Leopard 2 Sound - Engine (Motor) start, full throttle (Vollgas), engine (Motor) stop

- Recommendation/Empfohlen:
EN: Highly recommended: Turn up your speakers bass (highest) and, if possible, volume (high) for at least a little bit realistic audio atmosphere of this tank engine.
This movie was taken by me on an "open day" of the German Bundeswehr in Altenstadt, Germany.
love the sound of those turbos!! Leopard 2 is an amazing machine!
Yes, but the engine is not very modern, wärtsiläs engine is 26 liters smaller with the same power 😂
@@TheEsseboy The tank and his engine are nearly 40 years old.
@@jurgenthomas5993 Why replace something that ain't broken? :D
Don't you love the whistling turbo? Ooooooh.
oh jea. that sounds soooooo nice. thats a Song in my ears
Béla Selimi soundgasm.
Well a turbo diesel sounds even better under load, when even more air gets pumped to the engine by the turbo. This one is basically freerevving so the turbo is not so loud. I think it would sound like some kind of Boeing 707 taking off, under load.
This is as loud as the turbos get. You can hear them "redlining" independently of engine RPM. I think they are designed to be rather responsive and won't spool up any higher than what we've heard. A Diesel engine doesn't restrict load with a throttle, the amount of intake air is only limited by the turbos. What changes under load is the amount of fuel that gets injected. So as you apply more power it's mostly the thundering exhaust sound that gets beefier.
i still can hear the TIGER TANK spirit
Same. I could still hear that significant "brrrrrt"
Except that the Tiger was equipped with a gasoline engine ;)
That was a HL230 Maybach
@@cancolak9794 that is a MTU Motor. This company builds engines up to 40000 hp. Runs with every fuel. In Wikipedia, they speak about 15 or 20 hp. But the truth is 40. Uhm, thousand.

Was lucky enough to be within 15 metres of a Leopard 2, going at speed, at Tankfest, Bovington, a few years ago. Can confirm that you don't just hear these Lovely Cats, you EXPERIENCE them. Totally Awesome time!
Yup. You can feel your skeleton ratling aroumd in your body!
I was lucky enough to be the driver of this piece. 😄 Unfortunately, we weren't allowed to drive very often because it was too expensive....

Imagine being a recently drafted Russian conscript sitting in the open hatch of your refurbished T-55 at night in the complete dark and suddenly you hear 4 of these in the distance, coming closer.
Fuck.
T-55? 😅
Used to drive one of those, when I was serving at the Greek Army. Trust me, the sound these things emit is unrecordable.
The feeling of turning them on (and driving them) is unforgettable.
The Abrams' whine is nothing compared to the roar of that turbo-diesel.
listening to this engine is one thing, in my eyes much more impressive is the 'feeling' which you get when near this weapon system. Anyway for tactical reasons -> the more silent, the better.
+JCU2803 Your are absolutely right. The more silent, the better. Even for silent operations and infantry and every soldier. But in case of tanks it is impossible. Okay, it would be possible to make the engine more silent but then you would hear the tracks. So let hear the enemy that something evil is coming ("show of force" and psychological tactics) and they know their tanks have night vision and can see you earlier then you can see them.
Vivalamuh well tanks can be a bit more silent with rubber tracks but they can only be used on light tanks
@@hauptmann_ivan Leopard 2.... Has rubber tracks :D

I love the sound of turbos in the morning
It sounds soooooooooo awesome
That whistle 👍👍
I want that sound in Armored Warfare :O
+WillyWanker I too
They did add new engine sounds. But somehow all main battle tanks are using gas turbine sound effects, which is really getting on my nerves when I hear a T-90 with gas turbines.
+zchen27 or a Leopard
They should record all real tank sounds and then upt them in the game many game producers do so. It would be awesome as fuck...
It is also somewhat pricey since you do need to cover cost of fuel used and you are essentially borrowing military hardware. It is easier to do with cars than military gear.
"Put a Tiger in your tank "

By the way, after starting the engine at 0:44, that sounds to me like like a Leopard "roar". Maybe I am alone with that so I have to ask you....

Turbo Diesels are the best tank engines you can have and you can't tell me otherwise.
That engine does sound secksy.

In my humble opinion i think the Leo 2 is the best tank ever, but the sound of Leo 1 is much better. :-) But maybe i am coloured by the fact that i was a loader / gunner on Leo 1 :-)

It might be louder than the turbine Abrams, but the outrageous fuel consumption and enormous heat signature are the Abrams' weaknesses.
Who knows.Would be nice find to find out. ;)
Outrageous? have you ever seen the Abrams going on road marches? plus America has the best logistics system by far and at least the Abrams can take more of a hit in pretty much any respect in comparison to the leopard not to mention the leopard was designed from the start with lower grade composites when compared to the challenger and Abrams- plus America has had the Abrams in service for quite some time and haven't ran into any problems
@@aidanlua8462 usa fanboy
At least turbine’s can use more then one type fuel
@@panzerkampfwagenviiimaus3976 I'm fairly certain this could run on JP5 like the Humvee can. Perhaps I'm prejudiced because an Abrams' exhaust once melted the cover of our platoon GP tent strapped to the front of one of our M113's. Tankers got us attached engineers killed every time by OPFOR.
A Leopard 2 is just a modern Tiger tank change my mind
Tiger suffered from bad overall quality and reliability. Leopard 2 is pretty much the opposite of that.
@Jeff Boomhauer "The tiger 1 didn't suffer from any problems"

Why listen to Supras, GTRs, RX7s, turbos when we have Leopard 2 turbo

that turbo made me wet...
Yeah, the whistle is cool but has anyone ever heard the Abrams charge it's death Ray (start up)?
Yeah, Abrams sounds like a dishwasher.
Finest heavy Battle tank in the world
Completly superior to the M1 Abrams
Yeah because it's been used extensively in combat and upgraded accordingly. Dumbass.
Least it doesnt use jet fuel as its prefered fuel choice, or toxic depleted uranium armor.
+Lucas Dement Got me there bud
+Lucas Dement Abrams engine's sound more silent.
Quiet but it sucks very badly in efficiency and durability has the largest fuel tank 500 gallons other tanks only need 300 gallons and travel the same also being on standby the Abrams uses as much fuel as top speed

Porsche engines sounds good even in tanks
I have a 3 meter sewer pipe as a subwoofer tuned to 18Hz. Turned it to max and I think that engine did not sound like that.
But I think you came close to the original sound, deep enough yes, but not loud enough. When I was an infantry soldier, we heared the Leos from far away but we could not say from where they exactly came. Bad if they are your enemies. But that is like subwoofers work. What you can't unfortunately see in this this video is that everbodys clothes, jackets, shirts in range of 25 meters were flapping to the frequency of that engine, ecxept of the uniforms because they are sitting tight. But that flapping were impressive. Many felt the "engine" in their lunges.

Louder than a M1A2 Turbine. Probably not as loud as the M1A3 1600hp diesel
+Ckc dillpickle bruh thats the turbo you're hearing
+Jeroen Would the turbo sound like a higher pitched whine in real life? Just take a VGT equipped diesel (not straightpiped, as i never had the chance to hear a straightpiped VGT) as an example. The tank turbo sounds like some kind of broken ball bearing with my headphones.
+TeraVolt yes, its a small turbine blade spinning extremely fast. which makes a whistle
