      @TenuredBacon117 "It isn't even that expensive . . " will always be a relative term to the people making decisions for their own trip. For me, the cheapest off-season room is a pretty good hit, that alone are park tickets for one more day, but no place to sleep. And I also wouldn't expect to do anything in my room except be home base, and somewhere to sleep.

    Totally disagree about the grand floridian. It has the location, several dining options at all price points, immaculate grounds, shopping, its own orchestra, character experiences, a spa, piano player, convention centre, its on the lake, has the monorail, has boat access and the yacht Grand 1 at its door, fireworks views and a giant gingerbread house at christmas, one of the only spas on property, pools, a tennis court and the wedding pavillion. What else are people looking for in a hotel??? If you are complaining about walking outside for 2 minutes then Disney is probably not the place for you!

    I have worked at both Movies and Saratoga and I just wanted to correct a few things :). Movies is acutally the last of the all stars to get the groups, they go to Sports and then Music and lastly Movies. Movies is also the first to get the renovation so while Sports will have to wait another 2 years Movies is almost all the way renovated. As for Saratoga, Saratoga is not a deluxe resort it is a DVC property only and is therefore classified as a moderate (along with Old Key West) they are both set up with the doors opening to an outside hallway because it makes guests feel like they are in their own apartment instead of a hotel. They have a better sense of ownership when it is set up like that considering the DVC locations are internally set up like apartments with full kitchens and multiple bathrooms depending on the size.

      I am a DVC member and I don't mind Saratoga Springs...Though its not my first choice.... I do like the apartment feel but I can get that at my home resort Kidani Village at Animal Kingdom. without the outside hallway. As far as Maya Grill at Coronado ... My girlfriends and I ate there one race weekend and we loved it... everything was delicious and the serenading by the guitar player was so nice. Experiences make your choices worth it. If you look for fault bc you consider yourself a critic then you won't have fun.

    I definitely have to disagree with you on The Grand Floridian, it is my absolute favorite, having to walk outside to get to the main building is a weak reason to dislike it when practically all Disney resorts are that way. True the Contemporary is not, but in my opinion the decor and extra features there are not as luxurious as The Grand Floridian. We stayed at Port Orleans Riverside the last time after hearing so many people rave about it, but it is actually my least favorite now. I did not like how far out Riverside is and the multiple bus stops, more than once we were left standing and waiting for a bus for almost an hour because the bus filled up at the first stop. I also don’t like have spread out it is, and I don’t know if it was because of the new rule to allow dogs, or if something else, but so many of the walking paths smelled like dog poop. We stayed in the Royal Guest Rooms, which were ok, but not worth the hassle of the rest of the resort.

    I think adding the Polynesian and Grand Floridian because there isn’t a covered walkway for the 5 seconds you’re outside is a little first world problem-y. We stayed at Poly and LOVED it.
    And most of the resorts aren’t all one building, regardless of tier. We stayed at Riverside once and I was much more put out about that walk than I was about walking three seconds to my longhouse at the Polynesian.

      @vzhgdo 6 років тому +11

      I found that excuse very shameful..., I mean, it is like asking for the theme parks to be under a roof too, because you know, you spend a lot of money to get in there, the weather is even rougher because there's a lack of trees and there's so many people..., so the experience needs to be perfect as well.

    I loved Coronado Springs because of the pool (the best in Disney), the climbable rocks, and the theme-ing, but the food is sub-par. If you are renting a car this is the place to be as it is incredibly easy to move around (unlike other resorts). They have mini-fridges in the rooms so it is a good idea to save your money on breakfast and eat cereal in. The gift shop here is pretty unique as well

    We just stayed in a deluxe room at the Grand Floridian for a week and it was incredible. Our room was beautiful, the quick service dining was great, housekeeping was great and the quick boat ride to and from Magic Kingdom was incredible! Have you even stayed at the Grand Floridian in recent years? And the Polynesian is all outside and similar in price. Also we never felt out of place or we didn’t belong. And my daughter loved the Mad Hatter water playground!

