CHiPs is one of the primary reasons I became a CHP Officer in 1982. Got to meet the cast and crew on several occasions and assisted with the CHiPs 99 reunion. Robert Pine, AKA Sgt. Getraer, was my favorite character. Spent the majority of my 30 year career as a sergeant. Still run into Erik Estrada at CHP events. A big thank you to Rick Rosner for bringing the series to life.
You're living the dream I had as a kid. I wanted to be CHP. I Became a great teacher and don't regret it but glad to see someone else living the dream too

Was a kid in my early teens watching CHiPs and I later became a state CID agent but was in patrol initially. This show means the world to me. Now in my retirement life I work part time with a group of retired LEOs and we keep CHiPs on during the daytime. Talk about full circle. Thanks for this content
I was ten years old when CHiPs premiered in 1977 and loved every episode thereafter. I vividly remember talking about the show every day after each episode aired with my classmates in elementary school. Was a great time with great memories. I deeply miss the 1970's
I was 15 when this show aired. I became a Deputy Sheriff in 1981 and I was fortunate enough to do my last six years on the seat of a Harley Police Motor. Yes, I wore the blonde gloves that Wilcox wore. Only chased one car on the Motor, it's not like in the movies or on tv as it scared the crap out of me. I just bought a 2013 retired BMW from Hollywood Motors, it is a former LA County Sheriff's Office Motor. I am older and now I just want to relax and enjoy riding again. This was a great show for its time, love to see it come back with the same integrity that it had back then. We need it now more than ever in this world. Yes, Brianne Leary is still as pretty as she was on the show.
“It scared the crap out of me” lolol that is a great story. Im hoping to find one of those old Kz1000’s and cruise down the CA freeways remembering CHiP’s.
So I have been binging on old CHIPS episodes lately. I am 51 years old and used to watch all the time when I was a kid. Hec yes, I have been riding motorcycles for 35 + years. I have always wanted a Kawasaki police motor. I have owned all brands but mostly 1980's Kawasaki KZ series (KZ750 ect) motorcycles through the years. I currently ride a 2021 Kawasaki Z900 RS Cafe that I purchased new with 0 miles!! BTW Thank you for your service!! BTW I was 7 yrs old in 1977 when the show aired.
Robert Pine once drove by with his dad in my hometown. Me and a friend were sitting on a stone wall when he made a U-turn. We noticed him as he started to head the opposite direction and I just blurted out, "Hey Sarge!" and we got a wave back. His dad lived in Pawling, N.Y. at the time in the70's & 80's.
3:04 I noticed this after recently watching the series from first episode. We have truly lost our way. Look at California in CHiPs and compare to today. Also....what smog? I don't see any in the show?
Loved this show. I saw Erik Estrada at a conference in Monterey, Ca. A week ago. He's a very cool person and shared some of his life story with the crowd. I enjoyed it tremendously. Sadly I wasn't able to connect with him before he left. I wanted a picture with him! Many thanks to the Cast and Crew of CHiPs for the great childhood memories. Growing up and watching this show was one of the reasons I became a cop 20 years ago.
Sue, thank you for organizing this event and sharing it with us old fans. CHiPs was a classy show with a classy cast, most of whom were in attendance here and a pleasure to see again after all these years. Regret not getting to see Erick too but I certainly don't hold it against him for declining to attend. We're fortunate, given how long ago the series aired, that the entire cast is still alive and well. This was one of my all time favorite series and I was 29 when it first aired. As a professional truck driver for 46 years (minus a 4 year enlistment in the Marines which included 2 trips to Vietnam) I well related to the realism of the show and it's positive image of a Vietnam veteran, which was not at all common at the time. They just don't make 'em like that anymore.
I always thought it was interesting that for a show airing in the late 1970s, the bit about Jon's service in Vietnam (as reflecting Larry Wilcox's real-life service) was always played down. The wounds wouldn't heal until The Gulf War and I thought it was great that the Army allowed VN War veterans to march in the homecoming parade! To you, MAL, I say: "welcome home"!
Cool. I was 7 when it premiered in 1977 and me and my twin sister got our first ten speed bicycles for Christmas, and ofcorse we pretended to be Chips. LOL Great Memories. I loved it when Laura Branigan was on the show.
