I literally have nothing to with Baseball, or Seattle what so ever, I'm even from Europe.. And every time I listen to this song I get the chills man.. it feels like you fall right into his childhood with these kind of amazing moments in his life just by listening to this song, amazing.
So true man, so true
Same here! So many chills - everytime!
Doesn't matter where you're from or what sport you like, anyone of us have that one person that we can connect this song to. (european too btw)
I throw one arm up in the air every time the replay Dave's call when they are going to wave him in (Junior). I was 10 watching that game
Where ya from
anyone who grew up hearing Dave niehaus voice knows exactly what he's talking about, we all lived it... good times
Best play by play voice ever
I can't imagine Dave Neihaus right now..
Shame that Macklemore hit it big on Thrift Shop rather than the songs that he was the most passionate about. Don't get me wrong, I love Macklemore, I just wish he got recognition for the songs he cared about like this one.
I agree.
Its because he's unique. You need to be part of the bullshit mainstream to get anywhere these days. As you say he's so passionate about his songs. I personally think he's one of the best.
Totally agree, but again he's from the north west. His views were already different to the rest of the country at the time. He kept marching on to the beat of his own drum though. so lets hope for the best.
Same Love got pretty big as well tho
Shag Swag To be honest I don't really care if he writes them or not. What matters is he's making songs where he expresses himself, songs that matter more to him. I like but can't appreciate his songs like Thrift Shop but I love his songs like Otherside, Hold Your Head Up, Jimmy Iovine, Neon Cathedral...the songs which actually have a message that means something to him, not just something that sounds nice and you can party to.
This song makes me proud to be from Seattle. But I'm not 😅. I'm not even American. Deep feels bro.
I'm from Seattle
+SEATTlemariners I'm from Detroit
+first same
+whit_lil_boi yea boi
Im from melbourne
Work it out
I hope you all know he didn't expect this song to appeal to the whole country. He wanted to aim this song at Seattleites, since we're the only people who can really relate to it. It's like a shoutout to his hometown.
practically half of Eminem's song are about Detroit (exaggeration). I live in Detroit and a song of his comes on at least once an hour on every channel.
Stfu
I live in Nigeria and we have absolutely no idea what baseball is all about. And yet somehow this song made me feel what he felt.
That's the power of music.
I live on the opposite coast and I enjoy this song.
This song gives me chills every time. I can put myself back there in front of the TV when this happened, I was 8 years old and I loved baseball. I was barely started, but this is my first big memory as an M's fan, and every year that goes by since then feels like it may be the best moment as an M's fan ever.
who else loves the mariners and the seahawks and lives in seattle
ItzLola I live in Vancouver, WA but me loves the Mariners and Seahawks so much
I just miss the Sonics

And compete against the fear that is in me that's my only barrier and I swear I'm gonna break that 🔥🔥💯
17 years later, Mariners may be in the playoffs
God damn I love my city.
I'll never forget about playing baseball in my whole life
I'm not even a mariners fan and I get chills...damn
My oooooooh My...
this is what I use for my baseball practice to hype me up
My oh my
I am a Mariners fan but can we get past a losing 1995 season?
Oh! My My? OneRepublic?
This video makes me happy for some reason
Here after mariners came back from an 8-1 deficit
My name is actually Griffey. I was named after, of course, the baseball player. When my mom was pregnant with me, my dad bet that if Junior got a homerun, they'd name me Griffey, since he was my dads favorite player. My mom accepted, and hey what do ya know he got a home run. I'm only 15 now, and my mom sadly passed away a few years ago in '10 so this song which is sort of a goodbye for Niehaus, I like to consider a goodbye to my mom
grrifftwo darescue Sick story man, good luck in life! :)
grrifftwo darescue Sorry for your loss man, Im sure your mom would be proud of you. When you tell your story don't let the home run seem like a coincidence, everything happens for a reason and that home run belongs to you. And just know that your mom watches in awe as greatness shines through you, she wouldn't believe what she created. Hope you see this. Good luck out there.
grrifftwo darescue I love the story man. i also feel the same way buddy
Damn........
WHAT
macklemore makes me so fucking happy for no reason at all
Melissa Lozano me 2 :)
You're f****** right because he makes me happy for no reason to

