right they borrowed from past video like Airplane, Fire/Not Today, and more.
this is the lyrics You can call him an artist You can call him an idol Or whatever, I do not care He's proud of that I'm free Get off the irony of me He is always himself. I do not care Whatever the reason for his criticism is the same I know who you are / I know what you want He will never change He will never trade. Babbling something I need to work here and take care of my work I can not stop this love for myself. Awesome. Let's face it, like John Woo He is the top star with the spotlight Sometimes he is superman Turns like Anpanman 24h not much Troubled, for him it was a luxury You have to work brilliantly. You love yourself. I love myself, love my fans Love my moves and everything There are dozens, hundreds of personality in me He accepts everything Because after all, all of you are here You simply accept it instead of denying it. No matter how good I am Sometimes I choose the longest way to go round But it's alright, I love myself This time I'm very happy. Acclaim! Get out! I can not stop him from loving me.
Thanks for the reaction guys 💜 amd Idol is actually inspired by soith African beats and culture in general and by korean culture as well,, the choreo has some South african moves like the gwara gwara one and some dance moves r traditional Korean moves.. You probably would enjoy watching "the explanation of IDOL" by DKDKTv.. So react to that video next or when u have some free time 😊
Yess ....gonna makes you addict w IDOL....like me😃 . Tq for react tq for supporting uri Bangtan Seonyandan.... Hopes BTS BigHit watch your react.... GBU . Legends deserve 🤴🏻💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
There’s a version of this song (and soon MV) featuring Nicki Minaj, so i’d like to request you guys react to it. 💜💜 Also for a *COMPLETE* break down of this MV and it’s meaning react to “BTS - Idol Explained by a Korea”. Nonetheless, I love for TidePool reactions 😂😂💜💜💜
As u guys know there is lot of symbolism in the MV and as guys are really appealed by such symbolism......so it will really awesome if u guys know the reasons behind everything happening in the MV. So guys react to bts IDOLS MV explained.
It's possible they've watched your BTS reactions or vlogs before. Some Bts members will check out reaction videos or song/dance covers. They have recognized some famous Kpop reactors at concerts before!
What the song is about-- RM kind of sums it up when he says "you can call me idol/ you can call me artist" -- BTS started out as a hip hop-idol group (idol meaning pop star in korean), and they faced some criticism/ BTS struggled with their identity in the beginning regarding the dichotomous relationship between being real artists, rappers, musicians while being "idols" aka pop stars. But this song, IDOL, they're saying they're both, it doesn't matter, they are who they are authentically as they have always been, hence: "you can't stop me loving myself." This show RM/ BTS did early in their career shows their initial identity struggle on artist-idol: www.dailymotion.com/video/x1uy1ca if you are interested!
i love your reactions! i saw your vlog you guys should do the idolchallenge. there is a video of j-hope himself dancing to the song. also i would suggest you guys watch the explained series by dkdtv where they explain lyrics and symbolism of images.
Thanks for reacting to this. Maybe it's good idea to react to the concept idea of photo shoot it gives a pretty good hint about their identity as idols☺being idols in Korea is not easy especially with no background n come from small company. The drawing belong to them the style of drawing is similar to bon voyage bts i think. All cultural element appear show how bts open minded to their music influence despite they got limited as if tapping in display box by idols pesona stage image. Ppl put their fantasy upon them n wish them to do what they want bts to do with the name of love for me it's kind of obsessive n offensive one. Real self n idols identity should be appreciated whole as one to fully accept who this person is. They r not doll nor do they r perfect flawless human being. Bts try to reach us fans n public as artist although they embrace their identity n background as idols. U can be artist n idols at the same time with respect. They need not to sacrifice their freedom just bcs they r idols ☺respect their right n privacy☺
I think you should've put English subtitles, to understand it better lmao, BTS always have eng subs Edit: Oh and if you wanna understand it more, you can see the DKDKTV video "BTS - IDOL explained by a Korean" And also the xCelest one

I would look up the music video explanation for this because everything was a reference to something. I do mean EVERYTHING, both cultural and personal references throughout. Even some of the lyricism was a play on words. There's many different explanations that are uploaded on BTS videos because of this. You'll have people upload based on the lyrics and the video separately.