I'm still a very huge Chips Fan to this day!! The cast is great & the show was very successful. I watched this show everyday when it aired! Yes,my first crush was Mr.Estrada! He,s still a great actor of his time!
What a shame, that Erik Estrada couldn't participate in the reunion. He was just an amazing actor and a police officer as well. He and the rest of the cast are so beloved. A class of its own here. I also was a young teenage guy in the 70s and grew up watching these great programs or series. In fact Emergency for got me inspired to do EMS..EMT work however I didn't get to to that work in sunny southern California, I did my work in Boston MA. and then when I returned to Albuquerque N.M. I did volunteer fire fighting completing a couple of state Academy courses...but I was always impressed with CHiPs and as I said the show was in a class of its own...kudos to Officers Baker and Ponch for their screen work...Thanks for the flash back.
Thanks for this! Great interviews and stories, as many mentioned below it takes us back to childhood. I'm an 80's baby but caught the early first re- runs fresh off the press. CHips was IT! I remember finding red lights and old CB mic, tapping then to my bike to be like chips. They are right. Back them the CHP was "cool". Growing up in northern Cali he freeways look the same as in SoCal and of course the cho had the same bikes, etc so it was like it was happening right outside. And man those crazy police chases and stunts would have you in awe in front of the TV on Saturdays.
I was born in 80 have watched chips my whole life. Even today in 2023 I wake up and watch reruns every single day. I wish the world was like it was in that era people most definitely treated other different.
I've always been a fanatic of Emergency! But I remember the episode of CHiPs where Ponch and Baker helped two pretty ladies in an MGB. Right at the end of the scene, the camera cut to the side of the road. There sat Squad 51 from Emergency!, helping another motorist. I thought that was a good touch, an homage to remind us of Gage and DeSoto.
This is sweet... I got into CHiPs during it's final season and still to this day the episode I saw. I miss the show and loved seeing this. This was great for me as a fan of the show. I got caught up on the seasons through reruns, this show is a favorite of mine from my childhood and something I always loved! Thank you!
I'm not usually into reboots but I would love another four episodes of ChiPs just to have Chris Pine join as a new partner in the team of his father's on-screen character!😄
Wow. Just found this and seen it's a 10 year old upload and I'm thrilled at how good quality picture it is! Not seen chips since the 70's/80's when I was a kid and have recently got the boxset and now midway through S2. Can't believe how empty the roads were compared to now.
I was born in 1975 and somewhere around age 3 stumbled on an abandoned bedroom with a tv on a dresser. CHiPs was on and it blew me away. I sat there for the whole episode, with jaw dropped. The show set a standard in an impressionable mind and the bar was set really high. I learned about Los Angeles by watching CHiPs. I had not heard of such a place until then. Eventually by age 4 or 5 The Dukes of Hazzard premiered, and I was primed by previously being a fan of CHiPs and these 2 shows had several similarities. In the mind of a child, the vehicles were the stars of the show. And back then, elaborate action/chase sequences like the ones used in episodes were more of a Hollywood movie thing rather than being a component to a weekly TV show. It was really groundbreaking for a TV show to have a 4 door clunker tumbling and doing a cartwheel down the highway. Emergency never went to those levels of practical stunts with cars being launched 200 yards down a road while screechibg upside-down on it's roof while a jack knifed semi truck skids out of control. CHiPs was state of the art. The characters in that show will never die and the cast will never be forgotten.
Would have been nice if Erik Estrada was at this reunion. It's not the same not seeing Ponch and John together. Their onscreen chemistry was great even though off camera I've read it wasn't. I was five when this show debuted, and I still watch the show. I've been told by the ladies, and family members I look like Erik Estrada, and I'm flattered to say the least. Oh and Brianne a.k.a. Cindy is still as lovely as ever.
CHiPs is the only cop show where nobody died by being shot, and guns stayed in the holster save for 3 times, all by Brodie Greer, once it was implied as he made the motions because he was being filmed from the shoulders up
You've got to be kidding. Pretty much every cop goes thru his career without shooting at someone or getting shot at. The lack of gunplay on the show was far more credible than other shows.