Macklemore is a leader, dictator of music who leads the way for us through real life songs like this and same love, no cursing just proper rap, for ever my hero- Macklemore :)
yh but note extreme
note? not*
***** yh he is just amazing, he is a really good speaker especially knowing his opinion, unlike some other artists who just waffle on.
yh agreed.
great lyricist but I dont mind if he curses. i mean, this IS hip hop lol.
It’s September 28th, 2021

Mariners, can this be our official victory song when we win the World Series some day? The other theme song is not reli a song we can sing to... (Look at those Cubbies)
GOOD IDEA
I garuntee you if the Mariners go to the world series, Mack himself will sing this song there lol
@@originalevo634 yup! Right on!

That call by Dave still brings a tear to my eye. I was at games 3 and 4, both friggin incredible games, but my favorite memory was flying down my stairs and bolting through my front door flailing and screaming when Edgar hit that double and suddenly having a moment when I could hear people in the distance all around me doing the same thing. I'll never forget that! Amazing how a fleeting moment of pure joy can bring up such emotions after all these years. I only wish Dave could be here for this moment as well. Damn I miss that man...Thank you Dave. GO M's
I love how he express his feelings and ideas through the music. He's not singing something that he doesn't mean, he means what he sing.
AvrilKaGrotterSha yeah true its hard to get rapers to actually say something nowadays rigth ?
true that
paul escobar Yeah rapers don't usually say nice things.
AvrilKaGrotterSha He's a great musician! He definitely inspires me in and many many more. The weddings of the 30 or more gay couples at the Grammy's was phenomenal.
ValorJH lmao im happy someone else noticed it xD
I'm a Nats fan, never been to Seattle, but I love this song and I've always felt an affinity to the Mariners because for so long we were the only two teams without a pennant. Hope this year is your year.
Don’t worry boys, Julio Rodriguez is leading us to the playoffs 😤
Just think if Macklemore and Eminem did a song together
We get the goofy but meaningful lyrical leader
and the arguably best rapper of all time that happens to be white
arent they making one? or something like that
Not a clue hope so
I got goosebumps listening to this
me to
I don't like baseball, but this song and video are pretty. If Macklemore and Ryan Lewis had a song and video about (soccer) football, I think I would cry watching it.
Same I love soccer
Soccer4life
Someone singin about soccer isn't nearly romantic as baseball
K Ko you have your opinion and we have ours
+K Ko yeah we do in fact everyone has there own opinion but to baseball is important cause I have my own reasons so yeah .
macklmore has such a calming effect... he has the beats and words that you can relate to in a way.
well i mean if you're a suburban white kid you can lmao
+jp kinsella well yeah, there's a lot of us suburban white kids out here. It's nice to get to listen to him rap about something my dad and I did together too, listening to Mariners games on the radio. I mean I can't really identify with most rappers, especially the ones I grew up with like 2Pac, Biggie, Too Short, E-40, etc. I enjoy listening to them still, but I've never been a pimp, never had a "gat" so I can't really identify with them. But this song, and many others from him I can identify with.
Jason Garrett
I just like how he uses brass in his beats. Most rap doesn't use brass at all
Once in a while i come and listen Otherside next Wings and end it with My oh my...dunno why, but i think these 3 songs are their best songs!
Same exact 3 songs.
Add A Wake, Ten Thousand Hours and Neon Cathedral and you've got my go to six.
+MasochisticMaiden Add Same Love, Make the Money and Starting Over and you've got my go to nine.
Yeah and to make it even with 10 song's i'll listen to Darude - Sandstorm?!
+broghywert and now you can add Kevin to that list :)
2021. BELIEVE!!!
Glad I'm not the only one here now! BELIEVE .... SEALIEVE
