- Online learning or in person DOBRO CAMP - there are so many ways to learn! Here's a few resources to learn dobro at a great summer music camp or with year-round online classes. This is a very small sample of what's out there for resonator guitarists, so please add any of your favorites below in the comments. I forgot to mention the Kaufman Camp and Swannanoa Gathering, which are both awesome. Really any time spent on your instrument is worth it, but it sure does make it more fun with friends. Links below to the camps I mentioned and some more that I didn't, just to get you started!
I'll post more songs from the Woodshed once my fingers defrost!

i don't know if you'll get this Abbie but awhile back when I first started playing I was asking your advice about what Dobro I should get and that I was thinking about buying a cheaper Reso and replacing the cone with a Beard. I ended up just buying a square neck Beard I played for about 2 months and I truly sucked. I compared it to a howler monkey. I couldn't see paying as much as I did for that reso and not being able to play it. So I sent it back. However I couldn't get playing Dobro out of my mind and I bought a very cheap Rouge and I couldn't put it down. After about 6 or 7 months I have gotten pretty decent at it. The whole point to all of this is that I am signed up for the 2024 Nashville camp. I'm looking forward to seeeing you and people of like mind.
See you there friend! :) glad you stuck with it
I don't have any teachers around me play steel guitar and play gospel but the group I play for had open Mic night and I brought my dobro one night and the crowd love it on guy ask how long I'd been playing I told him 45 min but I just put it aside would love to play better I'm just 1hr 30 min from Nashville would love to do some classes love your channel
awesome Terry! Keep it up! :)
Billy Cardine is a fab teacher! Great Canadian camp that teaches Dobro is Nimblefingers in Sorrento, BC.
absolutely!
Troy Brenningmeyer is a great source for Dobro. Many videos and instructions on all styles. Looking forward to Nashville Dobro Camp in June, it will be my first Dobro Camp.
Oh my gosh YES!! Troy is great! A ton of info and lessons here on UA-cam, I should have mentioned him! Looking forward to seeing you in person Bob!
Hi Abbie, just watched your dobro camps and online learning post. I am keen to learn more about dobro playing. I have a National Resophonic guitar and play one of my acoustic guitars with a nut lifter. We spoke via email recently in connection with your song “too soon” which I think is great. I play it on zoom folk clubs here in York, England. I would like to improve on lap style/ dobro guitar. Could you please let me know how much you charge foe zoom lessons.
Happy days, Peter.
Totally! shoot me an email through my site?
Hi Abbie, how much do you charge for online zoom lessons?

You want to know me experience. I was getting to get know the guitar, then I cut my left hand off, the surgeon put it back on did a good job but I can't get my hand to work right around the frat board. I may however be able to learn the dobro. So that is where I'm at.
oh my goodness, John, I'm sorry to hear it! But I'm also so glad you found dobro because you don't need as much fine dexterity for it on the left hand. hang in there, man
@@AbbieGardnerdobrosinger thanks I will never give up.