When I was a lil guy I thought this was the coolest show ever. Cops are cool. Motorcycles are cool. Put the two together... you have a show that a kindergartner of 1980 will be hooked on.
This show was and still the best. Especially when one day some girls said omg you look like Ponch. Gave me a great outlook on life. Cast is great and will always be number one. Dean from Jax

I loved this show as a kid. I come from a family of Police Officers and this show solidified my desire to follow in their footsteps. I remember role playing Baker as a boy, riding handlebar to handlebar with a friend. Fast forward 15 years and encountered that same friend.... in Traffic Court. I was a member of the Highway Patrol (helmet in hand) and he was answering for a speeding infraction.

I used to run home from school so I could get home in time to watch CHIP'S, followed by Emergency. I absolutely knew that when I was old enough, that I would either be a CHP officer, or a fireman...I'll retire next year as a paramedic fireman. I tested with both agencies. Fire ultimately was what came first. Those two shows motivated many in my generation to pursue a career in one or the other.
Missing CHiPs cast members: Erik Estrada as Frank Poncherello, Randi Oakes as Bonnie Clark, Tom Reilly as Bobby Nelson, Clarence Gilyard Jr, Tina Gayle. Great memories from an engaging cast of actors of a memorable tv series with interesting stories, wonderful humor and action, and excellent car crash stunts. Cool Alan Silvestri music as well! Thanks!
Erik's and Randi's absence is due to neither wanting to have anything to do with the show or one another. Tom is persona non grata due to his trangression during his time with the show.
That was the 'transgression' I was referring to. I would've hated to be an MGM intern when this got out because I imagine chairs were being thrown and profanities being shouted by the MGM big shots. I also imagine their damage control department going into high gear.
Most people are aware of that, thanks. Erik decline to attend. Randi was supposed to be there but had a last minute family obligation come up. Clarence Gilyard is a drama professor and classes had just started for the semester. We weren't able to find Tina and frankly no one was interested in having Tom Reilly there due to the damage he caused to the show.
Being born in '74, I didn't remember but maybe half the original episodes but seeing it again on MeTV in re-runs brought back a smile of how good this show really was. And how good the very few NBC's that were good in the CHiPS era actually were. 30 Rock did a Larry Wilcox cameo as Liz Lemon's TV crush but it was actually Tina Fey's as well when she was growing up in Philly. I knew Erik had a bad accident on set but I never realized he was that close to death. Wilcox being in the military and having grown up and returned to a cattle ranch in his native state of Wyoming was what made him a tough but humble individual. Lou Wagner and Robert Pine's characters were very good too. The female ensemble led by Randi Oakes and Brianne Leary made the show top-notch. Both having to put up with those guys was quite a feat. One of the best shows on TV and still is.
Dear NewswireLA: my mum rose is from the the u.s now liveing in the United Kingdom and she watch "Chips" all the time and and stills dus i just watched the 35 year cast reunion on UA-cam -is so wonderful to see them all i think there all wonderful actors and i thank them all for all they do to bring all us fans of the show great tv times is the best show ever we love you all lots of love from toney and family in scotland u.k
Great video. All of these cast members look great! I've always liked Brodie Greer and Robert Pine. They always seemed like such nice and down to earth guys.
Two things I loved about _CHiPs_ apart from the cast was that they hardly ever had to draw their revolvers, and, like Mr Linke said, they used their heads to solve problems. • Personally, I don’t know why some of the crooks didn’t have pistols on them; because I’m sure real life was more violent than television. Perhaps it was because of the network censors and what happened to _S.W.A.T._ • Apart from that, I loved that most of the encounters I saw on the show didn’t require weapons yet required problem solving and lots of heart.
this show truly reflected the great times of growing up in the 80.. I was 10 in 1988 and it was truly the best time of Americas history, along with the WWF. .just counldnt ask for anything better, as these memories are profound deep in my heart.

