    I had that exact same lawn mower. The TB 110. It started on the first pull almost every time. I had used it on 3-4 lawns for about 4 years, and the only thing that failed was a spring that controlled the engine speed. It was plenty powerful AND it was very light weight to lift in and out of the truck. I really loved this lawn mower.
    My new mower is a Makita 36v now. Heavy, but super quiet.

    i have a generator that would start fairly well in warm weather , but in cold weather it would sometimes take nearly 100 pulls , no exaggeration . in really cold weather i'd have to bring it inside to warm , or it wouldn't start at all . was using it to work on a house w/no electrical hookup , and i'd be worn out by the time i got it started each morning . years later , vids like yours taught me that , unlike flatheads , you have to check valve clearance on ohv engines regularly . starts like a dream now . my thanks to all who produce these helpful vids , and to all who provide helpful comments and suggestions .

    Hi I just wanted to add to the troubleshooting for multiple pulls to start the mower. I did everything you suggested and replaced the carb. I finally realized the auto-choke arm bracket (not the linkage) was bent and causing the linkage to get caught up, very suttle. Starts on the first pull now. Thank you for your video. it helped me isolate the not so obvious issue.

    My hard to start one was the OLD Snapper hand mower with the reverse and the vacuum choke. The only thing I knew to do was keep it spinning to keep the choke open when hot. HJad the strange recoil that pulled straight up instead of sideways. Once I got the hang of keeping the engine spinning it'd start with not a whole lot of trouble, IF you were able to keep it spinning. Good fix and Blessings

    4:22 Great job, Home Garage! :) I place the front of the mower on a block of wood, turning the blade by hand forward (and backward) until TDC (or the farthest said valve will move on a worn engine) to adjust each valve. Typically set the intake two-thousandths tighter and exhaust two-thousandths looser to future-proof the mower engine a few more years without another adjustment.

After I cleaned the carburetor it Improved a little bit it started but soon as I turn it off and pulled a hundred times 😂 nothing happened and it only would start when I sprayed starter fluid and it would run just fine till I shut it off and pull another hundred time lol

    I had a mower that was hard to start given to me for that very reason. A new plug, all fixed. I gave it to a neighbour, as I already had a big yard push mower that had a 3 foot cutiing width deck, which was great to use, & took only a few minutes to mow my back yard where I was at the time. That mower also found a new home with a friend who often borrowed it.

When you split a repair into 2 videos, I sometimes have a hard time finding the 2nd one. Maybe if you numbered them and called the first repair 34 and the 2nd repair 34.1 (as an example), it would be easier.

    Yes I have had a mower that was hard or would not start. I loaned my almost new mower to a friend to mow his lawn. I did not think i would have to ask it to be returned after 8 months. Then it would not start. My neighbor saw me pulling and pulling and came over and took the mower to his house. He brought it back in an hour and it started and ran perfectly. He said their was a lot of water in the tank and cleaned the carb. I guess the borrower kept my mower outside which I never did. So I have learned a good lesson. My dads 20 year old Masport mower would require at least 8 big and hard pulls to start, and even after taking it to service, nothing really changed. Then after a couple more years after its service, it would become impossible to start. Then at first we thought of replacing the spark plug with a new one so we did. Then we also did a oil change and filled it up to where it was supposed to be. Then the next time we took the mower out of the shed, the oil level was low for some reason and still would not start again so we checked the spark plug and it was full of so much oil and carbon. Then we also attempted to clean it, but we did not really have any luck with it. So from the oil also disappearing to god knows where, we decided to take it to the service. Then after a couple days, the service people told us that the pistons are worn off and the amount of oil the mower is going through is just insane. Then they also asked us if they wanted us to replace the piston on it, but they said it would cost us around $600 AUD, so we just said no to it because you can literally get a brand new mower for that same price. Then after that, we just invested into a Honda mower.

    I had a Honda mower that would take about 5 or 6 pulls before it would start. Right on top of the recoil was a sticker saying “ easy start” …huh…ya right. I brought it back to the dealer and they said they couldn’t find the problem either, but did joke with me that it did eventually start. I paid close to $500 for that mower back in 2010 and I hated it. I ended up selling the mower and made sure I told the buyer that it was hard to start, but he didn’t care cause mine had a throttle control and that was what he wanted.

    • @HomeGaragechannel
      @HomeGaragechannel  9 місяців тому

      Sure, the fuel shut off is always difficult to turn, otherwise it could turn itself closed after prolonged running. And about the slow down issue, have you done any sort of maintenance on the engine since you've owned it? A clogged air filter, and dull blade could be the cause. The same can happen if the grass is very tall and the blade is on Upside down.

    • @annedavies662

      Hi thanks for the reply. It is so hard to turn it on and off, it's like you would need a wrench. How do I remove it to replace it with a new one and clean the gas line at the same time. I changed the gas in the tank and added a stablilizer as well. Oil is fine, Filter is clean as well. New spark plug as well. It does start and run, but slows down. I have a feeling it is the off and on valve. It may be gummed up, so I thought I would just replace it with a new one. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks ever so much Annie

    Does anyone use "Leak-down" testers ???? you lock the mtr on TDC, install tester, follow instructions [after removing air filter and dipstick]. Listen for air coming out of dipstick tube, or muffler or carb to determine source of leakage. Then either effect repairs or make est for cust approval/rejection.

    but didnt you ruin 15% of engine power if you by fiddling with valves ruined compression from 150 to 130? 15% less power is huge difference,
    so this mower is after your "fixing" 15% weaker.i would much rather have to pull start rope 2 time more then have 15% weaker mower.
