  • The seagrass meadows around the Maldives are under threat. But the government now plans to place this valuable ecosystem under protection. As well as serving as nurseries for sea life, they act as carbon sinks and protect the atolls from erosion.

I've seen Maldivian luxury resorts actually remove seagrass because they affected the aesthetics of the postcard ready white sandy beaches.

Yep big resorts also stop locals from fishing in their native fishing grounds just so some spoilt wench can wake up to a false reality of untouched tranquillity, they literally endanger locals livelihoods and lives by pushing them further out to get fish for trade and dinner.

Why is no one addressing why seagrass appears in places where it never existed before? Wherever construction begins-whether on a local island or a resort-it often starts growing in the lagoons within a few years (though not everywhere). The bigger issue tends to be local islands. And why? The answer lies in poorly treated or untreated wastewater, where excessive nitrogen and phosphorus promote the growth of seagrass and algae. I don’t think seagrass that has appeared as a result of human impact is a good thing.

At Libaong Beach, Bohol in the Philippines, a huge fun pool and a 5-star luxury hotel are currently being built in front of a seagrass meadow. The expansion of renewable energy for these hotels is nowhere planned...

The Climate has been changing for billions of years and will continue to do so for billions more, well after humans destroy themselves, helping ecosystems and stopping greed makes more sense than the narrative of "climate change" b.s.
A big shout out to all those helping the ecosystems the flora and fauna, y'all should be proud of yourselves.

it is not bs when we read the measurements objectively and when we stop oistriching like it's a competition. even if you live 24 hours in climatized cars and climatized homes, there's no way that you didn't notice the considerable differences between these days seasons and 20 years ago seasons. it is a bit like bacteria doing beer or wine changing the environment that they live in. not so hard to grasp.

Most problem will be solved if Maldives stopped the luxury tourism it promotes attracting rich people who mostly come for their honeymoon because it causes most damage to corals and marine biodiversity. But then it's economy will be affected.
Moreover such acts aren't going to cause big difference.

More damage is actually caused by dredging and land reclamation, Ive worked with people in this sector for years, sea grass is actually considered the third most damaging action taken on a large scale, please don't comment on things you don't know about, and refrain from making scathing comments when this is another country and look closer to home for issues you can resolve