At the time when chips started I was going through a very emotional time I had been going through growth hormone therapy up until 1977 and I had been riding motorcycles since I was 7 and when chips came out that final push to get myself a nice street bike-came to pass and I wanted to thank Eric and Larry and the rest of the cast for putting me on that bike and keeping my faith in people thanks again to all the cast
This tv show is so amazing so legendary, I grown up with this show first run , it’s part of my life , the concept is so cool , the opening theme is so unique and I love the ending when the freeze the shoots and then starts again that’s so unique as well , I am watching it again from season 1 it’s mind blowing, the funniest thing is the fashion and everything seams so fresh ... now all those cara era are collectibles and Levis re launched those cowboys shirts as well , there’s a huge vintage culture here in Adelaide, South Australia like people driving cars and dressing up in 70 clothes man it’s mind blowing how this tv show stand the test of time it’s 42 years gone , over 4 decades and when I watch it I can’t take my eyes out of the screen because every item , every car , every clothing every hairstyle or bike is absolutely stunning beautiful and cool , man this CHiPs tv series is a true Americana document registry of one the greatest era ever ( 50’s and 70’s are the ultimate eras ) Congratulations for the creativity for everything and everyone involved in making it , this show is one of the greatest television legacy in history. Thank you so much ( I am go buying the rest of the seasons 2,3,4 and 5 )
Erik Estrada's first movie role was in "The Cross and the Switchblade"! It also starred Pat Boone as Rev. David Wilkerson. Erik played true-life figure, Nicky Cruz who became a Rev. himself!
& I have a,copy of the movie, also!!/ but got, extra 4-5 mins before & after movie.with Pat Boone interview, real Nicki Cruz and pastor Sonny Arginzony/. ( Oops about spelling) that how,U pernounce it./
I think this is truly an honor & I think i'll enjoy it one day at a time please keep blessing these bunch of wholesome goodness. never too late to make things a tad bid less slavery.God Bless These.
CHiPs probally wouldnt have canceled if John and Erick wouldnt have had the disputes and where on all the shows/seasons, when they where both on there, it was GREAT
I use to watch this show all the time they were reruns at that time since I was born in 79 but I have season 1&2 so far I'm always on the look out for the other seasons
bucky468 Yeah I remember it as a kid in the 80's but then it use to be on the Superstation TBS they had a lot of the old and cool TV shows like Chips, Gilligan's Island Andy Griffith and the Beverly Hillbillies and that was back in the late 80's early 90's
Robert Pine was here in Bremerton, Washington a little over a week ago. He was at one of the local movie theaters taking part in a Q & A session following a screening of his current film 'The Landing'. I unfortunately missed the event.
Huge fan of this series to this day. had full version of both the Original KZ1000-P (still in my garage) and had the BMW R1150RTP in Chips 99. Saw them filming Chips 99 in San Dimas 100ft away from where I worked at the time on the un-opened I-210. Even sent a full on CHP bike to Scotland (my brother was a fan) and to Japan to the CHP club.
One thing I could never understand...If Harlan was the MECHANIC, why was he always wearing a LAB COAT? Was he designing the cycle Rex Smith would use on "Street Hawk?" I thought Frank Fontana from "Murphy Brown" was responsible for that...
Well, Harlan wore the lab coat, because his work area was his lab. In later episodes, he was constructing machinery like a scientist. Harlan was pretty cool. 👍
CHiP's was required watching when I was a kid. I didn't realize it then but one of the reasons I loved this show was because the police always helped people - REALLY helped them, and without always threatening folks with arrest or physical violence. They never shot people up and CHiP's was a show that actually made kids and those in their 20's WANT to become a cop, which today is the one thing NOBODY wants to be anymore because today's police are generally mean spirited people. This issue is a two-way street, but sadly today police are too heavy handed and will go straight into a violent response rather than talk to you. Today's police are much more militarized than ever before and this is the reason law enforcement is the LAST thing most people would consider doing today, and it seems those who DO want to be a cop are people who like hurting others. CHiP's portrayed the police as being genuinely nice people, which, sadly is often not the case anymore :>\
I’m from Brazil.

The characters in that show will never die and the cast will never be forgotten.
so just how many places were you aware of at the hoary age of three, then . . .
That was a great video. I loved watching CHIPS!
I use to love my CHIPS. I was crazy about Jon and Ponch. I cried when Ponch was holding out and also, I really cried when Jon left for good.😭😭😭😭
Would have been nice if Erik Estrada was at this reunion.
