When I worked at a wood burning power plant I had to buy a large set of tools. Everyone had to do it. The recommendation was get the cheap Harbor Freight tools to cover the list. But then update to better tools over time. One nice thing about having a duplicate cheap tool is that if you have to sacrifice or modify the tool it isn't as expensive.
I, like you and others have to watch how much money goes out. I have a family of five that I created go bags for. I went cheap at first to get bags in two vehicles, just so we had something in case it was needed. Since then, I went middle of the road in terms of gear and price simply because I set five bags up. The bags are set up 80% the same , and the remaining 20% is person specific. Love your videos and we learn a lot. Got some books too.
Hello from Australia. In my area, we have a lot of blackouts, especially in summer. I use my butane camp stove inside at these times. I simply leave the window open, even in winter. Have not had a problem so far. Thank you.
Great video (as always). FWIW, the small pocket on the front of the canteen cover was originally designed to hold a bottle of USGI water purification tablets. That way, you always had some with you even if you had to drop your ruck.
Thank you JR, for thinking of us on a strict budget!!! I appreciate ALL your videos, especially the ones that are budget friendly. Have a wonderful day!!!! God Bless!!!🙏❤️🙏
As parents who raised our children on camping vacations, we’ve all heard the midnight “Daddy Potty!” calls.🤣 Love the content, and the humor, in your videos JR!😁
I would say rechargeable handwarmers over the zippo no smell doubles as a battery bank and can be turned on and off when needed. I also use the gas one butane/propane stove so its dual fuel.
I'd say both because while you need lighter fluid for the Zippo, rechargeable ones will need frequent charging. My experience with them so far suggests a fully charged one won't run for nearly as long as a Zippo hand warmer.
Been watching your videos for a while now (subscribed)... Trying to keep myself up to date on new technology, information and techniques. I really appreciate you're down to earth take on things and your advice for those of us trying to learn about preparing . I retired from the US army infantry after 22 years of service in 1995, and find your channel(s) to be a valuable resource in learning how to be ready for whatever is tossed our way. Thank You 👍👍
those butane burners are great, I used one for a few months when my stove was down, i cooked breakfast and diner everyday and would get about 1 week per can, they last so much longer than those little green propane bottles. the cheapest place to get them are from Korean Grocery stores.
Evening JR. Good video. I have a duel fuel stove (butane and propane) which are not that much more in cost than just the butane alone stoves. There are some good quality gear out there that are very budget friendly, but there are some items that are just cheap in quality too. I agree, you don't have break the bank to be prepared.
2:09 - you can also use them with bio-ethanol for indoor use, if you team one up with a TRANGIA cook set they are very good indoor and out. The TRANGIA is a bit too bulky (although very light) for a BoB or hiking but ok for car camping
Good to see you again, JR! Love my Spyderco sharpener - I've had mine since the "eighties!!" LOL I've got all of those other items covered, too - I liked the Energizer lantern so much I bought a *second( one. But it looks more like the Streamlight than your version. Great items and advice - thanks for the video, and I'd like to wish you & your family Merry Christmas!!
Thank JR. I wish we could get the sawyer minis cheap here in the uk. Last time I looked on amazon they were £40 British! Not sure what that is in $, but it’s expensive all the same
Glad to hear you are/were a fellow teacher! Great video! I have a Zippo hand warmer at it rocks!! Our cleaning pools in the winter is a little chilly sometimes! I also picked up some rechargeable ones, they are nice as well.
Have you tried the Mora knife that's also a wood chisel? The blade is thicker than the regular Mora with a chisel end that's wicked sharp. Everything that you mentioned today I have. What I haven't heard anyone talk about is what's going to be available and at what price should there be tariffs in 2025. Today's purchase was a second rice cooker. I probably have 250 pounds of rice in mylar bags and a spare $20 rice cooker is nice thing to have on hand. Two days ago my furnace quit. After tinkered around for a few minutes I found that the ignitor was bad. That's the most common part that goes out and I had a spare. I ordered another today from Amazon for $17. Every prepper should take the time and watch some furnace repair videos so they can fix them as needed. Keep up the good work, love your videos.
Have you tried the Icon knife from Harbor Freight. I have been hearing about them for a while. I was in Harbor Freight a few days ago and they had one. I bought it and have never regretted buying it.
While I LOVE moras (been using them for last ten or so years as part of EDC), if my life was at stake, good bushcraft/all round knife would still be my choice (and yes, those can and will be pricey but in most cases you get what you pay for). when it comes to saws, i prefer silkys ;those are top3 in the world for a reason, and im unsure how the cutting with "hand chainsaw chain" even works, since those chains are made to cut in only one direction... rest of the list i totally agree with :)

Cygnett FreePlay - Solar Charging Wireless Speaker + 8K Power Bank ... good item. very clear sound .

10:05 "Unless you like a concussion or something like that" JR wants you to be safe but is also is not here to judge your lifestyle. 😂
Yep, I also thought that was funny but true :)
You're my favorite prepper channel. The humor is always a pleasant surprise. 😄" Daddy potty"🤣🤣🤣

The pocket chainsaw also makes a lot less noise than an ax.
Good if your just cutting limbs apart, but the axe can split the wood up fine to make kindling.

Been extremely happy with my Nedfoss knife! Perfect handle size for female hands. Middle of the road price, very durable.

Here in Norway you are almost always close (1 hour walk) from a water, river with fish or the ocean, so some kind of fishing gear is fantastic!

Great ideas.
I bought a Baufang (sp) radio but I haven’t heard a voice coming out of it yet! Can you do a simple video on operation for an ole lady! TY!!!

Thank you so much!
ive heard excellent things about the harbor freight hatchet
Daddy, potty! Lol.....love it! I have 6 kids. Before you said it, I thought exactly that.
Harbor Freight hatchet under $15 for a cheap but very usable option
