I felt sure, by the way you two were describing your favourite dish, that Lauren Montelbano had won, however I can see the similarities in Gregory Leon's creation, so it made sense. If you want to know what this viewer thought of your competition, I can tell you, as one who could neither taste the food nor sense the aromas, I was definitely intrigued with Tarik Moody's creation. I love anything deep fried, and my second cullinary preference is unique spice infusion. That, and the entire black bowl experience made me give Tarik the winning spot. So, congratulations! Chef Gregory knows his business, and what I want to say about his creation is that I felt the "Wow!" factor when I saw the presentation as it was in the kitchen... however in my view the grated cheese was a mistake. It took the appearance of the dish down a couple of notches and for what benefit? Finally, Lauren Montelbano and I are so different, as I love to cook, host dinner parties, and post hundreds of photos of my creations...but I hardly ever eat vegetables or even fruit for that matter. If I was given the ingredients she chose, I would stare at them wondering to myself... "What do I do now?" Having said that, I did probably get the most appreciation for actual taste from watching her create the dish, and especially the vinaigrette. I think the plates she chose were wrong in shape and colour, and that her dish would have been more attractive with less quantity, and perhaps in one of those white bowls with the large outer rim. Her base could have surrounded the main ingredients for an eye-catching presentation in that way, as I see it. Of course, it's so easy for me and others to judge from afar, but what I describe to you now is what I felt during the episode...which I enjoyed very much.
Vegetarian restaurants are rare in WI. We found a Veg. Indian place in Appleton recently, & that's the only one I know of. It's cool that WI Foodie is featuring a Veg. caterer.
Such a great showcase of the farmers market wisconsin food in general.
