- Ever wondered who sings and how they do it, those jingles you hear on radio?
This is from the PAMS/TM studios in Dallas, Texas, USA. The originals were recorded for WABC Radio, New York. Here you see the recording, for a local personality, Ricky the K.
I was fortunate to spend a lot of time with these people when I was a kid. My father used to write jingles for TM Productions. Great memories for me!
Jim Kirk! (not to be confused with Star Trek) Always liked the "City Song" he sang on for WRKO / Rhythm Of The City.
PAMS is my all-time favorite jingle palace. Everything they've done is top notch.
The singers on this session were: Dan Alexander, Brian Beck, Greg Clancy (Jim Clancy's son), Abbey Holmes and Kay Sharp....all veterans for PAMS/TM. I believe this was recorded in 1997.
Do you know who is the music composer?
@ Frank Gari wrote the original jingles for PAMS. These particular sessions are "re-sings"... meaning new lyrics to existing instrumental tracks. This was, and still is, quite common in the jingle business. These pros do an outstanding job and make it look so easy to the ordinary listener.
@@russelljones1176 -- WHOA! Are you serious??
This is news to me that he was ever associated with PAMS, especially seeing as how
the sound of his own production house jingles in the 1970s really distinguished
themselves from all the other existing production houses of the time combined.
In 1982 in this very same studio at TM in Dallas, I know the faces and the names as I was there. These resigns by Ben Freedman who had the rights for some years. What memories. Gives me goose bumps!
Great jingles for radio and for the greatest format in radio Top Forty.
Fascinating. Just regular people singing incredible jingles!
I find this sort of stuff so interesting… You never really think about the people that thing this little bumper things on the radio or for commercials or whatever… Can you imagine it being your actual job? Like somebody asked me what do you do for a job and you say I sing all of those jingles on the radio… That is so awesome I think that would be a fun job to have
My late sister did that kind of work. She had a beautiful voice.
Sounds like a lot of fun .One of my earliest childhood memory's in Ireland during the 60s and 70s was when they played these snazzy jingle gems on pirate radio , in between the hit records of the day and it wasn't until I was much older that I discovered the original format was by PAMS's of Dallas .
Being in the radio broadcasting biz, I love this !
Great to see this sort of thing. If you have any more I would love to see them!!
A really nice insight into these wonderful pieces of history!
The Seventies and Eighties seem to be the last best days for commercial jingles. The female solos from the Seventies were so beautiful.
...and before the MCI console, we had the Auditronics in there. Johnny Hooper and I personally re-mudded the walls and painted in there around 1980... Whoa. I must be old. :-)
It's fun to "watch radio!"
Classic!!! Thanks so much for posting.
Wow ! Love to have them do a little jingle for our little station here in NZ...
This is with ou a doubt, the best comment I've ever recieved concerning this upload. I listen the BBC Radio 2 and they have a webcam in their studio, so I can watch radio there as well.
Cheers Jeff!
thanks for this. the one ken r put out a few year ago (and charged for) was so high-level; I reallly wanted to see close ups of radio jingles coming out of peoples heads. Guess there aren't many videos like this since everyone there seemed kind of camera shy even through the window
oh wow this sounds like the old KVIL jingle singers... I wonder if it is... I actually LOVED their christmas album when I was a kid.
In order to be accurate, this video is from sessions at the TM location on Regal Row and not from 4141 Office Parkway. You can tell this because the console is a tan MCI JH-528B which is what the TM location had. I owned this console and the brown JH-538C that came out of the 4141 Office Parkway. BTW... I recorded these people many times.
+dbbubba1 Thank you from Canada. I was never there. This video was sent to me by a friend who was. He lives in Dallas like I presume you do. Just said enjoy. They are good and you are lucky to have worked with them. Sorry about the shit weather you had there over Christmas. Regards.
Such a cool process to watch. I've always been a fan of good radio jingles. Frank Gari was an absolute master! Sadly, I think it's becoming a lost art nowadays.
Why don’t they make these anymore? I love them!
Ricky The K (Kaufman) was the producer and wore the Hawaiian shirt.
Great stuff!
@sarahkasapna Actually, the KVIL Christmas Albums were produced by FairWest using many of the same singers. The master reels for them sit on the shelf here.
Thanks so much for this!
Yes. Thanks for remembering!
VERY NICE!
Thank You
i was saying, there work they did for Riverside's KOLA 99.9! remember that if anybodys from Riverside?
wonderful wonderful stuff
The Greatest Team In the World
I was in engineering with Bill Onn and Paul Firminger.
Ever wonder why you sing while standing in church?
@sarahkasapna , The KVIL jingles were done by the Heller Company. Do a search on Hugh Heller and see what you come up with
Ricky the K kicks ass!!! even with his intonation OCD issues!!! Hey google / youtube, how do YOU like the intonation ?? !! someone should make a youtube poop out of this video. hahahahahahahahabahahahahaa... .... BAHAHAHAHAHAHAA
@Chris5277 Thanks for the reply!
Greg Clancy any relation to Jim Clancy, who sang on the originals in the 60's?
The original jingle, BTW, was from a version of PAMS Series 26 that was originally recorded for Detroit station WXYZ.
YES DAD OR BROTHER.
Jim Clancy is Greg's dad.
The jingles sound 60's era. Were the performers staging this to provide an idea about jingle production? Just curious.
ladies im not convinced
Jim Clancy had The Pipes.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
❤❤❤
When was this shot? It's obviously older than the 2007 date it was posted. From the clothes and hairstyles, I'm guessing it's the '80s.
Gosh, how do I get into this? It looks like fun!
All American WABC 77
How many year have they been together doing this?
1980 0:40
Another reason I listen to college radio.
Are you Chris Chivers from CHYM so many years ago?
was Tom Parma and Judy in there anywhere??
When these cuts were sung in the nineties, Tom and Judy were exclusively working for JAM. I'm sure Judy (along with Brian and Dan, seen in this video) sang on original syndicated versions of these cuts.
Are these the studio "c" singers of "solid rock" fame?
No... Of this group, I believe only Abby sang on those. That group was led by the late Chris Kershaw. Most of the original cuts were written by the late Jodie Lyons.
Any idea what year this is?
If I make a version of the same jingles, I can make it a "Kid Version" or a "Chipmunk Version" which would be a good idea.
this sucked
No it didn’t
