- It's been a little over a year since I've posted a video, and this isn't a typical one either. We don't crochet at all! But I do show you my process for painting a lemon wallpaper-esque mural on a wall! Hopefully as I make my crochet space more beautiful it'll bring back the 'crojo' and I'll be ready to make again soon!

YES!!!! I have been feeling so guilty because I haven't been crocheting very much. I've invested a lot of my time into sewing over the past year. I've actually just recently picked my hook back up. It has felt really good to try other things and not feel that pressure of HAVING to get a project done. I'd love to see other creative ideas with you!! Absolutely!

Hi Valerie, welcome back! First - your wall is VERY BEAUTIFUL!!! I love it. For sure it will be a pleasure to work in such "joyous" surroundings. Please take us along on your creative path - even if it's not something that we personally would like to do - it's always uplifting to see other creative work. When I had small children (I am a Great Grandma now), I used to say, two children are not double the work of one, but more like 10x the amount of work as so many unexpected things always happen, so I completely get it that you were busy. Looking forward to seeing more of you.

Hey Valerie. So I totally get you. I got burnt out from overkill crochet to the point where I wasn’t experiencing the “JOY” of creating. So I put my crochet hooks away and started embroidery. But I didn’t really get my mojo from that. So I tried painting. Yeah, not my thing either. I made wreaths for a while but that got tired after a while. Then I started sewing. And I’ve got to tell you, I absolutely LOVE IT!!! I make bags, pouches, coin purses, backpacks, dolls…you get it. There’s an unlimited variety of things to sew. Then I tried blankets. And now I’m attempting to quilt. After about 2 years, I picked up my crochet hooks and made a few random things as gifts. No pressure for orders or time limits. Just me, my yarn, a pattern, and my hooks. And the joy of crocheting came back. Since I have mild arthritis I can only crochet for about an hour at a time so it takes me a lot longer to get stuff done. But I get you. I am a creator and crafter. And you’re right, I think I would die if I couldn’t create and craft; it’s a part of me, a part of who I am. I’m so happy you found joy in painting that wall, which looks amazing by the way. I encourage you to continue doing what makes you happy. Some people may not like to venture out into other crafting genres so to speak, but I am so happy for you and understand you completely. By the way, I’ve made your fox lovey and your elephant lovey for my nephew and niece. And they came out absolutely adorable. Thank you for sharing your creativity with all of us. I hope you find joy in whatever you do.

Hi Val, welcome back! I can’t imagine how busy you must have been with the birth of your son. And burnout on top of that? You definitely deserve a break. I’m glad you’ve been able to just take a step back and enjoy parenting and being with your children for the last year.
But of course you have still been creating! It’s wonderful seeing glimpses of what you’ve been up to. I think we all feel that way when we spend too much time on one hobby, no matter how much we love it. I’ve been putting my crochet hook down a few times as well to work on other things that my creative energy has been guiding me to, but recently I got a burst of inspiration for different specific projects for crochet. I just can’t wait to get started on all of them. I need more hands!
Your lemon wall looks beautiful. I would love to see other things that you were/are working on. Even though yes, I initially subscribed to you because of your crochet content, I understand that you as a person will have other interests and talents. I think it’s perfectly fine to be able to share that on your platform because that’s part of who you are too. (As you said, it’s your UA-cam channel, do what you want!) It might just spark inspiration to see what you’re doing, and we can all inspire each other, even if we’re doing different crafts.
I recently reorganized my desk because it was just so full of stuff that I just didn’t feel good when I sat down to work on something. I think disorganization sucks the life out of creativity for sure! Once I cleaned up everything, I felt so much better about doing projects there. Looking forward to more videos from you! Take care!

@@oldsoulcrochetco.7887 Yes, we will be able to crochet all the things, one project at a time! 😄 I would be very happy to send you an email to show you what I've been up to these past months. I completed the graphgan I've been working on for years that I'm super proud of, and I have 2 other graph-related ones that will be upcoming (I'm turning them into book covers and using filet crochet). I'm using pictures, laying them out how I want them, and eventually turning them into graphs with some program I will find. However, I have more pressing projects to work on, one hopefully will be completed in time for Christmas. I'll tell you all about it in an email soon! Happy creating!

I can’t believe it… I just thought of you but I couldn’t remember your name! I’m into crocheting toys and was trying to think of where I could get some patterns! Gosh I miss you! Congrats on your baby boy! As a mother of four I know how much work children can be! Neither of mine were good nappers or sleepers for a good while, my girl was much better!! Anyway, I’m with ya in needing to branch out of crochet and knitting (for me as well). They still have their place but there are other fun ways to be creative, so take us along! You might inspire us to try new things! 💕

From one old soul crocheter to another...
I highly encourage you to have another form or other FORMS of creative outlets. I'm not sure you should take the encouragement of an A.D.D. girl but there it is. I have heard so many people talk negatively about a.d.d however, in my experience I feel like i have a SUPER POWER. lol
I feel like people don't recognize that crocheting is an art but for me it's also anxiety relief& therapy. I feel like regardless of which art form you've honed in on. We have an artist spirit. I think you should always go where your soul is taking you. Hopefully it will only rejuvenate your love of crochet & feed your creative soul. I too love interior design and what better way to combine your background in interior design with crochet, then to REDESIGN your work space. I not only think it was a good idea- I think it may have been a necessity. You have 2 children & so many other responsible that it would be easy to fall into a design slump. I encourage you to push even further by making sure the ENTIRE work room is not only beautiful BUT more importantly focus on practical situations that are also beautiful & pleasing to your soul. So organizing all your supplies & materials. I encourage you to watch a few other professional crochet/knitters websites about how they approached their work spaces. One lady I love is Elise from Le Petit Saint Crochet. She has at least one or two episodes about organizing & designing her work room. I can't wait to see what you decide on the blog& what else you do to your work space.

Wow you did a great job on the wall. Isn't it great what you can do with making things from dollar tree items. Look at it this way. If they paint or write on the walls is easy to cover up by painting the wall. It's easier to fix than holes in the walls.

Oh my goodness, your wall came out so good. At first, I thought the sponge idea wouldn’t be so good, but did you prove that thought wrong. Once you added the stems, leaves and blossoms, it really looked good and highlighting and shading the lemons gave them dimension. The sign added a nice finishing touch. Yep, do more. I love watching anything creative even if I don’t have that particular talent, I can sure appreciate those who do. But of course, more crochet would be good too. Nice seeing you again.🥰

I am just so happy to see and hear from you. I love hearing about any creative journey you are on. Funny thing is, I have a house full of creatives, and we have to dabble in all sorts of things to keep finding our joy and Making and creating. I jump from sewing, to embroidery, to crochet, to vinyl projects. I even got a knitting machine to dabble in that as well. I understand burnout for sure so I am glad you are finding your joy wherever you can. And I'll tell you a secret I let my daughter paint on her walls🤫. I know that's awful, but it's just paint and I absolutely love the creativity and inspiration that happens for her when she is doing it.🥰 Your wall is beautiful 😍I hope it inspires lots more creative juices😊. I love that you let your kids paint on the walls! It is so fun, and so good! I'm curious to see if my kids will also be compulsive creators like me! You make it sound so wonderful!
By the way, abit kids painting on walls, I know people who have designated a wall section in the nursery specifically for that. You can cover it with big sheets of paper and keep replacing it when they are done or want to start a fresh one. If that gets their creative juices flowing, why not go with the flow?!