    • @blackfox1320
      @blackfox1320 6 років тому +8

      I agree with DFB on this. By outside she meant fully exposed, Polynesian you have an awning overtop, albeit you are outside. Some spots at Contemporary you are completely exposed however. But a Deluxe room runs about 1,000$. If you have the funds it's great, but it doesn't justify the extra 500$ a night for most people. Even the cheapest room at 600$ a night is hard for most people to swallow.

      blackfox1320 I agree with you. We’ve stayed at the Grand Floridian twice, and while we enjoyed our stay, we personally thought it was just too pricy for what we got. Not that it wasn’t nice, but we’ve found places in Disney that we liked just as much or better that were cheaper and more convenient for us. Paige Stout I'm not sure if this has been discussed, or if this is even a "thing", I may be wrong. I heard that if you stay at a WDW resort, you have to already have a ticket for the pak the resort is located in to even get to your hotel. Although, I can't find any information on this to check if it is even true.
      I want to go to WDW sometime in 2020, but I live in Europe so it will already be an expensive trip, therefore it is important for me to know what the deal is with staying on site. I want to stay at a value resort (for ex All-Star Movies/Music) but those resorts are near Animal Kingdom- I DO NOT want to go to AK, so my question is- can I still stay at those resorts without having to buy a ticket for a park I don't even want to visit?
      Sorry for my long comment. Any help from anyone would be appreciated! (:

      The grand as one of the worst? I mean cmon dfb. Let’s be freakin real here. Let’s rate them on SERVICE SERVICE SERVICE. And why does it have to be in one big building? Uh? The grounds partly make the grand what it is. And literally every moderate is spaced out. Also spaced out? Walking? Travel? How about art of animation which is basically in Cuba.

    You are way too hard on the whole ‘outdoor walkway’ issue. So many of the resorts are in multiple buildings with outdoor covered (and uncovered) walkways that you might as well add Pop Century, the other two all stars and the Port Orleans resorts to your list - for starters. These are *huge* resorts - walking the length of a football field to get to dining sucks whether you have to be indoors or outdoors to do it. Personally, I have no problem with the Polynesian and GF outdoor walkways because they’re there to be consistent with the theming of two very beautiful hotels.

      Laura Smith Good points. I’ve always hated getting caught in the rain out there, and felt that staying in a building where you’re close to the lobby is more luxurious I guess. But do many of the resorts at Disney have those walkways.

    I love having to walk outside to get to the rooms/dining (never stayed at the grand Floridian but places like port Orleans and Coronado springs have that too) I think it’s so nice to walk in the heat and see the pool, other scenery around the hotel like fountains/gardens and then get to your nice air conditioned room. It’s the best. Even walking in the rain I don’t mind. I stayed at the contemporary last trip and honestly missed that.

I liked it was in walking distance to MK with a monorail. What I didn’t like was the hallways with the elevators smelled pretty weird and the bathrooms were nearly non functional. Saratoga Springs may feel like an apartment complex but that’s because this is basically a DVC resort. The rooms aren’t like regular hotel rooms where you just have a studio. They tend to be one or two bedroom suites with a kitchen/living room area so it is basically like having an apartment. And in my opinion, you’re going to walk in the parks and at Downtown so why is it so hard to walk a little ways to go to eat? I’ve never had a problem at Saratoga and it’s so beautiful in my opinion. I love how it’s decorated with the Disney horses, it has such a beautiful and welcoming feeling. And one of the big DVC mottos is “welcome home”
    I think Saratoga brings that. :)

      I was at Saratoga at the start of December , It is a very nice resort , but my problem is you could put it at any vacation spot in Florida and it wouldn't look out of place, it just doesn't have that Disney feel to it . But that is just my opinion as a life long Disney Die Hard .