Great times back then for good wholesome tv shows
I loved Chips,I was 6 when Chips first aired. My favourite character was Ponch,I thought he was sexy and handsome.
I would've personally liked to see them draw their guns and have a few (bloodless) shoot outs. It's my one small criticism of the show.
Loved this show when I was a kid in the 80s. From south east asia. Dreamt of coming to USA. Regards to my generation mates who watched the series.
When I was a lil guy I thought this was the coolest show ever.
Cops are cool.
Motorcycles are cool.
Put the two together... you have a show that a kindergartner of 1980 will be hooked on.
Great memories, thanks to all who were involved with the show!
Michael Dorn went from this show to Star Trek The Next Generation as Worf!!
I hadn't registered it was him. that's awesome
Yep! Think he was there at STNG for the whole series run.
Officer Worf.
When the credits and your name and face were on screen, we all yelled Grossman!
Thanks for sharing
This show was and still the best. Especially when one day some girls said omg you look like Ponch. Gave me a great outlook on life. Cast is great and will always be number one. Dean from Jax
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO....👍👍🇺🇸

I loved this show as a kid. I come from a family of Police Officers and this show solidified my desire to follow in their footsteps. I remember role playing Baker as a boy, riding handlebar to handlebar with a friend. Fast forward 15 years and encountered that same friend.... in Traffic Court. I was a member of the Highway Patrol (helmet in hand) and he was answering for a speeding infraction.

In this reunion of the cast their are a few members. Thanks to Larry Wilcox for saving Erik Estrada life....
Speaking of Larry Wilcox, prior to CHiPs, he appeared on M*A*S*H as Cpl. Mulligan!!!
It was Tom Reilley's arrest for cocaine that brought an end to CHip"s...glad he wasn't invited.
That was the 'transgression' I was referring to. I would've hated to be an MGM intern when this got out because I imagine chairs were being thrown and profanities being shouted by the MGM big shots. I also imagine their damage control department going into high gear.
Monte Walsh I thought it was Larry Wilcox leaving after season five though it did get another season.
Great job on this, many thanks!
Brianne was in an episode of Match Game as well.
Bruce Penhall was a fantastic speedway rider. World Champ in 81 and 82.
I was born in 1977 & grew up watching this show later in the 80's & early 90's, God Bless This show.
Thank you for all, Chips
Dear NewswireLA:
my mum rose is from the the u.s now liveing in the United Kingdom and she watch "Chips" all the time and and stills dus i just watched the 35 year cast reunion on UA-cam -is so wonderful to see them all i think there all wonderful actors and i thank them all for all they do to bring all us fans of the show great tv times is the best show ever we love you all lots of love from toney and family in scotland u.k
I have the complete series on DVD
Cool
Great video. All of these cast members look great! I've always liked Brodie Greer and Robert Pine. They always seemed like such nice and down to earth guys.
Two things I loved about _CHiPs_ apart from the cast was that they hardly ever had to draw their revolvers, and, like Mr Linke said, they used their heads to solve problems.
•
Personally, I don’t know why some of the crooks didn’t have pistols on them; because I’m sure real life was more violent than television. Perhaps it was because of the network censors and what happened to _S.W.A.T._
•
Apart from that, I loved that most of the encounters I saw on the show didn’t require weapons yet required problem solving and lots of heart.
Enjoyed watch this movie..
this show truly reflected the great times of growing up in the 80.. I was 10 in 1988 and it was truly the best time of Americas history, along with the WWF. .just counldnt ask for anything better, as these memories are profound deep in my heart.
Erik Estrada said he hated motorcyles...can't recall if he said he always did or just because of the accident.
oh my god this show was my childhood. so freakin great ;-)
Useless information: Robert Pine is Chris Pine's dad.
Glad i was born in 1971 and experienced the ever best 80's T.v shows.....
Back when i was a kid seeing the show it self wow thank you
A few years back I got the honour to meet Rick rosner
In person and thanked him for chips!!
I grew up watching the show and always could count it to entertain. I've watched it with my teenage son for many years now and he digs it, too.
