Cy's Logging Truck, Collaboration with RC Works

- Robert from RC Works and I talked about making some toys out of wood. I mailed him wood from my area (Oregon Coast) and he mailed me some wood from his area (Mountains of Colorado). I decided to make a logging truck as that is a very mountainy thing. Go check out his video (see the link below) and see what he made from the wood I sent him!
This was the first time I made something like this and it was challenging but fun! I did put a verse on the deck of the truck and I thought it fit very well. It is 1 Kings 5:6 (NCV), and it says, "So send your men to cut down cedar trees for me… "
I also made up a logging company (Sawing Logs, LLC) and put their name on the doors of the truck and added a hood ornament (a “Z”). I show this at the end of the video while the Cy’s Corner end-of-the-show theme song is playing.
This was great fun and I look forward to making more vehicles!

Very nicely done! One tip; If you drill most of the way through with the hole saw for all the wheels, then flip the board over and drill from that side, you get a clean cut on both sides and the wheels are easily removed from the hole saw too.

Very nice. Growing up in Oregon in the 60s I've seen lots of log trucks and back then there were some old growth that would take only 1 long to fill the back of the truck. Fantastic job as always. I wish I had your patience.
Oh wow! One log filling the entire truck bed, whoa!!!! I haven't seen a truck filled with one like that but I have seen some big trees, especially the redwoods!

That is a really cool project and just simply looks amazing. I think it's great making things when you have limited tools, however your limitation is still far beyond what a lot of others have. With that massive workshop I think you are missing one vital tool, a wood lathe.

Thank you ! And I am truly blessed to have the tools I do! I do have a lathe, (I am very thankful for it!) it is fairly new and I have not used it yet. My husband and I took a turning class a few weeks ago and I am getting ready to start using it once we are all moved to the new shop!

Just the same way as all the rest! Cut small rectangles and glued them to a longer thicker rectangle!
excellent build and it looks great finished if you want to do more model building I watched an 8 part series by a man called kennyearings on you tube might be worth a watch you really are a great all round woodworker always look forward to your next video but most of all have fun doing it

That is a great project. I guess the fine details fit with your intarsia skills. I struggle with the really small fidgety parts, but I am improving.
I made a pair if larger simpler trucks (giant coal mine trucks from www.toymakingplans.com) for my young grandsons and I needed to make 16 large identical wheels. I drilled the hole for the final size of the axle through each wheel blank. I copied Linn's circle cutting jig for the bandsaw, made a circle jig for my spindle sander, and a third jig for the router table to round the edges. Each of the wheels registered to the jigs using the actual axle hole so everything lined up.
Wow, your wheel making technique sounds great. It is like I cheated using the hole saw!!! Small parts are getting harder to deal with, I keep saying I am not going to do anything with small parts anymore and then I end up doing it anyway! I will til I can't I guess!!!

I had so much footage I show at the end (during the end theme song) the verse I put on. It is an awesome verse, talking about sending men to saw logs!!!!