    • @22hornplayer
      @22hornplayer 6 років тому +3

      Brian Shannon I can see your point! But the rooms do have little details that are Disney. At least the last time I was there, on the bed spread there was Todd and Copper from the Fox and the Hound and there were various Disney horses like Philippe and Bullseye. It’s not as extensive as somewhere like Art of Animation but Saratoga is a deluxe hotel!
      But maybe I see those things because I stay there a lot? Trust me, life long fan here too 😂

    I love Saratoga Springs for the reason most people do not -- it is a sprawling resort with beautiful lakes and pathways and does not feel like a 'hotel.' It makes me feel like I am staying in a Disney-lovers community. I adore the landscaping and the waterways, and enjoy the strolls to and from the lobby. The proximity to Disney Springs is a plus for me, too. I believe that context is important for why each of us enjoys different Disney resorts. As an urban dweller in a neighborhood of apartments with a small kitchen and no laundry nearby, I find the beautiful grounds and the in-room washer & dryer (one bedroom and above) a luxury. Disney has a wide array of hotels that appeal to every taste and I have stayed in almost every one and see why each one would appeal to different individuals and families.
    Hey, AJ, perhaps you should do a "Best WDW Resorts" video for families (Art of Animation, Caribbean Beach, Pop Century, Polynesian), adults (Beach Club, Boardwalk), holidays (Wilderness Lodge, Grand Floridian), relaxing vacationers (Old Key West, Treehouse Villas) and show how each WDW resort would appeal to different tastes.
    Just my two cents! Keep up the great work, DFB!!!

    Didn't expect to see Grand Floridian on this list -- especially since it's far and away the best resort experience I've had at Disney World. I understand walking outside when it's hot is a potential negative, but I think the only resort that doesn't involve walking outside to get to some of the amenities is the Contemporary. In fact I really enjoy walking around the Floridian and enjoying the architecture, colors, landscaping, and views. Plus you get a short boat ride to Magic Kingdom or an air conditioned monorail ride to the front gate. Oh, and the giant 24hr hot tub... Otherwise, though, I agree. Especially about Coronado Springs -- I really like the resort, and the Mayan-themed water area is great for families. But the food is just "eh" and the conference traffic can be noticeable depending on the time of year.

      Its been several years but I loved it as well. From the room, to the pool, and restaurant. I from Louisiana and we are all about spicy and good eating. We like a variety and had the dining plan so we ate various places. I have stayed All Star Sports and the food was very much kid friendly, but again we had a dining plan and ate else where. The rooms were ok, large pool- but we didn't spend much time there- mostly just to sleep. The value was good for what it was.......

    Not a big fan of SSR either, but the trick is to simply jump on a bus (every few minutes) when you want to go around the resort, and you are there in minutes. If you want to take your time, then walk! This is the way it works at many of the more spread out DVC Resorts.

    • @Mort88

      Pop century is the largest Disney resort, with almost 3000 rooms, while the resort is ok, all of the issues that were brought up about All Start Movies is 10x worse at Pop century, tie that in with the amount of buses they run at peak hours, and having to typically stand in line 30+ minutes after a long day in the park just to get a ride back, moves it lower on my list. I have stayed there a number of times, each time has pushed it further down my list of go to resorts.

    Went to Caribbean Beach a few years ago and it was the worst!!!! Had never experienced a Disney hotel like that. Handicapped access was horrendous, the room was infested with earthworms (even the beds), phone was ripped out of the wall and did not work when plugged back in, there was used soap with hair in it and dirty towels, and blood on the mirror. I felt like we were at the Bates Motel not Disney! Had to flee to Port Orleans because it was so bad and by the time they got it taken care of it was the middle of the night. My child's birthday was just ruined by all this! Plus, I agree with AJ that walking a mile to get to everything is no fun when you are paying the kind of money they charge at these hotels. It is hard on kids, the elderly and the disabled who are worn out from the park to then have to continue hoofing it endlessly to reach their room or dining or whatever, and Florida weather is unpredictable at best so they really should have a layout that accommodates this better at their hotels.