God bless baseball so cool to see a hip hop song about it. It really is the best sport of all. There is no time limit. It challenges what a human can possibly do with a stick and his body, against what another human can possibly do tossing a ball. It was designed to break your heart, and yet time and time again their are insane victories by the underdog. There is no sport in the world like baseball, and it's so emotional. So in-precise. They measure everything in baseball by numbers and complicated math these days and still the unpredictable and impossible happens. A game of heroes, a game of villains. A game of redemption and regret. The national "pastime" and yet a game where time seems to stop during those wonderful moments you will remember forever. It's a game of contradictions and timeless truths. It's a beautiful game. Long live hip hop, and long live baseball.
the best sport is that ,played by the best sports men
ahepperl most boring sport to watch lol
ahepperl I am a baseball fanatic as well. Recently, I tore my Tommy John, or the UCL. I can't have surgery for it until I am 15-18, because my growth plates aren't fused. I miss baseball so much. Only 2-5 years to go
bdizz77 each pitch has meaning, each play has meaning, each swing has meaning. it is definitely a sport for smart people
ahepperl nah lol skateboarding is Where it's at
its true so true i belong to the last generation of kids who waited all day to go play outside kids nowadays dont want to leave their room,
Yeah it's true some kids do that. But me and my
Friends will go out in any weather rain or sun and kick a ball around
กก
I'm from Michigan and we get off of school at 3:00PM and after school we play baseball till 10 at night
Although some kids do id much rather go outside and play basketball and skateboard than go inside and play video games
lol ,just see the brigthside
Now we need a song about The 12'th Man Macklemore!
A song like that will be about Texas A&M
I seriously don't care if we stole the idea from Texas A&M. It helped us win the SUPERBOWL!!!!
*Super Bowl
chickenonanapkin you must be so fun to hang out with, always correcting people. must never get annoying.
Im sure he working on one.
Only Macklemore and Tupac can have that impact on me.
....
both legends
.... indeed
.....Eminem?
Jordy Mosqueda Yes, sometimes!
I really appreciate that Mack and Ryan make music about things they care about. Baseball, marriage equality, not buying into corporations, diversity, raising a child, etc.
I really appreciate that you mentioned Ryan because most people don't :(
Thomas Hell Yeah, Ryan is extremely talented as well. He's the producer and he directs a lot of their music videos which are really well done.
I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of Macklemore's music. Heck, I'm not a fan of rap at all. It's just not to my taste.
But I am a Mariners fan, and this song makes me cry nearly every time I hear it. Only a stand up guy like Macklemore could commemorate Dave Niehaus with such great lyrics.
RIP Dave, and thank you Macklemore for this fantastic song.
+Proto Man Well said.
+Proto Man if you don't like you don't like you
***** Eh. One of my issues with hip hop is that as a drummer, I feel replaced since every beat is pretty much made by a machine. That's why I personally don't like it, knowing that it is a personal issue. I don't think it's inferior by any means, since the quality of lyrics aren't influenced by the genre of music, and just because I may not like something doesn't make it bad. I like classic rock mostly but I don't expect everyone here to agree.
Proto Man it's not the genre. It's the words man
Mackelmore is one of the most Inspirational rapper out there that doesn't sing about sex, drugs and girls. He's spits the truth and facts about life and that's what most people love about him. He's not your ordinary rapper :).
Isn't he the best rapper ever? I mean i don't usually listen to rap music, but he really does have sth to say, great messages. Not violence, hate or sex. It's refreshing
No not trying to be mean he may be a light hearted rapper but he's definitely not the best nor does he send the best messages. But he's one of the best in the main stream today imo
Anyone here after the SB Nation vid?
Cameron R. Lmao yep shoutout Jon and Alex
Yep big up Jon and Alex

