The rat in the temple are related to the "white men" in a strange way. When white men brought plague to the region, there was terrible devastation in this entire region. Natives observed that those who drank milk off the container the rats had consumed from, they did not get severe disease. Thus the entire region started visiting the Karni Mata Mandir. Since then Mandir and the rats there got much more adoption amongst the people.