    Let me get this straight: you think stepping outside or having to walk somewhere is a hindrance? That sounds like such a first-world problem. I can’t agree with covered walkways, either. I’ve stayed at both Polynesian and GF and part of their beauty is how they embrace the outdoor flora and fauna. GF’s center courtyard has beautiful views of the sky. I would hate for a covered walkway to block that. Buy an umbrella, put on your tennis shoes, and walk it out. Walks are good for the soul.

    • @lilmoonbaby6
      @lilmoonbaby6 6 років тому +1

      I am fine with outdoor walking at Polynesian because I'm walking to a tiki bar or fire pit. I don't agree with outdoor walking for GF because their theme is elegance and I don't feel that arriving to an expensive dinner covered in sweat.

      All due respect, who goes to Florida and doesn't expect Alligators in the waters? Disney cannot control nature, be it the weather, the fauna etc. They try but Disney is not perfect. That family should have been keeping a closer eye on that poor kid, kids aren't aware of risks but adults certainly should.

    • @KissesFromCanada
      @KissesFromCanada 4 роки тому

      Portrait of a Dark Side there isn’t much respect in this comment. Disney micro-manages every single detail of their experience, and those - picture perfect white sandy beaches were no accident-I am sure they truck in sand regularly to manufacture that look. Lane was only three or four years old, splashing his feet at ‘the beach’. The family was visiting from middle America. Clearly the addition of the new fencing, rock edging, and very clear signage is an admission from Disney that they were not doing everything possible to prevent this accident -they could have done more. I agree nature can’t be controlled, but it’s not as if this family was wading through the Everglades. Yes, it was a freak accident, but the reason people pay top dollar to visit the most ‘magical place on earth’ is to take a break from reality’s stressors and trust that Disney’s ‘got this’ and that everything is taken care of. No one, anywhere, was expecting this, and every mention of this resort, even now, still fills me with anxiety and horror. One child killed at Disney World is forever one child too many.

    • @phenomcosmic450
      @phenomcosmic450 4 роки тому +1

      @@KissesFromCanada Everywhere in Florida, everywhere no exceptions there is a high chance of alligators, snakes etc. being present. Nature is cruel and unforgiving and shall be ever cruel and unforgiving wherever she goes.....it spares neither king or pauper, saint or heathen. I never ever put my guard down, not even at Disney. I never let my cousins near the water, never trust waters whose depths I cannot see (Which disney makes harder because they purposefully tint the water to hide whatever machinery they got underneath). Yes Disney majorly messed up.....beyond repair.....every night I walked the halls of the Grand I walked down to the beach there and I cry every time I see that little lighthouse.....and I hope that the little soul lost there has found a happier place in this cruel world than that lonely money saturated beach.

    My family stayed at Caribbean Beach during the construction, and we enjoyed the tent dining. The food was very good (at least the breakfast and lunch we had) and the tent was very spacious and clean, the set up was nicely done, and if other resorts have to do the same, they should do similarly. Best of all, one of the cast members was so friendly, warm and hospitable. She came out to greet and talk to guests, she even sang for everyone, my parents were celebrating their 56th anniversary and she made a special announcement and sang a special song for them. Each time we went in, she was so sweet. I also really loved the cupcakes at this resort, they were delicious! Thanks for all the information you gave to look out for at the different resorts!

    All I can comment on is the only resorts I stayed at (All Star Movies, All Star Music, and Fort Wilderness campground). Call me cheap but because my family and I are always at the parks from the moment they open until they close (only using the hotel to shower and sleep) we can't justify spending the extra money for something we are not going to stay around to use/enjoy. I fully agree, the All-Star Movies is outdated and in need of something new. We enjoyed the All-Star Music so much more then All-Star Music because it was bigger and had more pools. We own an RV so we used it at Fort Wilderness. We liked Fort Wilderness Campground (clean, lots of stuff to do, etc.) but since it is not hotel, we had to clean up after ourselves and it took the magic out of the vacation (was more like a camping trip).