September 29th 2022. The Mariners' magic number is down to 1. I wish Dave Niehaus could be here to see the end of the drought and deliver the most meaningful "My Oh My!" in two decades. Miss listening to you Dave. I know you're watching this M's team from up there with a big smile right now.

Who's here after the Mariners clinched a playoff spot? GO MARINERS! I was a child when the Mariners last made the playoffs! (I wonder if UrinatingTree is going to say anything about this...?)
to understand this song you have to know and honestly cherish the game of baseball and know the feeling of being in love with a team and the sport
True!🙌👌
Very true words, but fuck the yankees
Ryan P You're the reasons why i want to like comments more than once.
I think it could be any sport, I myself am a soccer fan, but as a small boy I had the exact same feelings when my team won (Ajax Amsterdam)
Noah Oudejans it could be! However, he is talking about an exact moment in western Washington sports history. I distinctively remember that moment as a kid. we all felt like anything was possible, like we could actually make it this time. dave Niehause was THE voice of seattle baseball and an announcer like no other. he gave descriptions and interjections like poetry. During that time though between his coverage, and the amazing baseball, it felt like magic and everyone went in just to watch the game. we all felt united and the rush was amazing.
It's sad the Griffey couldn't stay healthy through the 2nd half of his career(2001-2010) if he wasn't so injury prone I guarantee you he would've been the first and only man to hit 800 hrs.
Your right man, what such a great he was...I teach this setting to my kids
90s kid know all about that
+Jared Pollack.
The "until god decides to wave us in" line really got me
Can make a case this is the best Baseball song ever.................
Every time I listen tear up a bit
Same with me.
CosmicWalrus who ever is human would tear up to this song
This just hits different today.
The M's are in and as a Canadian living in Vancouver, who's been all M's over Jays, this is gonna be good.
Lets go M's
The Mariners made me cry three times. The first was when Dave died. The second time was when I got to see Dave's statue in Safeco unveiled.
The third time is when I actually watch the Mariners play.
2021 wild card race brought me back here. Go M's!
Will the Mariners ever have their year?
Mariners are on the up! They actually had an ok season last year, and almost got the wildcard spot. Doesn't sound like much but I actually watched a hefty part of the season for the first time in a decade. I'm confident they're going nowhere but up!
The Mariners owners would have to change their attitude or sell the team. They sold Tino Martinez to the Yankees after winning the AL in 1995. They had a team full of young talent and all they needed was a closer to have a dynasty. But they refused to buy one, until it was too late. A. Rod saw the light & left for the money. The Big Unit followed. Ken Griffey Jr. got homesick and left too. Lou was the last one out. I quit the Ms way before then & was not surprised by what happened with Ichiro. Clearly, the Ms owners & management don't care about winning or the fans. See how Ichiro played against the Ms right after going, to of all teams, the Yankees. "My Oh My!" RIP Dave Niehaus.
Atenyi M.M When did you quit the M's? I was saying this because they've never won a World Series title or AL pennant. They didn't win it '95. The made it to the CS. But lost. Even when they won 116 game in 2001 without Jr., A-fraud, or Big Unit, they couldn't make it. Also, it didn't matter when Ichiro left because he was getting old and beginning to fad. Also, they had a good season last year and unfortunately came just one game short of the playoffs. They could make the playoffs this season. I just hope it results in a World Series appearance or win maybe.
The Ms won the ALDS in 1995 and lost to the Indians in ALCS. They had a good mix of young talented players and solid veterans. All they needed was a better closer because they lost too many games at the last minute. The owners didn't want or care to spend for a closer. By the time they got Sasaki, the exodus had already began. Good players want to win 1st and then get paid. A-Rod left because he realized the Ms were not serious about winning. He went for the money and later joined the Yankees to win things. With a good closer, the Ms would have had a dynasty. But as long as fans were filling Safeco & spending on the team, the owners didn't care about winning. Well, not this fan.
yes hopefully this year =) GO MARINERS!!
BELIEVE M'S FANS! THE RAYS ARE HERE TO HELP!!
BELIEVE!

Who’s here after the Mariners made it to the playoffs for the first time in 21 years
I remember back when this first came out, when very few people other than people in the northwest knew who Macklemore was. A lot has changed since then, and Macklemore has changed a lot, but in my opinion, this will always be his best work. Truly encapsulated how people feel about baseball in the northwest. Dave Niehaus was the greatest of all time. Rest in peace.
Rip
Agreed. Macklemore has made a lot of corny stuff both before and after going "mainstream", but this song is peak "real". You can feel it in his voice that this song was 100% real nostalgia and love for a voice of a generation.
Even though they didn't win the world series, I dare anyone to say that the 2001 Seattle Mariners weren't the greatest team in baseball. Tied for most wins in a season(116-48) most players in starting lineup for all star game (8). The longest team in Seattle history without a ring. Now's the time Mariners, get it done in 2023
MAGIC NUMBER: 0. LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. TASTE THAT RAIN.