BRIANNE LEARY IS STILL SMOKING HOT 35 YEARS LATER!!!!
ed evanko I had a huge crush on her when I was younger
What a great show...love it.

September '77 I was in second grade.
What age is that?

Parabéns a todos os envolvidos neste evento.
I grew up watching this show along with Emergency and Code Red. I'm looking for Code Red on DVD
A top rate interviewer here. Done so well this reunion turned out top rate. 🥇
Mr.Wilcox still looks really well. & Very Handsome! He has the most Handsome Blue Eyes! God Bless to you All!
This tv show is so amazing so legendary, I grown up with this show first run , it’s part of my life , the concept is so cool , the opening theme is so unique and I love the ending when the freeze the shoots and then starts again that’s so unique as well , I am watching it again from season 1 it’s mind blowing, the funniest thing is the fashion and everything seams so fresh ... now all those cara era are collectibles and Levis re launched those cowboys shirts as well , there’s a huge vintage culture here in Adelaide, South Australia like people driving cars and dressing up in 70 clothes man it’s mind blowing how this tv show stand the test of time it’s 42 years gone , over 4 decades and when I watch it I can’t take my eyes out of the screen because every item , every car , every clothing every hairstyle or bike is absolutely stunning beautiful and cool , man this CHiPs tv series is a true Americana document registry of one the greatest era ever ( 50’s and 70’s are the ultimate eras )
Congratulations for the creativity for everything and everyone involved in making it , this show is one of the greatest television legacy in history.
Thank you so much ( I am go buying the rest of the seasons 2,3,4 and 5 )
One of my favorite TV shows of all time
Erik Estrada's first movie role was in "The Cross and the Switchblade"! It also starred Pat Boone as Rev. David Wilkerson. Erik played true-life figure, Nicky Cruz who became a Rev. himself!
My favorite Erik Estrada movie role was LAPD Officer Sergio Duran in the The New Centurions- still one of the best cop movies of all time.
& I have a,copy of the movie, also!!/ but got, extra 4-5 mins before & after movie.with Pat Boone interview, real Nicki Cruz and pastor Sonny Arginzony/. ( Oops about spelling) that how,U pernounce it./
Loved this show in the 80s as a kid. Watching some reruns now on amazon, funny to see how much simpler life looked in the early 80s.
I watched this show when it was on air in 1980 and I was 5 you probably never watched it when it was on air.
bucky468 Yeah I remember it as a kid in the 80's but then it use to be on the Superstation TBS they had a lot of the old and cool TV shows like Chips, Gilligan's Island Andy Griffith and the Beverly Hillbillies and that was back in the late 80's early 90's
I was born in 1978 and remember the show on the air. I also was obsessed with the Dukes Of Hazzard......LOL
Robert Pine was here in Bremerton, Washington a little over a week ago. He was at one of the local movie theaters taking part in a Q & A session following a screening of his current film 'The Landing'. I unfortunately missed the event.
Met Larry Wilcox at the Augusta Futurity Horse Show several years ago, auch a nice and class gentleman. Semper Fi.
I used to watch the Show in the early 80s when I was a kid and loved it!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Never forget the movie of my child hood..
Is it me or is Brianne Leary still hot
yea wow whomever she is
still smoking hot
Yes she is :)
Brianne Leary was and is hot she was my favorite she could cuff me anytime :)

Harlan Arliss was like C.H.P. central L.A.'s version of Radar from M*A*S*H!!!
Great to see them altogether again. Didn't know that Michael Dorn (Worf from TNG) was in it.
Excellent ! Nice To See ! Good Work Larry , Where Was Eric ? Sydney Australia !
I totally agree. Some people have needlessly, and unjustly died. They have seriously lost sight of what they are suppose to be about.
Me too
That time I still wait to watch chips ,not forget that time chips
It,s the best of me
society has changed police are just adapting
Your perception of law enforcement is incorrect. I know from experience. Do a graveyard shift ride along with your local agency to gain some insight.
Great video. Thank you for that.
I’m from Brazil.
What a great memories.
Wish you best of luck.
Great tv series...used to wait in front of tv for them...memoriess...😊
Saludos desde Chile muy buena serie de esa época los 80 forever
Big fan from Brazil, Best police show ever...
